@@kecym.4808 Years ago, I learned something at 16 that I could have learned at 6...that's "blending" or "smudging". Once I learned that in my high school painting class I must have did 10 of those realistic drawings in a two day span. My advice....START OVER.....if you're 18+, you can go to a community college and sign up for classes as a non degree seeking student. The classes you need to focus on are Drawing 1, Drawing 2, Painting 1, Painting 2, art history and humanities 1, humanities 2. Those seven classes will put you in the receptive mode to LEARN as if you were an adept art student during the Renaissance. It's important to LOVE art and STUDY art if you want to be great at it over the course of your lifetime. These classes are also important as you will learn the fundamentals and basics from which all "styles" emerge from. You can take a class a year or 3 a year, no need to rush it. I would also recommend you watch the Draftsmen podcast with Marshall Vandruff and Stan Proko. There are books they repeat over and over again, get those books. Real artist, who take this seriously, have massive instructional libraries. As a new art student, with a new directive, you're going to read and do all the activities laid out in these books... several times. Now, to actually improve, you'll have to identity what you're weak at or don't know how to do...learn it via course/video/book and do the drill method of drawing/painting 50-100-500 of that body part. In my bag, I always have my drawing/bristol board pad for completed drawings and a separate sketchpad for drill work I'm improving on. Expose yourself to this craft, it's many methodologies and be a sponge. At the same time, be an active artist who completes finished works in a dillegent, structured way. You will improve.

I think it's interesting to see that so many people started out drawing stuff from Dragonball and developed an interest in art because of shows and manga like that. This really hammers home that "don't draw X" is simply BS.
@mydarling3272
@mydarling3272 2 года назад
Is not bs, if you really want to learn to draw, you will have to start with the basics like every outstanding artist already did. You need to practice the fundamentals to understand the 3d space and perspective, and you will need to learn anatomy if you are going to focus on figure drawing. Animes are a huge simplification of all that but those anime masters understand what they are doing because the studied it. Yes, you can draw whatever you want, also it depends on what are your goals in this discipline, the path is very different for each person but the steps are the same.
@R83145
@R83145 2 года назад

...but the thing nobody talks about is that they either went from stickman to realism or stickman to anime scenes from the tv.... I know it's lots and lots of work and it looks good but why aren't appreciated the artists who also make a drawing souly out of their head with the use of refferences and everything... because yes, being able to draw a portrait perfectly it's nice, but what about all the artists who draw backgrounds for a living, or the ones who make insanely detailed anime characters in different poses, not just the poses u can get if you pause the anime...are...are there no such artists like that? Because that's certainly what I aspire to become :( Why is the majority of impressive art growth just realism... I used to do realism then I first started drawing too, and I say from experience, it takes time and practice and skill, but it's one of the most common thing you'll see an artist is able to do in their first few years of learning how to draw because it's not that complicated to try to recreate a picture...it only requires a good sketch, and good coloring technique... and lots of time.

It's so strange seeing so many of these artists saying their teachers told them they should quit. I'm not an art teacher but I always try to encourage my students to keep going. For kiddos that aren't as far along in their artistic journey, I point out things I like and little things that could be improved and try to show them how they can do it (Placing the eyes, shading, little adjustments). For my kiddos who are further along in their artistic journey I try to give them more pointers on what they can do to improve. I had one little girl who loves to draw, she loves showing me her work and I always praise her with compliments and just pointing out little things that could be improved, one time I told her that I think she's getting a little stuck in her style, it looks like it's the same type of character which there's nothing wrong with that but I feel like there are things she wants to get better at, so I asked her what was something she wanted to improve in her art, she said the legs and the arms, so I told her to take that and run with it, watch tutorials, experiment, look at other artists she enjoys and see what they do. She came back a week later and showed me her new piece with different spaced out legs, I told her it was fantastic and I was really proud of her. I show my students old art I did just a few years ago and how bad it looked and then show them my new stuff, they actually like it when I reward them with watching a time lapse of my pieces. Telling kids, or anyone for that matter that they should stop doing something because they're bad at it is so damaging, don't do that to people, let them learn, let them improve, and support them. That's what this world needs more of.

