What happens when you put a BRONZE player in a PLATINUM lobby in Overwatch 2 (OW2)? Can they hold their weight and get out of elo hell? 🤔

I don’t know if I believe in Elo hell😅 but I did get the bronze 5 bug (7W-3L was my placements for DPS). And I’m sitting in middle gold now. I noticed it’s a lot harder for DPS to climb out of lower ranks because support basically ignores the low health indicators making me stay out of the fight longer unless I run off for med packs. Tank I had no issue with my placements (no bug) and support is next.

You should get a full team of bronze players that think they're in plat and put them up against an actual plat team. Would be a little more telling than just sticking a bronze in with plats that could potentially enable/carry them.
@Pr3st0ne
@Pr3st0ne Год назад
Fun idea for a video, but then it would take a lot of work to decypher which of the bronze players are actual bronze and which aren't. Putting one guy and only watching him is more telling. If a bronze performs similarly as his teammates in plat and isn't dragging the team down, he belongs in plat, it's pretty simple.

@@Pr3st0ne no no thats where you are wrong, u dont need to be so bad to literally make the game unplayble for 4 other people so then you are not plat, lower elo players are still playing the game to some degree, a bronze mercy wouldnt take out the pistol and go in front of his tank trying to 1v1 the enemy tank, if there are 4 plat players in your team thats definitely enabling you as a bronze and you are gonna play better than your average games maybe, doesnt mean you are plat, an actual plat player would easily carry bronze games, even golds can do that, but if u are bronze you are tops silver, if you are silver you are tops gold, if ur skill level is way higher than your elo then u gonna carry, specially with the new system that recalibrates your sr rather than just have plus minus 25 sr every game.

I think right now Baptiste is the perfect “climb out of bronze” support. You can carry the game yourself if your dps aren’t doing their jobs. I consistently had damage on par with dps’s while outhealing all other healers. Helped me unstuck myself from bronze maining Mercy, even the best Mercy player won’t be able to change the tide of the game with bad teammates.
@daringiconoclast6547

@Invert-Y

Mercy can climb but only if you can use her pistol, it actually does decent damage
@desox123
@desox123 Год назад
This is just false as someone who started in silver way back in Season 7 and now have been masters all roles You can definitely climb with mercy. You can’t just heal bot you have to damage boost when people are using abilities and there aren’t crits. Practice the fly mechanics they are game changing. How to superjump: Fly then crouch How to spring: fly then hold backwards then jump Or fly then jump How to turn fly: fly to then look where you want to go then jump. Another tip is you need your team to group up when you ult it’s much more effective this way. Try ulting mid team fight this way the enemy has already wasted cool downs and committed to the fight it’s harder for them to escape. Sometimes ulting in is good but usually not. Don’t pop 2 support ults in the same fight if you see your other support use their ult save yours for next fight. Make sure to res when you can and another huge tip is heal your other healer before anyone else. If you ignore them and let them die you’re stuck solo healing for the remainder of the team fight. Don’t be afraid to whip out your pistol especially in your ult if you see a widow or sniper take that fight while in valk Strafe and make your movement really erratic while spamming headshots. Lasting heal your dps even if they are flanking don’t follow them into the enemys backline instead meet them halfway. Never leave the formation for someone who is massively out positioned you will die. Instead tell them to play health packs and try to get out alive. Hope this helps

While elo hell is real, it sholdnt hold you back any more. The new system placed me bronze 5 and after 80+ won games i'm gold 4 rn. Confidence and staying calm are critical points that almost never exist in low elo. Hectic aim and unsure where to go and what is to do, what ability when to use & bad positioning is what makes a bronze player. Ignore the shitty genji crying for it if your tank is the one actually playing well. Ult combos only matters if you're both on the same page and/or good. While nano is better for someone like genji, if he isn't playing well it's better to give it to a dva or ball that is. Assuming you are actually timing it well yourself, of course. If you can't figure out who that good player on the team is, then that's a weakness in your own game awareness. In Ow1 I mostly played casually with friends and for the most part was around silver. At some point I dedicated myself to trying to actually learn a champion well and I picked rein. Once I got my mechanics down, I could mostly just moonwalk on their team all game until I hit plat. Once I hit plat, the games were DIFFERENT. In certain ways way more fun. In mirror matches the first rein to make a mistake dies. Always need to focus on their ana's cool downs. MAJOR focus on shield management. You start to realize that you need to focus more on all these things because if you don't, you get punished. Plus, this "ebb and flow" that everyone talk about isn't something that you can just read up on. It's all instincts and you only learn that through the game.

