Glad you enjoyed the bike David. It’s safe to say Andy and his team at Spoons customs absolutely smashed it. It was a labour of love built on the memories of an old evo with new and leftover parts from my tt bike. It started with my exact geo fit after a bike fit and went from there. I’m just finishing the build off with the handlebar setup, including the integrated dust cap, which lines the handlebars with the head tube perfectly. It’s not the lightest bike I’ve had, but at 88kg (body mass needed for work) I’m never going to be the fastest up hill. That said, this bike smashes it downhill, with the same times to Michał Kwiatkowski down some decents in Mallorca, I’ve been loving it. Once I’m recovered from surgery I’m sure it’ll fly! I know some have mentioned about the sram/Shimano mix. I’ve always found shimano shifts the best, but the rotors delaminate and warp, so I use sram. Also I’ve snapped two Shimano chainsets so will never use Shimano chainsets again, plus the power meters read badly out. The chainset will likely be sanded down to remove the sram logo to sedate people who can’t take Frankenstein setups - which is stupid as you should use the best parts you can get/have, not caring about brands. If anyone wants a steel/alu/carbon custom frame, speak to Andy, he knows his stuff and will leave you with a smile. You will also be the envy of your mates, I can’t work out which is the best bit 🤣

I like that very much. Am a fan of the older frame aesthetic. I’m not a professional cyclist, so I really don’t care about the tiny gains each iteration of the big brand bikes make. Also, gold chains are very, very fast.

Hey, I watch your channel a lot; just wanted to draw your attention to the fact that you can test and review any bike of your viewers and it’ll be fun and exciting to watch. You -not only you but other bike reviewers on RU-vid too- often mention that you can’t get your hands on this or that bike as the manufacturer isn’t that interested in lending them; however you have many followers now who’d be happy for you to test their bike together with an ever changing combination of kit they’ve equipped them with (a bonus) I mean I would give you my 2022 giant tcr advanced pro 1 (if i was reasonably close) which, despite being devoid of any new tech, is still an amazing bike, especially for what it cost. Yeah, any bike; common bikes, good value bikes or not so good (for you to decide) etc. Looking for a review of a new propel or tcr advanced pro zero for instance but not much out there.

@jimhize 11 месяцев назад
@@SpoonCustoms I said the opposite - that it’s pretty heavy despite being built with light components. I guess you could go for THM, Darimo, etc, but at that point it seems strange to me to start with a relatively heavy frame and try to get the weight down. Anyway, all I’m saying is I’m surprised the video describes a bike 1.4kg over the UCI limit as being light. That’s all.
@SpoonCustoms
@SpoonCustoms 11 месяцев назад
@@jimhize pro-tour bikes often weigh in at 500g+ over the UCI weight limit, 7.5kg+ isn't uncommon and they're not going slower on those. A Super Six hi Mod with Disc and Di2 last year was just shy of 8kg, that's not a heavy bike either, and doesn't feel it. I think the UCI weight limit is touted as a benchmark for a low weight too often, when it's quite frequently not that relevant. This bike uses a comparatively heavy frame for sure but the material has benefits that outweigh the penalty; in fit, personalisation and ride feel. Drop the classified system out of this bike, and it comes comfortably into range of most pro-tour bike weights, without any of the gram chasing parts that might empty your wallet also. Aethos, SL8, new Super Six, all bring that UCI weight limit back into reach this year, the grams arms race is back on clearly, but I'd still argue a 7.5kg is light and most people (amateur or pro) don't benefit much from using the UCI weight limit to benchmark a good, reliable high performance bike.

Looks great! Big point made about it being a British bike brand but then say it was made in Italy? Then frothing it was a one by system but it has a classified hub. @SpoonCustoms
@SpoonCustoms Год назад
It is 1x up front. With classified system bringing the benefits of 2x in terms of gear range. We fit, design and build everything in the UK. David refers to us as the ‘frame builder’ in the video, which is flattering to hear, but I’ve never called myself that although I have made the odd frame from time to time. almost every frame we’ve made for a customer over the years is fabricated by our long standing team in Vincenza, not too far from our first workshop in Montgenevre. I used to build them myself at that workshop in the mountains, but we moved everything to Surrey some years back now, but we do still head back there for testing and development and treat it a little like our second home. I spend as much time out there as the order book allows basically and we do arrange pick ups there if customers want to ride them in their ‘original’ home with us.

@@SpoonCustoms Thanks for your reply and some history of your brand. I checked out your website and your bikes look very nice. My comments are not about you, its about the information conveyed. @@mikeyw7891 its your bike isn’t it? I ofcourse don’t have access to a scale and your bike; but still i don’t believe it. David says it’s 8.2kg without pedals. You seem to have look carbon pedals which are about 190 grams. So, you’ll have to loose about 1.5kg to get it below 7.0 as you claim. I never seen 1000grams climbing wheels. Maybe about 1200 grams is as low mortals would be able to get. You have a c59 saddle , low weigh bottle cages, low weight pedals all weight weenie components. Nothing to gain there; the only thing which is hard to estimate are the wheels with this rear hub in it. If it was two by , those deep wheels wouldn’t weigh more than 1500grams with normal hubs. But it’s one by and the special hub in the back which weight i don’t know. I am sure it’s not 1000 grams or so…. So; i think you and david exaggerate quite a bit. I think you’ll might get it just below 8kg. 400/500 grams weight gain on light weight climber wheels and swap from hub gears to normal gears might just do that. How you’ll gain another 1000grams ? So yes that frames easy to put sub 7kg. I don’t as I’m over 85kg. Even comparing my bike to rides of Japan, his frames 1.4kg from memory and weights a total of 6.5, twisted wheels has an at his at low 5kgs. Also many of the parts were from a previous build. Also, David’s weights with the titanium speed play pedals. If I copied rides of Japan build exactly, the total build would be about 6.8, less with the wheels twisted wheels uses.
