Im so glad you reacted to this! I highly recommend Be Kind Rewind videos on Joan Crawford, there are a few that channel does that do an amazing job at highlighting the story behind this movie and also the story behind the legend that goes beyond this movie. This movie ended up being a accidental cult classic bc the director and producers didn't scale back the over-acting and didn't give any context to why Joan was the way she was.

She supposedly hated wire hangers because they reminded her of extreme poverty she grew up in the only job her single mom could get was doing the neighbors laundry

I think there might have been another reason she didn't like wire hangers.

Hollywood really made light of Christina walking in on Joan and the maid drunk and laughing. The truth is: Christina “walked in” on Joan and the maid…forget the axe and wire hangers; they were scissor-sisters🤣🤣🤣

I heard that it's because wire hangers cause dents on clothes, not to mention rust and damage clothes, so that's probably why they aren't ideal for the "expensive" dresses. Though others claim that its due to childhood trauma of Joan's related to poverty and laundromats

Other accounts were that Crawford hated wire hangers because she had a few back alley abortions as a young woman, and wire hangers were used for the procedure back then.

I enjoyed that reaction ! I can never say no to this film. This film is as camp as Liza Minelli singing life is a cabaret while ridding a fully decorated Christmas tree but it is giving me LIFE every time !! I am sorry but Faye Dunaway should just embrace her performance. She HATES talking about it and she actually asks for interviewers not to even mention the film. It is sad she takes herself too seriously, she really should have a sense of humor about it and embrace the LGBT following she has with that film. However, it is super ironic but Bette Davis in an interview once called Faye Dunaway "The worst person I ever had to worked with" so you just know that if Bette Davis calls the actress who played the one person she had the biggest holywood feud in history with in a movie the worst actress she ever worked with that it means Faye Dunaway must be next level difficult haha

I read the book, its very very similar to the movie. Though, there is tons of explanations in the book like for the wire hangers and the night raids. And there is stuff in the book that wasnt in the movie, in regards to when Christina went to the private school. I highly recommend the book.

Some of the timeline stuff in this movie is messy. The great part she wanted but wasn't offered MIGHT have been "A Woman's Face" but Christina would've only been a toddler, I think. I also don't think the hair cutting scene was even in the book - might've been purely invented for the film. The other big one that's always bugged me is the night she wins the Oscar for Mildred Pierce because the photo of her receiving the award in bed is quite famous and her hair is very different because she was filming Humoresque at the time. Great reaction video btw!

In the interview with Christina crawford she revealed the reason why Joan crawford was bot approved for adoption with the agency is they noticed her temperament she didn't talk to any of her relatives and of course she was single too yes but she also had Bo relationships with her relatives . But they were right after all with that hunch...she always used objects to hit her and she said she did make a mistake and use 2 wire coat hangers ..that was cleanser that spilled all over the bathroom floor. I would not keep a baby only to give them up and subject a poor orphan to this . It's so sad and inexcusable what a mother she was to these poor children and they are scarred for life the movie doesn't really even begin to describe the abusive childhood these children had to endure

While this movie is considered a classic, it's also horribly portrayed. According to the real Christina, they did not represent Joan correctly at all like the movie made her out to be this overly exaggerated psychotic supervillain. Not to say Joan was a perfect mother cause otherwise there wouldn't be a book but the movie was still inaccurate to how it really was and I feel bad for Christina for what they turned her book into.

I saw. "Mommy Dearest " in its initial release, FAYE DUNAWAY wonderful but CHRISTINA not totally truthful which time as shown. When you look at "Mildred Pierce " be sure to see "Possessed " 1946 she also did a different "Possessed " about 1934.