I climbed out of bronze to high gold/low plat on all 3 roles in OW1 and while it feels bad to get totally unaware bots as teammates who try to heal and shoot through walls, if you’re good enough you will slowly rise. Just takes a lot of grinding and avoiding. OW2 then put me back in silver 5 and I’ve climbed to mid-gold again. I’ll probably end up in low plat again but the toxicity and lack of awareness of some silver and low gold players is pretty bad and does make it feel a bit like hell.

Biggest thing bronze-gold needs to learn is how to gain an advantage and then push (so ult to get one pick, a good play, health difference, etc). I tell this to everyone. Everybody is a plat or diamond in mechanics due to years and years of training by just playing. However, In OW you climb by teamplay, teamsense, and teamwork - NOT individual contribution. There are some diamond players that can't aim for shit. OW is 2000% team dependent and Blizzard likes it that way. He can't climb not because of his skill, but this lack of team skill.

@@DiscoWalrus uh.... no. There is a combination of both team play and individual play. How on earth did you arive to this conclusion. And that part about "Everyone is a plat or diamond in mechanics". I think what you meant to say is that everyone can at least get to plat/diamond with their given great utilization of teamplay ect. But to suggest that everyone on average has the mechanics of a plat/diamond player is just wrong. There are averages for each rank of the level of mechanics and they rise with each rank, as does teamplay. So no, not everyone has the mechanics of plat diamond. And no, overwatch is dependent on both individual skill AND teamplay.

@@DiscoWalrus Yeah this just sounds like a lot of cope, I agree that overwatch is highly teambased and you can definitely lose even when you're playing perfect if your team is bad but alot of people in diamond and above still had to climb there and even at high elo there are bad teammates, individual contribution matters and there are things that works at every elo such as good positioning and cooldown management. Getting used to how low elo players play just means abusing things that bad players do and getting used to not being punished for your mistakes. Learning what you can do better will help you climb, constantly thinking it's other people's fault will not help.

Elo hell 100% exists, I wrote my thesis on individual player contributions to team efforts in ranked environments for my game theory major. ELO should not be used to rank individual players in team based activities, especially not in asymmetrical activities. The issue everyone misunderstand is, just playing at your level will not allow you to climb by solo queueing unless your level is far above where you're playing at. For example: a gm can easily drag themselves out of bronze because they are exponentially better than bronze players. A silver will almost never be able to drag themselves out of bronze without just luckily getting decent teammates enough times in a row to climb because while they are better than the level they play at, they aren't good enough to make up for the failings of everyone else, and their individual contribution isn't strong enough to carry the team. Elo hell is not being stuck where you don't belong because your team sucks, it is being stuck where you don't belong because you are not good enough to make up for your team sucking. This entire thing is exacerbated by the devs that manage these games using their matchmaking to work towards forcing a 50/50 winrate (it has been proven this is done on purpose, and an EA Battlefield dev even admitted to it and openly explained how and why it is done, so don't bother replying just to say I'm some crazy conspiracy theorist) to extend player engagement and keep people on the grind for higher ranks.

