You are so very lucky to have an FJ40 that didn't rust away like mine did. These were thee Four Wheeler to own and what a shame they rusted away so very quickly. I do wonder who did your Grand Father manage to keep this one this long. If I owned this one, I would take step NOW to get that rust seen to and have it protected if you want to pass this super Toyota on to your children. What a great vehicle!

Thank you sir for your kind words! I am indeed very lucky to have this FJ40 and I cherish it everyday. And I am planning on dealing with the rust as soon as possible to preserve the cruiser for years to come.

@@gadgetorian-rctechgadgetsm4566 It is at 67 thousand, it has never rolled over to 100,000. It was a ranch vehicle so it never got driven extremely far. Thanks for the comment!

That engine was built from the plans of the 50’s vintage Chevy 230 cid straight six under license from Chevrolet. One of the most reliable American engines ever built.

Thanks Morgan, You provided us with a valuable lesson. Original and 'un-restored' contributes to the longevity of a high quality vehicle like a Land Cruiser. The number of people that think they can outwit the engineering department of Toyota amazes me. Most of them end up reducing the value, reliability and usefulness of their vehicle ;) If anyone wants to see a modern equivalent, check out the Hilux Tim RU-vid channel where he drives a bare-bones Land Cruiser Commercial Utility. Finally, if Toyota is watching this, bring back a basic, 2 door, cheap, manual 4x4 for North America.

67k ranch miles is basically the equivalent of 400k normal road miles. This fj40 has definitely had some restoration efforts. The exterior has had a quick newer paint job, you can see the masking tape line when he opens the door. The seats have been cheaply recovered. I'm not sure what the big deal of front and rear leaf springs is, you can buy vehicles today with front and rear leaf springs off of the dealer lot. It's not really a rare novelty or anything. The guy kinda seems out of touch with vehicles not that that's bad. Overall it looks like he is enjoying it.

67k. Sure it's not 167k or 267k like most Toyota's? That is barely broken in. As far as that little bit of rust inside and whatever else is underneath I would tackle that sooner rather than later because that is way to cool a ride to let it get eaten.
