That's a very stupid idea on the local government's part. That is a tourist attraction, it draws in paying visitors, and it's worth investing in. Purely from a pragmatic standpoint.
I think so too along with also using that income to support the cats, cat cafes aren’t often to bad at least not compared to other animal cafes were the animals are suffering
@@Maxzenelexploiting animals for shortsighted profit then locking them into cages at night? These cafes are way worse than Circuses. And people complain about circuses all the time. But when you allowed to Pet the animals ita suddenly fine I guess. Its also funny this stuff is only normal in eastasia. A region known for its love for animals and history of common pet ownership lmfao. In vietnam, china, philipines and Laos you can still buy dogmeat. Go make vacationg in Shanghai the city alone has 30 such restaurants
I mean, it would depend on the cafe. If most of the cats are up for adoption, that would be a great way to run a cafe. And maybe give a permanent home to disabled cats that the average person can't take care of. This would obviously be good only if the owner of the cafe treated them right.
could work if the cafe is like an open area cafe? i dont know how to describe it maybe outdoor cafe, where the cats can roam freely and guest can feed them aswell so the little guys wont need to be caged.
@@str4wb3ri.1 some train time between 10min and lets say 2hours + 30min trip over ocean waters is too far? Did you guys enjoy your hotel rooms for 1-2 weeks or what? xD
Japan is facing a massive population decline. Many didn't move, they died. It would take a lot of work to get the city going compared to many other areas with equally abandoned infrastructures.
Soooo…they can't just employ a few people living off island to take care of the cats? If it's a 30 minute ferry, plenty of people commute far longer than that to get to word and since this place is not only world renowned but at this point it's practically a Japanese National Park. National Parks have people working there. Pretty sure all the cats really need is food and occasional medical care. Maybe water source. That they can drink from at will. Doesn't really make sense to me to just abandon a decent tourist spot just because the old people living there can't feed the cats for free for you, Japan.
@@mercwiththemouthsnewphone6798 Has nothing to do with Capitalism, and more to do with declining birth rates affecting Japan. And besides, a Socialist or Communist country wouldn't even allow this sort of thing to exist, without it somehow benefitting the State Collective. So sick of you Commies blaming everything on Capitalism, get a job and grow up, your utopian world view is an impossibility.
I get it. Having a free breeding, predatorless space was going to result in more cats than people to takw care of them. Spay/neutering also prevent cancers of the testicles and uterus on cats. They are healthier and calmer, a good way to try and ride out the last generation. Unsustainable things simply cannot last forever even if they made really good photos and videos, it's more important that theyre healthy and the ones thst are left living their best life.
Yea, best way to sustain it would be for an animal shelter to set up there that could accept overflow from other shelters as cats are getting adopted, to keep a steady population level -enough to attract tourists, and thus adopters, but not too much and become unsustainable. Cats are getting medical care and opportunity to get adopted, while tourists get to keep "cat island".
@@reno239Cats are a domesticated animal that devastate local wildlife populations. They've caused the extinction of numerous rare bird populations unique only to New Zealand to to extinct. Spay and neuter your cat and keep it indoors ffs.
@@reno239Cats are the second most destructive animal on the planet, responsible for hundreds of extinctions and with an extremely fast population growth. Without being maintained, they are a pest.
@@reno239 I'd love to see your sources for those claims, especially to see the actual rate of those potential effects, because outside of the slowed metabolism increasing risk of obesity I didn't find any support for that.* In fact, I pretty much only found positive health effects. The metabolism issue can easily be treated by monitoring their diet, and is far outweighed by reduced disease transmission, especially FeLV and FIV, bc of reduced fighting and reduced sexual contact; reduced instinct to roam lowering risk of getting injured by cars, wild animals, etc; eliminated risk of pyometra and most cancers of the reproductive organs, and reduced risk of mammary cancer - which is nearly always malignant - by 90%; eliminated risk of unwanted kittens, which reduces overpopulation of animal shelters, meaning fewer animals being euthanized simply because of lack of homes(there are MILLIONS of cats in shelters), and animals unable to give birth vaginally won't have to undergo C-sections. Did you know kittens as young as 5 months old can get pregnant? Or that cats can get pregnant even while still nursing a previous litter? Or that on average, only 1 in 4 kittens survive in the wild? These cats don't have to remain unaltered for us to maintain this "interesting and potentially economically beneficial" population. As I said in my previous comment, if an animal shelter sets up there they can accept overflow from other shelters to maintain the population level on the island, which could also save the lives of cats elsewhere that would otherwise be put down. An animal shelter would also have more expertise in caring for cats than the average person, which means the cats would be healthier and better cared for than they are now. *Upon further research I found that there can be orthopedic issues after neutering, but that's ONLY in giant breeds of dog, and can be avoided by neutering them after they're fully grown.
Another fun fact: an old man (around 98) died on this island, but the thing is that before that he used to make blogs daily at the end of his life to say how it was, got written into a book, i don't remember the name but definitely worth readibg
My job currently is caring for unadopted senior cats as well as ferals, so this would be my dream island. To be able to live there and care for so many cats who deserve love, that would be heaven to me. I hope they find someone to move in on the island to help care for them. If I had money I'd love to be able to do something like that!
I volunteer to look over them it been my dream to move somewhere where I can take care of these cutiesalso I think they also need a vet to check on there health all day
I CANT MEET THEM TILL LIKE 8 YEARS WHAT DO I DO.. i just dont wanna find out when the cats there end up vanishing cause i love cats sm and its just gonna make me cry since its been my dream to go there
more of the people died or left their so they were abandoned sadly, but more people might come soon, sadly, Idk if its true but it might be expensive to go there.
