I think the point about consuming content is underrated. During my work day, I have reselling content playing constantly and I treat it as part of my work. If I can work efficiently while also learning simultaneously, my profit per hour is being fully maximized and is on an exponential scale to build a better and better business! Thanks for the great info and for the shoutout too!

If you are moving for an eBay business make sure to first go there and test the waters. A town of 15k people is actually not that big and unless its a super wealthy area you might not find stuff worth selling. I have driven to many different areas testing the waters and to be honest sometimes cities/areas of over a million people are not that good, but then some are amazing. If you look at any of the RU-vidrs making 100k+ they all seem to live in Florida, Texas, Utah and California. There's a good reason for that and not all areas of the Country are equal when it comes to reselling, no matter what anyone tries to tell you. Just this last week I went to about 25 thrift stores in a city of 2 million people and it was terrible. I got 4 items and would have gotten maybe 30+ in those 3 days had I stayed home. It would be exciting to be able to totally pick up roots and chase a dream. I wish you the best of luck.

@@titantv9496 i’ve lived in a town of 450 people with the nearest grocery store 20 miles away, for 35 years. I’m a retired dispatcher and in Wyoming we are used to driving 100 to 200 miles a day just to go to work and back sometime. over the past two years I’ve built my eBay business up to top rated seller plus and that with all the long distance travel, I have to do to find items to sell. But I also have other resources such as closet, clean out and house clean out. Moving to this bigger town 100 miles away will give me access to more thrift shops and get a college town with a big university, so most of the clothing is donated is trending and more useful to young people and definitely more modern type stuff. But I also am a participant in the mountain man rendezvous where we shoot black powders and throw tomahawks and cook over a fire and reenact the 1840s so some of the clothes I get and some that I make and sell are completely different than what I do on eBay. I have a variety of income sources because my retirement isn’t enough to live on even in Wyoming. I’ve always done things by the seat of my pants and relied on the Lord to get me through it and give me insight. I appreciate your input. The closest really large city in Wyoming would be Cheyenne and it’s only 55,000 people. The next one would be Fort Collins and Denver, which I can go to and source quite well actually because there are two Goodwill outlets. I’ve been very blessed to be able to get enough inventory from the two tiny thrift shops in my area where I live right now and a few others within 100 miles. It’s all about work, it’s always about the work. Good luck in your endeavors as well.

I've not been at this long, but your channel has provided me so much value! The sell-through rate has really helped me understand why some of my items just don't move. I'd never had that explained before. It's huge. You mention waiting almost 2 years before starting your RU-vid channel. That's also a side income! Have you ever talked about income from that? I always find it inspiring. If you'd rather not then it's all good. Thanks again!

Long time listener, first time commernter. I ran too fast and need to slow down. Thanks for the wake up call. I have a few questions: Most important to me: 1) What is a "good sell thru rate" Does everyone have a different definition? I know you say 100% sale thru rate a lot but one thing I sell is DVDs at a low sell the rate and still make $1,000 a month on them. I just have a bigger inventory and selection. Do you have a sliding scale based on profit or stick to a strict 100% sale thru rate even if it is a 10x opportunity. 2) Do you consider the time value of money? You had said you would buy something that had a $2 profit if you know it will sell quick. I can't sell anything for anything less than a $4 profit because it is a big waste of time finding it, listing it, packing it and going to the post office. 3) I know you talk a lot to beginners but do you consider having positives like 100% feedback rating, 15K+ sales, free returns, lower price than competitors, etc in the sell thru rate or just 100% straight up regardless. 4) How do you test vintage electronics if the a/v adaptors, cables and components are also rare and vintage? I bought some and realized I didn't have all wires and components to test a 40 year old electronic. Enjoy the content! Keep educating us, it is helping.

I have been selling online since 1993. i remember the good ole days when it was fun. There are so many rules and hoops to jump through now it is pure misery. When someone asks me what advice I can give them for selling online to make money, I tell them easy answer. Do NOT do it! If it weren't for my experience and the fact that I list items that I am the ONLY online seller of, I would have sunk long ago. I can't even comprehend what it would be like to try to start up these days from scratch. Good luck if that is your path. Lol!

