So coming in at #10, it’s a song by a Scottish pop group who enjoyed several UK hits between 1968 and 1976. Originally called Dean Ford & The Gaylords, they later changed their name to Marmalade. The song is Reflections of My Life. For better or for worse, Marmalade perhaps best remembered in the UK for their cover of the Beatles' "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da." In at #9 it’s an American Blues and soul singer who has been called the king of romantic Chicago soul. Tyrone Davis with Turn Back the Hands of Time. Though versatile enough to handle everything from pop-soul to funk to bluesy chitlin-circuit R&B, Tyrone’s signature sound was smooth soul. Tyrone was best known for his classic "Can I Change My Mind" as well as "Turn Back the Hands of Time." Coming in at the #8 spot it’s Instant Karma (We All Shine On) by John Lennon and Yoko Ono. John Lennon wrote and recorded this song in a day. Said Lennon, “I wrote it in the morning on the piano. So at the #7 position it’s the King of the Novelty hit, at least in the 70s… It’s the song Everything is Beautiful by family-friendly entertainer Ray Stevens. In 1970, Stevens was given his own TV variety show in 1970 called The Ray Stevens Show, however, it lasted just one season. Moving along to the #6 position on the countdown we have The Friends of Distinction and Love or Let Me Be Lonely. The Friends of Distinction formed in 1968 in Los Angeles with original members Floyd Butler, Harry Elston, Jessica Cleaves, and Barbara Jean Love. The song was a hit, peaking at #5 on the R&B chart and #3 on the Hot 100. The next release, "Going in Circles," climbed to #3 on the R&B chart. When Love took time off during her pregnancy, Charlene Gibson replaced her, singing lead on the Friends' third hit, "Love or Let Me Be Lonely". Heading into the #4 spot it’s a song that is both a love story and a tale of a shady character up to no good. It’s Vehicle by The Ides of March. The song would reach #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #6 on the Cash Box chart. Getting closer to that coveted #1 slot, at #3 we have The Beatles with a Paul McCartney special... the great, the legendary, Let It Be. This is certainly one of the The Beatles most memorable songs and one of Paul’s most beautiful compositions. Shuffling in at the #2 position, it’s song by the King of Pop himself... along with Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, and Marlon. It’s the Jackson 5 with ABC. This was their first single from the album of the same name and the follow-up to their previous #1 hit “I Want You Back.” In 1965, now Chad Allan and the Expressions, they released "Shakin' All Over", the band's first major hit.
