The reason this TV is so cheap, is because TCL are a massive Chinese company. They are highly vertically integrated, and manufacturer almost all the parts themselves. They have their own LCD and OLED panel manufacturer called CSOT who are a major manufacturer and supplier to others, including Samsung and Sony. They also bought Samsung's Chinese LCD factory and patents. They are now negotiating with LG to buy theirs as well. Along with Hisense, they are trying to disrupt the TV industry in the same way the Koreans disrupted the Japanese manufacturers. Who disrupted all the old UK and European TV manufacturers.

Some of the old European TV brands are mostly still around, Philips is still going strong albeit under new ownership but still in the Netherlands, Bang Olufsen is still catering to rich people, as are Loewe, even Metz and grundig are still around. The Japanese or more accurately Sony and Panasonic are still making the best TVs if not the best selling. The US brands though were gone 30 years ago.

They're well made but got a lot of firmware/software issues. Got the c835 mini led that force updates even if you turn updates off and breaks important features like hdr, dolby vision, vrr and surround sound

@@AlvinAlsace That's an older model 2021 or 2022 isn't it? Does that mean your not happy with it and wouldn't buy one again? I think both Hisense and TCL have improved a lot over the last few years. The 2023 c845 (previous model to this c855) was very highly rated by a lot of reviewer's and sites. The c805 is also highly rated. So I'm expecting this c855 to also be highly rated.

@@AlvinAlsace have you checked Avforums or general search for fixes or info? That's an older model, is it still getting updates?

Yeah, during the mid year sales they were both same price but I still went tlc, looked better, better specs and has everything I wanted like Dolby vision unlike samsung

according to TCL, where it oversees “all stages of mini-LED backlight development, from R&D to design, to small-scale trial production. that explain the price sense they manufacture everything

My only real concern is about viewing angles. Since this has a VA panel, if you don't sit relatively in the middle, you'll start to notice colors and contrast issues. This can be especially problematic for larger screens, as the edges of the screen are farther from you. Anyway, my question is: How are the viewing angles on this model?

Great run through Sam, which model in 55inch would be closest to it? 👍

The previous years model the c845k or c805 (c755) comes in a 55". The smallest c855 is 65".

TCL has become my favorite TV brand. I have 5 of them ranging from entry level models up to their 8k flagship from a couple years ago and I like them all. Sony is overpriced, Samsung has uniformity issues, Hisense has pretty bad dark smear in games with their VA models. TCL is in that Goldilocks zone where they do just about everything well (or at the very least satisfactory) and there's nothing overly annoying about them. TCL TV's are very well-rounded and I agree they are an excellent value.

I have 75" version, really good, dolby vision movies and in gaming via PC no lag 144Hz gaming, but at least sound bar is needed onboard audio is "nice" but not good, google tv is good operating system, better than LG or Samsung ones i used to have.

i got two of the last years models 845k (2000nits) and they come with eco mode enabled, which lowers the brightness tremendously, you just turn off the eco mode and you are good to go.
