The local stonemasons and builders were and possibly still are kept busy with all the fantastic architectural structures! The Italians certainly have style, plus they really do honour the deceased with some amazing creations! Thanks for giving us an insight into this cultural tribute to the dead!
@@tomhirons7475 Assolutamente no. Poggioreale è un caso unico. Questo è un Paese che mantiene intatto il culto dei morti dall'epoca classica. Informati meglio.
"these bodies now lie in a temporary Mausoleum"[update description] , not a Columbarian A columbarium also called a cinerarium, is a structure for the reverential and usually public storage of funerary urns holding cremated remains of the dead. A mausoleum is an external free-standing building constructed as a monument enclosing the burial chamber of a deceased person or people.
"In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread Till you return to the ground, For out of it you were taken; For dust you are, And to dust you shall return.” Genesis 3:19
Hi Dan, I feel so awful because of the state of disrepair this cemetery is in. Were there really that many bodies that fell out of the collapsed building that they have no place to put them except under heavy plastic, out in the open air, in wood or concrete containers? How old was that demolished building? It is almost too much to take in. I wish you could go to Positano and see how they bury their dead on the side of a mountain. It is is all slightly bizarre. Thanks for showing us this incredible country's burial sites! ♥️🙏☘️
I cant for the life of it understand why people want to be buried in these massive mausoleum buildings. Its fascinating to watch but if everybody gets buried this way, at some point the earth is getting full with these cemetary cities. Each to their own, but cremation for me. The more I watch videos like this the stronger this wish gets.
@@AnnaMaria-zm8cv It would take a long time for the earth to be full of them, but it sure is a shame to let such things crumble into ruins after so much time and effort was spent building them. In any castle the planet's surface is chock full of the remains of organic life forms. Whenever you dig up a fossil that's just what is left.
Cool vid, sad to see this place in such a state :( also shame the video wasnt longer..just as you get into the atmosphere and all, the video ends excited to see whats more to come Dan!!
@@E-s.thoughts that’s your interpretation. Bodies lying out in the open & crumbling tombs is disturbing and not anything I’ve seen before or would want for my family. The Italians are supposed to be all about family!
@@WaynesPokeWorld yes, that's my interpretation. Some of those mausoleums collapsed not so long ago and that is the result. Sad, but those things happen, but they are working hard to fix it (probably a money problem why things are going so slowly). What I can say is that it doesn't make me feel like it would be "terrifyingly disturbing" at all, because I don't believe in ghosts and because as a photographer/camerman I'm drawn to unusual places! To give some values to some words; disturbing and horrible I saw in the "Horn of Arfrica" where children are dying of hunger!! I certainly don't have that feeling in an old cemetery, on the contrary, it is a beacon of peace!
I read online that this had happened in October 2022 and it was the second time that year they had had such a collapse, the first being in the January. There had been various people and agencies blamed but it doesn't look like they're really trying to get anything sorted out about it does it? Such as shame, as I doubt the columbarium niches will have been cheap and they were probably very heavily pushed onto grieving families as the future way to store their loved ones remains or something.
Columbarium? A columbarium is for ashes in urns, not coffins. Unless there were fresh internments of bodies in coffins, I wouldn't think that there would be a smell from all the stacked boxes. They are under shelter, so it's not like they are going to get wet.
I agree. I couldn’t figure out why there were full sized coffins in a columbarium. Ashes don’t smell bad. When DGW got sick in that one area that he had to rush out and felt like he would throw up, that puzzled me too. I’m confused. 🤔
Do the cemeteries not have a maintenance program to clean up the tree debris? Surely the families are not expected to do it, as they clearly are not managing to keep up with the markers and crypts. (I am sure there are some where no one is left to care for them, thereby pointing out the need for caretakers).
Hi Dan! My birth family hails from Italy. Love watching your videos here in Nashville TN. I am curious on what caused the collapse of the columbarium. Please be safe.
What is going to happen to all the bodies in wooden coffins under the tent? What can they possibly do with so many? Does anyone know? Will they eventually cremate them? The smell would keep me away from this place. The odors must be unbareable. Thank you for the videos of this place. You are a strong and brave person to video this!!! 🤢
That's just awful. So much space dedicated to dead bodies...and not even buried to return to the earth, just left above ground to rot. I find it revolting although I'm sure they don't see it that way (and yes I know there are religious reasons for it, but still...yuck).
I find it confusing that people would spend so much money on a burial only to have it crumble over time 🤔🤔😲😲 lt is so disrespectful to have bodies sitting there with no place to lay them to rest. So much for rip
I'd say they were majority covid victims in those boxes. Italy was hit earlier than most European countries and hit hardest as well. It came in so fast, they had trouble to bury them all. My neices family there had to find the crypt of their ancestors from the 1800 and 1900s and use the empty spaces in there for their 5 family members who died. It was a two hour drive there from their town, but at least they got a decent burial.
Just a thought that ocurred to me. 100 years from now people will watch these videos and read our comments... We will be no different than those buried in there.
In Europe they respect the dead in America cemeteries are t kept up and desecrated ask yourself who has more respect for the dead not this country shame RIP to all luv🎉🎉❤❤❤❤❤
Sad that they’re temporarily displaced. This is why I plan to be cremated. I’ll require less space and upkeep. If you’re smelling bad smells, it’s likely due to drainage issues. None of these bodies would still have odors.