One season I placed really low bronze and was so put off playing I went to silver and just hard quit. Tried coming back but I always place with and place in bronze now as a support main. I play Ana mostly, always willing to swap to anything that is needed. Point is I have since stopped playing ranked all together because the pain of playing anything without survivability in bronze is so incredibly painful, I couldn't bring myself to even try. Support is such a stressful role when your team doesn't communicate or work well together, because everything that goes wrong makes you feel useless. You can be the best most goated got tier healer, doesn't matter if your team is spread across the map, trickling in. It just is not fun at all. This tends to push me into playing Moira, or I end up playing a reddit lucio just to survive, I quit early on into my climb out of bronze and never came back, wasn't fun to even try. @Real_MisterSir
@Real_MisterSir Год назад
@@paranosis5460 They're all climbing though.. It's literally not hard to climb out of bronze, it just takes a specific skillset that most players stuck in bronze don't possess. Every single rank has its own requirements of what it takes to climb. Bronze and Silver are both very dependent on your mechanics and your proactiveness to force advantages before enemies have a chance to snowball a situation (usually with ults and high pick potential abilities). If you can master this combination of traits then you will get out of Bronze easy. (Notice how the enemy Ana is constantly taking shots at Intoxicated whenever there's an opening for it, constantly applying meaningful pressure, hitting solid pre-fight sleeps, etc). In middle ranks it's all about making sure you're not dying to random bs, not staggering, not taking unfavorable fights, etc - on top of whatever was required in bronze-silver. But specifically understanding timing your engages with your team and not overinvesting when you already have an advantage, is key. Diamond-Masters is all about understanding tempo and space. Knowing how to keep high tempo rolling when your team has the advantage (tempo ults etc), and knowing how to slow the enemy team's tempo at key moments (making them waste time, spend cooldowns prematurely, split their attention -and thus their collective course of action, etc). While also understanding what space you can take and give, and when it's most efficient to do one or the other, knowing what to invest where, opening angles, making sure the enemy doesn't open angles on your team, etc. The key to all elos is that there is no hell. There are just individual obstacles for each elo, and if you don't have the insight to realize what that obstacle is, then you don't deserve to climb. Because all the players in the ranks above you have passed that test and proven they have whatever basics were required from the ranks below. To get to play with good team mates, you need to prove first that you yourself are a good team mate when it comes to the very core of your gameplay that is expected as the set standard at that elo. So if you have good ability uptime and are able to follow as a support in a plat team - but you don't master the act of using your mechanics and being proactive in/before fights when needed, then you are inherently not up to the gold-plat standard baseline -nor are you likely to consistently gain sr to get out of bronze. Climbing is not kind, it's not forgiving. It doesn't judge you on your potential, nor does it judge you on your peak plays. It judges you on your ability to gain value outside of what falls naturally in your lap.

@HeroinMonster there literally is though. There are people who solo que from bronze to masters. People like to think its luck but if you cannot climb no matter what you do, then you're in the rank you belong. The system isnt sentient, it doesn't care.

i just don't know what to think, i can do better if i play with people who has a little grasp of what their are doing. But i got paired most of the time with players who doesn't know or care, people blasting music in their mic, they don't play the objective, they want to solo'd the enemy team, don't switch characters according to what's going on, and stuff like that, i mean what the hell are those guys doing in comp?

honestly its not all about how good you are its about putting the grind to climb the ranks and it takes a lot of hours man

I too was hit with the bronze bug. I was a platinum player in OverWatch one and when I did my placements I got slapped into bronze five. since then I've already climbed into silver so I don't think it's that hard to actually get out of bronze at this moment. it still sucks that bronze players will have to face now these higher ranks from Platinum to maybe even higher. what also sucks is and they admitted this was a bug and the ones affected by this don't get anything, I mean maybe like 500 comp points would have actually lessened the blow I mean I just don't think that's too much and I don't think that's too little. that would have been like a hey we're sorry kind of thing

It's a real problem. I've been playing stuck in bronze for so long I've adapted their habits. The better I play, the worse teams they put me in. I was concerned that it might just be me that is terrible so to confirm I made a second account and when I ranked I was in high gold. Anytime the season changes on this old account I'm always hard stuck in low bronze. I'm convinced blizzard hates me.

As a support player he should’ve prevented that shatter from rein. Tracking ultimates is kinda his job as sup. Valk earlier or time the slam at the last second to pop valk.

I don’t think his aim is bronze bad though. The only game sense thing I didn’t like was when he was on attack the first time, instead of using cover he sat in the open and got killed.

As a solo q kiriko main it is awful when you don’t have good dps. Especially against shield characters cause you can’t headshot them. I ranked bronze 1 after 7 games and gave up and switched to all roles. And ended up in gold3 after 7 games.
