With Penn's latest big pit reel-the Penn Vantage XT Long Cast-the reel masters have gone back to the drawing board with this stunning reel, utilising an impressively rigid yet improbably lightweight XRC carbon-infused body and rotor, a durable CNC Gear machined from premium metals for a long-lasting life, and a Quick Drag system that allows for lightning fast switches between free spool and drag in the heat of battle. It also looks great, as Luke Venus will show you...

Can you help with line capacity for the reducers? Nothing in the box.

I would have liked to have seen the two sizes next to each other. Also, what are the spool diameters and stroke lengths? The Diawa Basia/Emblem/Crosscast 45 is 45mm. How do these compare?

As with Shimano black is aimed at fresh water and silver for Salt. That is where the difference ends, if you can bare silver there are bargains to had. Tidal XT is the name for silver. My local dealer has both but with a £20-30 difference due to discounts

@@DraganUgrenovic-nh1pm yes use for sea beach fishing with braid and mono, very smooth and incredibly light for quality. Would have full confidence even with Rays etc. search for the bargain👍..

It very much pays to shop about.... Total fishing tackle, Angling direct and Ebay are my go to sites for some absolute bargains so it just depends on the size of fish you're targeting and at what distance The sonik xtractor recon and insurgent ranges cover most of my situations, casting comfortably upto 100 m with 8 or 9ft rods (which are fantastic to use btw), over that I'd go up 12ft rods or 13ft for deep pit fixed zig rigs otherwise those little rods cover most waters I fish and pack down very small, it's rare I use 12ft rods these days Reels can vary but mini big pits cover them size rods with ease, Wychwood 65s and 75s are truly excellent quality and value (when you remove the spring in the spool cap to make them QD), okuma also offer some solid reliable baitrunner style reels at bargain prices, sonik reels are either solid and dependable or they can fall apart (depends on the model although a little diy can fix the issues) but they can be found at bargain prices I only buy items if they are a bargain these days, it's nearly as addictive as catching specimens 😂 (always new /sealed) and in the last year I have bought 2 sonik xtractor recons (I now have 3 sets of different tc's) with 2 xtractor 5000 reels and 2 matching rod sleeves for 82 quid, all in (what a bargain), 3 insurgent 2.75lb cork handle rods costing between 35-40 quid each which are usually upto 140 quid each ( I absolutely love using these with the 65s) , 3 wychwood 65s at 50 quid each, a set of 4 sonik gizmo alarms which includes a receiver and bivvy lamp for 92 quid and even a trakker tempest 100 brolly for 138 quid.... all brand new off ebay on auction mostly for less than half their usual selling prices (ignore the rrp as those prices are far from reality) and in some cases 1/4 of the usual tackle shop price, only yesterday I picked up 2 korum opportunist xtnd 12ft 1.75lb rods at 25 quid each reduced from 79 quid from angling direct, I've bought them for big tench waggler fishing at range but they will easily put carp in the 20s or 30s on the bank as I've seen last year The lines I use atm for all reels are either gardner gt 80+, gt hd or hydrotuff between 12 and 20lb.....you shouldn't scrimp on this bit as line quality should be a priority with the gardner range consistently being amongst if not THE very best on the market I have lots of tackle from over 40 years of carp fishing and those rods and reels I've mentioned are as good and in many cases better than some of the silly price kit I own, have owned or are now on sale but for a fraction of the price, companies like korum and ngt also produce some top quality kit for bargain prices especially with further reductions on top whereas most (not all) Nash products I've had over the years are usually premium prices for low to average quality at best (often falling apart within weeks or months) so I avoid the brand completely these days, just don't think that high prices equates to high quality as being a tackle tart or having "premium" brand loyalty will only catch your bank account contents, the fish don't know the difference or even care, they just want food.... Fox have always offered a solid happy balance of price and quality so they also come recommended ...... 👍 A guy from Lancashire advising a guy from Yorkshire on how to be tighter with his money..... Who would have thought that even possible eh..? 😂 Tight lines pal

While I'm generally an advocate for cheap fishing gear I feel that reels are where it pays not to go too cheap, obviously there's no need to go spunking a months wages on basias but a decent mid range reel can last many years whereas the entry level ones can get a bit dicey after a year or two (yes, yes we've all had a dirt cheap reel that refused to die but they're the exception, not the rule)

With the reputation that Penn has for robustness, these probably are good value for money as a long term investment, compared to many budget reels.

the problem with all these reviews is that none of them actually take a video during the fish drill itself and using the brake...
