This is the most special video you ever made. To see you so enthusiastic together with your friend and that exciting car makes it so much more special. Don't take me wrong. All your videos and reviews are the best in class, and the proof for that is that allower the internet /youtube almost everybody is trying to imitate you. But this video shows another part of you, and I like it so very much. Like many other car lovers and enthusiasts, I would like to see more videos like this, with older special and ikon cars. Many THANK YOU for this one!
Haha I really enjoyed that. It was the 55 engine that caused me to become an AMG fan. You caught up so quickly to that motorbike when you joined the autobahn haha. Thomas your reaction was RU-vid gold haha 😂
This is a really special vehicle, I hope the owner really enjoys it. There is nothing better to me than a fast estate, the more unassuming the outside the better. Thanks Thomas and team for another great review, would definitely love to see more videos like this!
What a beast. This is one of my favourite older cars of Mercedes-Benz. Great review, Thomas. If you want to, please review more older Mercedes-Benz cars.
Loved this video. Your production quality makes it fun to watch so please, bring more vintage Mercedes reviews. The Bi-Xenons and headlight design language of this era are much more emotional than today's commodified LED set up. In later years the Bi-Xeon projectors physically rotated with the steering wheel. Combined with upgraded new xenons and [LED bulbs for the incandescents], a very effective beam pattern for driving is achieved. For one thing there are actual fog lights. Today to my eternal frustration, fog lights are extinct. I ask you to demonstrate driving in the rain at night the need for fog lights that have disappeared in today's Mercedes. Yet some new cars like the VW GTI and Teslas have them. It makes no sense.
Loved it Thomas. These old MBs really powerhouses and like you said, awesome for the money if you buy a good one. They can be a money pit as well. Enjoyed this and please bring in more retro cars for your channel.
These always remind me of why I used to like German cars. Such a great car. Miss these days when it was about driving and not screen size/mood lighting. What a great sounding engine
This C55K sounds like a stock C55 which is perfect for going sleeper mode. Straight pipe would free up more horsepower but the sound advertises too much.
This W203 facelift C Class was the best C Class Mercedes ever made. So robust and such high quality and impeccable attention to detail. Now the C Class is cheaply made, feels brittle and weak and has terrible engines. This C Class was back when Mercedes was still real Mercedes. Now they're a shell of their former selves. My dad has a 2005 C220 cdi with 330,000 kms on. It has no rattles and all the interior and exterior bits looks as new. I've seen the new W204 and W205 C Class with peeling interior bits and so much rattles. The new W206 has enough hard plastic to make a Kia Picanto proud. This generation of Mercedes (particularly the W211 E55 AMG) is what made me such a fan of the brand. Now, they're just a big disappointment. They don't make them like this anymore.
cheers! oh that d be lovely. Enjoy these episodes also: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-eTLEUHFQ74E.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-I3OhqwH9AVA.html
Super nice! Thanks Thomas. Are you ever going to review the latest Jaguar F-pace SVR? I recall that you mentioned that at one time you worked for Jaguar and still liked their vehicles…
I would like to know how the SL55 engine off a R230 could be swapped into the w203 chasis although they both use very different brake system, one has the SBC brake system the other doesn’t
Very nice I have the same minus the supercharger and therefore only 390hp haha. Recommend the owner replaces exhaust tips with 125mm amg ones as it really suits the estate rear end and was actually offered from factory so not aftermarket. It is a fantastic all rounder. Good for DD and also for cross continental road trips especially if you downsize to 17" wheels for additional comfort (the 6 pot front brakes fit fine)
Good morning Exactly this was the squaring of the circle. But Ralf ( the owner of RaceCarTec garage, the builder ) got the approval and release for it from the TÜV Harald ( owner of the 570 hp sleeper )
This version of the S203 just puts into perspective how much power is available in modern day cars. At 300 hp nobody bats an eyelid when in the near past it was really rare to have so much. As for the design, the best C-klasse have been w201 and w204 with the latter being the epitome of Mercedes. It still looks classy, elegant and stylish which can't be said about the modern versions with those weird curvatures on the shapes of the cars.
A very interesting car and a very good review as always! Although in my point of view such cars are a little bit pointless these days. The servicing of an old car and the fuel consumption (especially nowadays) doesn't make it very liable for a daily driver and there are much more interesting cars for 45K that the owner put into it... But for fun, why not 🙂
Great fun seeing this sleeper project 👍 More like this would be awesome, maybe also side by side comparisons from older more affordable care to the newer equivalent
MORE THOMAS please ? anyway subscribed ! Yes, Thomas! This is what we need - more of these older gems through the eyes of the modern standards. Please clone yourself and put up more videos!
Test driving some old glory is a pretty cool "format", with your experience Thomas, it's really enjoyable and can inspire some of us, lookin for a good sleeper or some underrated affordable powerhouse 👍
Kleemann offered the same mod. Added an Autorotor supercharger to the 5.4 engine, making 515 to the wheels. It was a rocket. He needs to get a Torsen in the rear end to put it down . It ran 11.8 in qtr mile. The states never got the estate model .
A great review of the C55. Looks like a lot of fun. Your friend is very lucky indeed. Wonderful to see older cars on your channel. I prefer the 2006 styling as a problem today is that many manufacturers lower the roof line and reduce glass area. Not good for visibility, head room and space. Although it could be that more modern cars might be safer in a crash.
Please review more youngtimers, it’s so interesting to compare the driving experience from 20 years ago to the modern cars. However, I prefer to see reviews of original cars rather than heavily modified cars. The original car is what MB invented and built at that point in time, and that is what I find so appealing.
If you're a car enthusiast and you're life is all about spending money on a car then yes , buy it ,if you're like me and ,realised that the car became a money pit and that you can go travel and enjoy life instead of investing money in a car ,then don't buy it 😂 Nice clip mate 👍
I know what I’m about to ask concerns another variant of the W203-generation C-class - the C30 CDI AMG, not the C55 - but why wasn’t the C30 CDI AMG built in right-hand-drive, only in left-hand-drive?
Holy moly, Thomas...! This video REALLY took me back in time... Back in the early 2000s, I was working for Mercedes UK and we had a 'corporate day out' testing a range of MB products at the Mira test track in Warwickshire, UK. My most memorable recollection was tail-sliding the supercharged-V6 C32 AMG for 3 continuous rotations of the wet-track handling circle...! What a beautifully balanced chassis that car had... 😉
Why put inferior engine in. M113k swap is a much better more torquey engine and so easy to tune to 600hp stage 1. 700hp stage 2. Also much more durable than m156 with head bolt issues
Like everyone else - loved this video. I am a retired Mercedes Benz mechanic. Back in my day w116 6.9 was the beast. Any chance of you getting your hands on one ? I would love to see what you think of them ?
@@autogefuehl Amazing, thank you! Must have missed that upload somehow. Appreciate you guys taking the time to answers us, and of course your videos in general 👌🏼
