I've used dozens of microphones for drum room mics since the 90s and I have never been satisfied and my girlfriend bought me 2 of these last year when they were on sale at Amazon and so I tried them on drum rooms and OH MY GOD!! My drums rooms now sound EXACTLY how I have always wanted them to sound, BIG FAT and ROUND with no loss of the top end like a Ribbon and not just fizz like condenser mics can do. It has all of the quality of a Ribbon without the downsides of heavy high end roll off. I need up getting 2 more for overheads and I swear for drums you can't find a better microphone.

WOW! I think it sounds close to my NT-1, and for that price I am amazed. My 1960's Shure mic is still my favourite for recording acoustic guitar. Thanks for reviewing this.

I just bought 2 of these, on clearance from GC for $60/piece. Wanted something a little more forgiving than my condensers for banjo/dobro. Cheapest mics I have in my locker. Definitely excited to try them out.

the beringer sounded clear and bright. Great on the guitar. Not a lot of bass but maybe that could be eq in. The aston sounded a bit dull. The Rode had good highs and lows and very clear. If on a budget I would go with the behringer....

Can't believe I can actually get it from an Australian store. Hooray. The C1 definitely beat it on acoustic but Aston better on vocals.

That was a great video dude! Fred was still laughing about the cats bit when I dropped him at school. 😂 I have an NT1 that I really like for vocals. I used to use it for streaming because I prefer to use that kind of mic where I don’t have to be right on it but the background noise was a problem. My studio is reasonably well soundproofed but when a lorry goes by there’s no way the NT1 isn’t going to pick up the rumble. Tried a headset, but that’s not for me so I’m using an SM58 but, I just don’t like having to be right on it when I’m speaking so…. I’m wondering about this one… it might be the very thing.

GIANT CATS 🐈 Yeah, the NT-1 is pretty much unbeatable unless you spend a LOT more on a ‘pro’ grade microphone. I really like the Element for voiceover stuff, because you get that pseudo proximity effect without needing to be right on top of it.

I definitely like the sound of the Aston better than the Beringer. I slightly preferred the sound of the Rode, but not twice as much. For budget mics, my go to for vocal is Shure SM58 and for guitar I always use SM57 and e906 blended together.

Based on sound alone the Rode NT-1 wins easily. Based on price I would go for the Aston Element. Happily, I'm NOT in the market for yet another microphone to add to my idle collection!.

I liked the Aston Element the least on the soloed acoustic guitar. I loved the Aston Element the most on the acoustic guitar once it was sitting in the mix. It sits in the mix nicer than even the NT1 imo. Thanks for making this video.

Currently looking at getting this for my first mic, as it's currently available very cheap where I live ($99AUD). I think it needs a low end shelf filter of a couple of Db, as its bass is a bit much. You can hear the high frequencies are there, but they are just drowned out by the low end. Contrast this with the Behringer you tested where the low end is conspicuously absent. I'm limited in what I can spend, as I also have to buy the interface, headphones, an XLR cable, and maybe a mic stand, as I'm just starting. I think I'd rather get a good interface and headphones, then start collecting mics when I've got some more money and I know what I'm doing.

The Aston was ‘warmed up’ like a cheap SM7B but lower quality based on the recordings. The NT1 was the most neutral, and is know to have a flat frequency response and very low noise. As time is money to many of us doing recordings (part of my job as an example), I’ll stick to an SM7B and inline preamp. I am about to buy an NT1 or possibly two for recording classical singing and strings such as solo violins where the natural tones are a critical first step, rather than rely on post processing. SM7B is good for folk and possibly rock. It’s certainly good enough for Bruce Springsteen to use on his Letter to You album which is superb. I’d consider trying the Aston with my students as I’d never let them near my SM7Bs and mixing desk. They do however like the rode usb mini and videomic go 2 as they feed directly into the rode app and are fine for their purposes. At the price point you paid for the Aston, it looks a good choice for amateur recordings or bulk buying. However the extra cost for a preamp/audio interface needs to be considered too.

But some reviews say that C-1 has a lot of self noise, which is a big no-no. So, the winner is… NT-1!

Hi there, being by no means a pro (and preparing to take all the blame), I'd rank the mikes from the NT-1 (which I own ... for a reason or two 😉) on top over the ... tadaa! ... Behringer C-1 down to the Aston Element. Unprocessed recordings considered. I assume we don't need to talk about the NT-1 and its qualities. To my untrained ears, the C-1 may lack some low end (which you would and yet better do EQ out of the mix anyway) and an overemphasized sparkle. But the Aston mike doesn't please my ears at all. It's mid-heavy (maybe due to the lack of high end). I wouldn't be able to get the sound I like out of it, but your talent should let you do the trick. I'm not talking potentials, but raw (not literally; there's nothing raw to the Røde) sound. And I am going to hold on to my NT-1. I like the looks of the Aston and its accessories, however 👍 Ah, and BTW: Thanks for the review, Patrick 🤝

I think you’ll either love or hate the sound you get from the Element. I definitely prefer how it handles vocals over acoustic guitars.

so many mic reviews don’t help w anything bc comparison sounds don’t “touch” quite. waist of time here and disservice to aston really. the mixes even sound too diff each time to compare regarding drums.