Ten un-neutered cats can still cause a population explosion considering that just two cats and their offspring can produce tens of thousands of cats in 10 years.
I’m positive that Japan will take action to this. Japan loves their cats and they know that Ao island is a big tourist attraction. I plan on visiting cat island, so I will make sure I help out. I could never think about all the cats not making it. 😓
Yeah, but then why don’t we just take a cat with them and then like every time when you donate a cat it would be like helping and I think I would also help by giving a lot of them to animal shelters and then more people can adopt them but I think I would only adopt black cats mostly Only because they’re so cute or Jack Wynn cat plus I feel bad for all of those kitties 😢
It makes me sad that these are possibly the last in a generation. I want them to continue living on that island. Perhaps have more people move there? Some people who are willing and capable of living there and taking care of the island, the homes, and the cats?
i’ll only go if i can bring my cat with me (we are emotionally attached to each other and can’t be without each other… i wish i could bring her to school with me…)
oh, Iyo-nagahama not Nagahama in Shiga, and that one cat island out of quite a few of them. There's easier ones to go visit. Tashirojima not far from Sendai. Ainoshima(相島) in Fukuoka from Shingu port and Ainoshima(藍島) from Kokura in Kitakyushu (2 places, very similar names, different kanji). Sanagijima from Tadotsu. Even Enoshima is considered a cat island.
Bro did not listen to the video💀💀 The island is most likely going to be vacant soon, so I think they aren’t allowing the cats to mate because the population is literally declining with the human population on the island.
I WISH I could live there. I absolutely adore cats. The fact that when I was a university student, they were my stress relievers. Just being around them is nice enough. We had a university cat who we found in our first year. As engineering students, carpentry was no big deal so we (group of 3 friends) built him a home and named him Zoro. We paid the security to buy food for him when we weren't around.
I’m actually okay with this. Yeah it’s sad, but those cats have actually been living in poor health for a long time. And there’s only so much that the locals can do for them. Their population has grown to unstable numbers over the years, and it’s taking a toll on them. All good things must come to an end
Honestly they should have done the things that multiple other Islands do where they ask people to go to that island and if they do they get some free stuff for money to live there of course for this place you would have to feed the cats play I feel like people would still live there
@@CTzons Never said Japan was a successful country I said a declining birthrate is a SIGN of a successful country, not every case of it means a country is successful
@@Rosaline420 A nation needs atleast a 2-2.7 percent birthrate per person to maintain a stable population, If we take your logic which is "less people=more success" then china's one child policy is a success even though it now made china have a population crisis and took away the freedom of many people (which you guys in politics love)
yeah obviously it might be the last generation they neutered almost all of them (why would they do that it'll just make the cat population decline until theres only those ten cats children i think its stupid)
Dude 😂 you won't believe ❌ my mom allowed me to keep a cat I mean a kitten 😅 🐾 she / he hasn't arrived yet but ✨ Ya she / he will come tomorrow ( It was my dream )I will become a cat parent it is 5 days old please your channel is my favourite ( ❤❤❤ please give some tips about 5 days old kitten and how to just feed it and everything 💘 ✨✨✨✨✨✨ PLEASE DON'T IGNORE THIS COMMENT ITS MY BIRTHDAY I AM NOW 11 YEAR OLD NOW 🎉🎉🎉🎂🎂🎈🎈🎈✨✨✨✨
5 days old is way to soon to leave mom. If mom really isnt around you will need to provide heat source and feed and stimulate to go potty. If you meant 5 weeks then thats still too young to leave mom. Weaning is around that time i believe and you will still need to provide a heat source as they can thermoregulate better but not the best. Fading kitten syndrome is around a few days to few weeks when they can quickly go downhill if not cared for fully so be watchful and weigh regularly especially during weaning. If you meant 5 months then no need to worry. A pair of kittens is better than a single one, two can play together and hopefully bond. They will scratch and bite less as they have eachother for play fighting and they can groom eachother. Kittens that grew up together normally end up being bonded and better socialised so if you get another cat in the future they will be more likely to get on well. Do not feed kittens whiskas and felix, they are extremely low in meat content and when my kittens came here the whiskas caused loose stools which can cause bad dehydration in kittens, switching to a higher meat content food will help them have shinier coats, more solid stools, and will give them more energy. I recommend joining facebook groups of kitten owners for more advice. Kitten milk is a good drink for them, my two love it. It will need vaccinations, flea treatment and deworming and then neuturing as soon as possible. I do not recommend letting your kitten out at all, especially as leads and harnesses are more widespread now. If you do, however, let it out it must be after neuturing microchipping and vaccinations are all complete. Try brushing fur and teeth when young as it helps for when older. Dont give toys of string/wool as it can cause intestinal issues if swallowed. Wand toys with string to attach toy is fine though. Buy dog poo bags for cleaning out the litter tray, and gloves aswell. I got my two at about 8 weeks old maybe a few days before. 8-12 weeks is when they are ready to leave. My two are both female and they are very bonded always playing together and they very very rarely bite and scratch during play, mainly ever on accident. Please if possible get two rather than one. Good luck with your kitten!
Also if you arent sure on gender around 6 weeks for males the testicIes start to descend. If you want more information look at kitten lady on youtube she explains all about kittens and kitten care. 5 day olds need syringe or bottle feeding preferably syringe as you should monitor their weight after every feeding multiple times a day, youll have to wake up overnight for feeds aswell. Eyes open around 7 days and ears unfold. Kitten lady on youtube is a very good way to learn more
