Amano's influence on you is very evident in your scaping style. Not copying or duplicating what he did, but taking in his teachings on natural style aquariums, where the hardscape and plants can stand on their own, with the right choice of fish being an embellishment for the scape. I'm very sure he would have approved of your perspective on his teachings.
I was only introduced to aquascaping from youtube giving me a random recommendation to one of your early videos. So i'm one of your success stories George. I was amazed what i saw and wanted an aquascape. I watched all your videos and saved up enough to buy a decent set-up. Followed all your guidelines and have had almost no trouble in maintaining my tank (so far.) So thank you! Thanks George. Nature Aquarium World is and still is immensely important to me, it’s not the pictures it’s the philosophy and the musing on life he puts in. It an aquarium book written with real heart and that’s not too common a thing. Can you keep discus in a planted tank with a field of glossostigma? I’m not sure but it’s in there! I’m grateful for everything you’ve done for the hobby and long may you continue.
Yes George, I’ve had “Nature Aquarium World” since the late nineties and agree that it ABSOLUTELY is responsible for changing what I wanted to achieve with an aquarium. I had kept fish with plants since the late seventies, but I had never seen anything like Amano’s wonderful underwater worlds. I also have books 2 and 3. I must say that even though I enjoy “Complete Works,” that IMO the photos are too small and are not printed with the same quality and depth of field. It’s definitely worth getting, though! Puppy alert for you, George: keep these books on a high shelf! My original book has a chewed corner thanks to a dear, long-gone canine companion. :)
what do you think of the complete works? I want to buy it, but want an opinion by someone who read the books. What does it contain that is different than the first book? Which one is the best in your opinion? I can get only one for now
I've been a hobbyist aquascaper for nearly a decade now, and purchased the second book you showed several years ago, Takashi Amano's "Nature Aqaurium: Complete Works 1985-2009" but your video here was the first I'd heard that Amano died in 2015! Always had his museum in Japan on my list of places to visit and I'm sad to (belatedly) hear of his passing. Thanks for sharing this more insightful video, going to go binge the playlist for your 1200 since I was just looking through the "Complete Works" for inspiration and chose one just like yours! one of the many things, youtubers like yourself may not realize is how much you have touched lives and continue to inspire hobbyists ALL OVER THE WORLD......people who are thousands of miles away, who may never really have a chance to meet you personally to thank you for being so selfless in sharing your learnings to them... we will be forever indebted to all of you.....
You are basically the British version of me...right down to the aquarium behind you! The only difference is that I don't have my own RU-vid channel, Lol! I have however been in the hobby since 1970 and have kept just about every type of aquarium possible. Amano forever changed my focus when his book came out. I fell in love with the concept, and every tank I do now is with this in mind. He was an amazing man who will have a major impact on the hobby long after his death. Keep up the good work George....love the channel and recommend it to everybody I talk to in the hobby!
Back in my first days getting into tropical fish I was 'hard-sold' that book by the shop owner. Bought it and, wow, what a book. Best of all the fish books I have seen or gotten. Thank you for the remind. I still have it and it remains one of the most inspirational aquaria books. I keep thinking I need to get out of London and somewhere closer to where I can get back into the hobby. Thanks again for the posting. PS: Yes, I agree completely, the aquaria hobby is a great therapy for ptsd. I also think it grants insights on the environment, natural aquascapes, and instils an insight on nature well-being.
Through you, that book has inspired myself as well as a ton of others! Your aquascaping videos were my first exposure to planted aquariums. I don't currently own any aquascaping literature, everything ive learned and accomplished thus far has been through watching the most informative youtube channels i can find. The 1200 has been a benchmark as far as low maintenance and impact. All my tanks are low budget, however turned out really nice. Some more than others. Thanks George for keeping us inspired! I found my first Amano's Nature Aquarium World Book 2 at the Wiesbaden Air Base library when I was stationed in Germany in the 90s and I now have all of his but the latest one, I have always kept aquariums since I was a very young child and even throughout my entire military career when not deployed and also as a suffer from PTSD myself and one who has helped treat many in my job field I can absolutely attest that aquatic life keeping helps in lowering anxiety and helping with depression which is such a major part of PTSD symptomology. Thanks for sharing an influential piece that helped inspire you into the world of aquascaping and again congratulations in all the super achievements and positive influence in the hobby.

I love the look of it! Slow growing plants, easy to care and more relaxing look with balanced colors. Mine aquarium is the same. I had a pleasure to read Nature aquarium world book once and it's mind opening book!
It's amazing like a forest in the avatar film. I will probably never have a aqua scape tank that is why I watch you're videos. Maybe one day a micro aqua scape like a 1st cube tank would that work?

hi George, is there a reason why you always place the inlet and outlet right next to each other, instead of placing the outlet at the back corner? I was of the impression that provides better circulation all round. I've observed that you do this even for more "cubic" tanks!

Hi Dennis, it could be ok but spread might be an issue at the corners. You’d have to suspend quite high, but lose intensity at the bottom of the tank. Depends really on what plants you want to grow and if you’re using CO2 etc. 👍

Aquariums lower blood pressure? Help relax? Help anxiety? When is the last time you’ve been fighting an algae outbreak, trying to figure out why a plant is performing poorly, or hooked up a cheapo SunSun filter and just know every time you come home it will have emptied the whole tank and flooded your house? 😂. Only kidding... it can have its stresses as with anything, but I agree, a great hobby that really can pay back in enjoyment, health, and happiness
@@GeorgeFarmerStudios I'm so in decided whether to purchase the 1200 aquascaper or the 1200 ea freshwater... I love the aquascaper and can see it pros but it worries me being in the living room with aresols sprays polish ect plus having a 7 year old and a 1 year old items being thrown in and wandering fingers worries me to death this is what's swaying me to the ea1200.. I can't stop watching your scapes and it's worrying I can't create something beautiful in the taller tank ... as you can see I'm up in the air but really want to get one ordered this weekend !