I didn't stop, and that was when I tried improving my art to prove him wrong. Couple years went by, I ask him if it's OK if I do commissions and asked for advice on what my prices should be. I saw a huge bump in art progress when I started taking college level art classes, making me realize that structure really helped me, especially when I had an internal goal in mind with the stuff I was learning in art classes. Edit: As an aside I noticed that adults (me included) are kind of surprised and taken aback by the new phenomena of 15 year olds being really Really good at art. But I found that those artists have two-three things that adults dont have and didnt have at their age: Time and Resources. It's also a huge possibility that they have also taken art classes and are given structure to their drawing practice.

I’m from Vietnam where STEM majors are valued and compulsory education guide students towards STEM as well (math, physics, chem, IT, etc.) I didn’t really suck at these subjects but I just knew I couldn’t stay with them in the long run. Therefore I only started drawing and art seriously in 12th grade (its a bit late) and pursuing design in my college years while also learning art as a side hustle. I wished I had focused on art more since young but until now I feel like I have made progress, some but not many :v

So tiny rant here? I've been learning digital art since 2019 with nothing but a crappy phone and was doing gacha art and now I still do art but it just doesn't feel the same anymore- everything that in doing feels wrong or just not good enough I'm friends with a pretty famous artist in the DSMP fandom and I've been friends with her since kindergarten- we both had small art acc until she changed into digital early 2021 and she has somehow improved more than I ever could in 2 years??? I'm so proud of her for hitting 56k but I feel so unmotivated now I know our skill sets are different but tiktok ain't helping either with people younger than me just excelling in art while I'm stuck here with whatever I'm doing I know I'm improving but I don't feel like it's enough??? It's not my friends fault- she's basically my personal hypeman but it still doesn't feel like I'm doing enough I'm 14 I have my whole life to improve but my tiny pea brain wants to ✨end me ✨

Please remember that all of these people had to put GREAT EFFORT to get to the level they are in. Of course some people progress faster and others slower, and of course some people have "talent" which makes things like as art easier to pick up, but that will only lead you so far until you need to put real effort. Plus, what they upload to the internet is VERY PROBABLY but a fraction of the amount of art they did, and they themselves had to go through a huge process of trial and error to get to where they currently are. Art is not easy thing to master and it requires a lot of ,not only effort, but determination as well

I would feel so discouraged with my progress because I did the thing...compared myself to others ALL THE TIME. If they were younger, it was worse. But more lately, now that I'm "old", I'm trying to embrace all the things that I enjoy doing, but doing them one at a time until I feel like playing with another medium. I was encouraged to embrace having a well-rounded artistic skillset, because some specialize in one thing. I'm good at many things! It feels nice to know that. :-3

At first I just drew circle heads, could not draw eyes, barely added any shading and only added highlights to the hair and eyes, and absolutely sucked. But now I don’t draw circle heads, drawing eyes is no longer impossible, I actually know how to shade, and add highlights wherever they’re supposed to be, not just the eyes and hair lol

Keep practising! You might not notice any improvement at first... but after you start looking back through all your work, over time you’ll see how much you’ve achieved! Never stop, but don’t wear yourself out. Take breaks if you need to, but never forget that creating art is fun, beautiful and enjoyable. Don’t let tiredness and artist block stop you forever. There’ll always be a way to continue art. (Don’t forget art comes in many different shapes, forms and colours. For example, paining, knitting, craft, brick laying etc.. if you get bored, try another art form! Basically everything’s art if you think about it 🤔 💭 )

In fact, nobody starts off good at anything, not just art. The first piece you create will look like dogshit, but all you gotta do is follow your heart, keep going, and let out all your blood, sweat, and tears to get to the caliber where you want to be.

Reminder: The only person stopping you is yourself, everyone's art journey is different so it doesn't make sense to compare your art level to someone else's. Instead compare your current skill, to your skill yesterday/a week ago/months ago and see what you can do to improve it. I'm not saying don't compare your work to other people at all (you can see what other elements of their art makes it look good and use that element in your own work) but don't compare your art journey with theirs because people start drawing at different ages, have different learning paces, some draw everyday and some don't, some put in countless of hours in learning the fundamentals and we don't notice that. Just keep going, learning and applying and you'll definitely get there! ❤
