Road King special one of best Harley Davidson bikes Harley ever made. It can be used for anything. Long trips , short trips , around the city and in the city. Being able to have bike like this without the heavy front fairing is plus for me. But as all Harley bikes. There is some work and money spend need to be put on this bike. I remember first time I tested this bike was in 2017. Bout after that couple of different Harley bikes but ended up bought Road king special 2021 end of last year and I feel I finally got the right bike for my needs.
I ride a 2019 road king standard and I decided one day to take the windshield off just for kicks cause I remember riding my Honda that way all the time. Used to do 75 miles an hour on the freeway without a windshield and never thought much of it. Then I took this road king out tried to do 65 miles an hour and I thought my legs were gonna fly out from underneath me? How in the world did I ever do this before. I I immediately went home and put the windshield back on.
LOL! yep, now that I've been riding with fairings for a while, I can't drive without wind protection unless it's a short ride. For these RKS though, the wind splitter fairing is pretty awesome and doesn't kill the look of the bike
My 2020 Road King is a great touring bike and that's what it is used for. My favorite bike for riding around locally, visiting friends and just having a good time is my 2003 Heritage. The King is more powerful, smoother and better suited for carrying a bunch of stuff on a long ride but the Heritage is just more fun.
Thanks for your insight on both bikes! Is your 2020 RK with the 107 engine? If so, do you feel like it could use more power, or are you happy the way it is? they had a standard RK on the demo truck but didn't ride that one to compare the difference. I did ride the Heritage and it felt very similar to my Slim (which I love)
@@RunCMDmoto I have the 107 and am not considering an upgrade at this time. I did have a stage 1 done to the Heritage at the time of purchase. The RK is plenty powerful for this old man (LOL). I just want to get on it and do a long trip. Once that is done I'll make my decision on whether to upgrade.
Not sure about that for me anyway got 22 road king special. I ride in town highway great for both I love it I did have to put the Holins screaming eagle shocks. 100 % worth every cent I can rip it threw corners now. No way Abel to ride it like that with stock suspension.
Yes I get it. The way I see it, the road king special already comes with everything I would upgrade on my Softail, so when I calculate the cost of what I’ve spent so far (over $3-4k) on upgrades, I’m reaching that territory anyways.
I have a 21 slim in billiard red that I turned into a bonified bagger with hogworkz colormatched bags. And a set of bassasni pro street turn outs on it. I have a video series about it. Demo rode a rks, being 6'4" I felt cramped on it.
That’s awesome, just checked out your Slimglide series and subscribed. Will be looking for the final product! So in the RKS you really felt more cramped than the Slim?
The title of the video may be confusing. I have typically prefered softails over the touring frame because they are lighter and felt easier to maneuver but the RKS is super easy to maneuver hence why I’m “rethinking Softails.”
A new Soft Tail has physically smaller frame, and a visibly shorter length gas tank than my 2002 FSXTDI. I don't like the new bikes. In 2002, the FXSTDI frame is 2 cm bigger than the standard soft tail and fat boy. My Deuce is visibly bigger, sitting next to a newer soft tail. My twin cam was the final year that Harley built Timken bearing engines. I have no crank run out to concern myself about upgrading to an S&S gear kit.
I felt that way too. I bought a 2016 heritage softail with 9k miles on it over a new heritage. The new ones aren’t the same. Supposed to be better but that’s a matter of opinion. The old version softials…2017 and older….feel bigger than the new ones. I felt cramped on a new heritage but my 2016 is perfect 👍. The new ones also didn’t have that sit down IN the bike feeling like the older ones do. Plus I got my mint condition 16 heritage with 9k miles for 11k instead of 26k 😂
Awesome! I actually test drove a 2022 Heritage the day before this and I really wasn't all that impressed. It felt just like my Softail slim with just bags, wider seat, and a windshield. The RKS felt like a completely different monster
Both power delivery and shifting were super smooth. Felt more planted at the higher speeds and at lower speeds, it almost felt lighter to handle and more stable than my Slim. Didn’t get this same feeling with the Street Glide
@@RunCMDmoto Thank you for the feedback. Helpful. Sounds great. I wonder if the standard Road King is the same or similar? FYI..I am in Houston. Both Slim and RKS price is very high. Wonder if you would get a similar experience from a Goldwing?
@@dry509 the thing with the standard road king is that I believe it comes with the 107 engine instead of the 114, and although that engine is very capable (i have it in my Slim), the road king is a lot heavier, so it would feel a bit more sluggish than the special. But yeah, I heard dealers are getting greedy and marking up way over MSRP, so you’d get much better value from a Goldwing (never riden one) or even a BMW.
Absolutely! have almost 10 additional minutes of me talking about the bike while riding, but the audio was horrible, so had to cut it out. Now I know for the next vid

Hi! It's called a Harley demo truck, which is not even tied to the dealer and travels the country for this specific reason... to get as many people to ride the new harleys whether they are in the market or not. Maybe you don't have this in your region, so now you know! Thanks for watching man
