I think whatever disaster happened was likely nuclear in some way because if you go too far from the road, you can actually hear a Geiger counter. Also, there is nothing hidden away from the road. I tried exploring off the road and that's how I discovered the Geiger counter sound towards the edge.

In the pause menu you can go back to your starter house it's called end trip it may get rid of a few items doing it but all the engines are at spawn also I have not seen another working car yet or any sort of car I can buy oh and also the end trip saves the condition of your car so it does not do anything to your car anyways sorry for the paragraph of text.

the mechanics of this with the art style of the long drive would be pretty cool... but this art style is pretty good too also the game is set in the 1980's, taking place after global warming. and uh, just reading the 'features' of the game on Steam... I definitely think it some sort of war apocalypse because that helicopter at the start of this video looks militaristic and tha camps and motels from last episode look like fortress or base camps for military personnel
