I'm imagining this running on the televisions 24/7 and whenever an athlete died of exhaustion one would immediately take his/her place and they'd never be allowed to stop
My two favorite things about this video: A. The weird but perfectly timed freeze frames B. The announcer who says "America's Best Aerobic Athletes" every thirty seconds for no good reason.
I actually recognized this from the Key & Peele skit that turned it into a murder mystery moment, which I think is where the audio has been grabbed from? 😅
Perfect description of the song. I started thinking "this would be great excercise music" then "wtf is this hell in music form" back to "great work out beat"
@@tackyman2011 LOL. l never got that bad, but I saw it too. (I was 7th grade in 1980 and college grad 1989] I'd probably have a heart attack if I did aerobics like that today
Anyone could be a winner you just need to develop a strong mind and confidence. Trust me, confidence is key, coming from a kid who was shy all the way up to 14
I mean this was before 9/11, the global financial crisis, social media, trump, COVID, climate change, opioid crisis, and hyperinflation. I was in highschool during the 90s and people were genuinely more optimistic back then. Things really took a turn after 9/11.
It’s a curious thing- the original video doesn’t have this neverending loop, but introduces all the couples, groups that we see here. I don’t know why they cut all that out and looped the first few seconds over and over. That’s why you here that guy saying it over and over.
My old music teacher said that if we were ever sad we should watch the aerobics world championships to be happy it works i just bawled my eyes out im fine now
@a well me and my mates were helping the teacher get the table to the other room (there are 6 of us) and we have separated rooms, there are many buildings in that school, and its a public school
Yup... I've seen this video pop up randomly for YEARS. I had forgotten the music. I had this stupid thing playing in my head a couple of months ago, and i couldn't fucking remember what it was from. It finally went away, and i forgot all about it... That is, until this video started up. It came right back and i instantly remembered thinking about this stupid track.
On the real! And doing all those full extensions on that fast beat is not easy. You can see only a couple of the dancers a tad bit behind the beat with their high kicks and such but with the editing they still make it work.
I trained in this for 7 years when I was a kid. Can confirmed, it is exhausting! And this dance set did go on for absolutely ages compared to most, I seriously respect these folks
I've somehow ended up watching this once a year over the past decade. The weird chromatic melody, the Star Trek-like retro-futuristic studio set, and the disturbingly peppy dancing always transports me to a different planet.
In 2021, the Library of Congress selected this video for preservation in the U.S. National Film Registry as being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant”.

We may have laughed at most of them when we're younger, but over time and seeing this as we're in our 30s and 40s. They were in some serious shape, and conditioned af
Exactly! I was telling an old classmate as we were laughing hysterically that while it may look funny, they where in top notch shape. I actually envy their level of conditioning... from my couch lol!
the 80s crept back in because of Trump. Humans are just like ants or roman citizens, we follow the leader. This is an 80s fever dream of Japanese consumerism and unlimited money supply
Hello everyone am welcome to another episode of “Why is this in my recommendations?” with a surprising guest star appearance by the comment “I really enjoyed it!”
Fight it! Look away before it's too late or next time the rest of us open this video you'll be right there in the center front wearing the outfit and doing the routine!
This video is the reason I lost 10 kg's. After I saw this I started following 80s aerobic workouts. At first I wasn't able to follow them even for 5 mins, slowly I began to keep up with the videos. After 3 years I still exercise regularly and never gained those 10 kgs back.
@playstation3.508 lol I dont care if you believe me or not. What is there to not believe exactly? I started following aerobics videos and lost weight. Simple as that
That's sorta inspiring. Do you feel any type of difference with your body? I've been uncomfortable in mine for a while now but I never really have any confidence to do anything about it
@@m0chikim_ About 2-3 years ago I constantly had this rhythm issue with my heart, I would wake up feeling like I've been running whole night. I saw a doctor thinking I might have a heart disease, they said nothing's wrong with my heart. Then people kept telling me it might be due to depression etc. I just started working out thinking it might help and after only a few months and about 4-5 kg of weight loss, I had zero issues with my heart. And to this day I haven't experienced that issue again. That's the biggest difference I notice. Now this is about health, not beauty but also waking up with a flatter stomach is a huge confidence booster. Since aerobics are mostly cardio they're great for burning fat.
@@m0chikim_ You don't have to follow 80s aerobics though, just start with a simple cardio workout, there are so many of those on RU-vid. 15-20 minutes every other day plus cutting down some of the really unhealthy food you're consuming in half, you'll definitely see some changes. For example if you add 2 spoons of sugar in your coffee, make it 1 spoon. If you order pizza once a week, reduce it to every 2 weeks. This is all about making small changes and slowly making exercise a part of your life. That way it's easier to maintain it for years, insted of starving yourself or waiting for inspiration to go to gym.
@@Pixeliarmus thanks! That's a lot of useful information. I sorta get tired of being out of breath very quickly, low self esteem, low energy, etc. I think I should definitely try to do something about it now while I'm still young. Thanks a lot for helping and I hope you love a long and healthy life!