I was still a kid in ‘93 but did start using eBay about ten years later and have 19 years registered as an active seller. While there’s not much consistency with volume over those near two decades, as some years my day job was either too time consuming or it brought in enough $$ that it wasn’t worth the time listing anything less than $500 or so. But for at least 8 out of those 19 years, I had a minimum of 1000 items sold per year, and 3 of those 8 years it was my main source of income, had employees to help & and my yearly transactions grossed over $250k. That being said ive seen it all, I know the best and worst parts but more specifically I’ve seen the changes for worse as they happen and each time it hits my income (which hits theirs too in fees) and pushes me closer to the edge of quitting eBay for good and just keep using Amazon for new items and local sales instead for the used. You’re correct in saying the rules and the hoops to jump thru have been crazy especially so in the last few years. The most wild thing as of late is the returns, more specifically the MBG aspect and buyers abusing it to get free labels for returns. It used to be wonderful when you could list something for parts not working, no returns, (obviously being honest and detailed in the listing, never trying to trick people just don’t want to pay shipping for people who don’t read or pay attention) and after the sale there was NO RETURNS. Just like you set in your listings, just like the way it should be. Well now buyers can return anything for any reason without paying for a shipping label but still getting 100% of their $$ back. Than you’re out on the price of two labels and you items probably broken now or stolen /swapped. A lot of buyers have figured it out that all you need to do is pick a MBG covered reason for return and it’s a guarantee. For anything. Doesn’t matter what you say. I tested this and had my girlfriend buy a listing from me, a single new tennis ball (as a test). Shipped it 1 mile away to her condo she rents out. Had her open up a return case against me, claiming the item is not as described. She uploaded the same pic o used in my listing for the return case photos. I had her write the reasoning details as “ the ball is fine, no issues with that, I just realized I’m not good at tennis and don’t want it anymore and don’t want to pay for shipping”. So I went thru the process, “argued” that it’s not a valid reason to open a case. Got eBay involved. And guess what? They denied me, saying that I was at fault for not sending an item that was the same as the description. Even know the picture was literally my listing picture of the ball, and the description says there’s nothing wrong with it, and admits the real reason why returning. In 19 years I’ve never won a single case. And I’ve had much more obvious and worse cases with people admitting fraud clearly in the details. Not a single one and this experiment just confirmed that there’s no point in fighting, eBay does not protect sellers no matter how long or how much money you’ve made them, they only collect your $$ and lock your account when you fight back too much (that happened to me twice as well)

@@danielmartin3350 Yep. All you say is true. I could write a book about all of the ways sellers get screwed. You touched on just some of them here. I'm sure you know the other ways as well as I do. As I said, I miss the good ole days when it was fun. As long as you've been doing it, you obviously remember better days. But the golden age was the 90's. Buyers were just as protected as they are now except now the process for sellers is horrible. Even when ebay first started, if a buyer didn't receive a shipment, the seller was responsible. Same thing these days except as you say, we have to cover labels, etc. Plus even when customers commit fraud, they are found innocent. Amazon is worse than ebay when it comes to that. They will literally rule against you even when you have delivery confirmation saying it was delivered. I have had several of those. In which cases they are either lying or have a porch pirate. Either way, the seller is found responsible, refund is given and your account health is affected. I wish there were a way to sue sites like this for the things they do to sellers businesses.

Just listed my first Canon Digital Camera. Had quite a few viewers and watchers within seconds of listing. I can honestly tell you I've never had that kind of traffic with my usual clothing shoes and accessories. I think I am going to make the switch. And with the new frame of mind of looking everything up to the T serial numbers etc finally understanding what sell through rate really means even though I knew but I didn't really understand it until you explained it in the last video of yours that I watched. Thanks so much for all your information!

So when we see hundreds of listings for an item but only a few solds, even though those sold listings contain many many multiples, doesn't that mean only a VERY FEW SELLERS are having success selling that item? So then we need to look for any differences between the "solds" and the "unsolds" listings. Many times, the key difference is free shipping. This is why i am very leery of retail arbitrage, esp. with inexpensive items, including some makeup items. It seems there are high volume sellers who are routinely able to offer free shipping as standard. I am not able to do that and still make a profit. Still hoping to learn and researching. Any thoughts on this? Keep the videos coming. I am learning a lot and my sales are increasing!

I have a question. I have two tower speakers up on eBay. My question is how to charge calculated shipping on something like that if there’s two items that ship in two boxes. I did add a quantity of two to my listing with calculated shipping so they would get charged for both. But seems like it should be easier than that. It’s causing confusion and buyers are asking questions. Maybe next time I’ll try free shipping and go off the high side of the calculated ship price.

Hi Jride, your videos are inspiring and much appreciated! Quick question ... I recently inherited a ton of high end skin care products from my mother, unused in original packaging. However, most have expired, expiration dates.? Many items are discontinued but still sought-after.? Should I list these items or disregard all together? Thanx Dani
