You’re right. It’s scary how toxic China’s netizens are. I wasn’t his fan when this incident happened. I barely knew him! But I knew no Chinese is so stupid as to go to such a controversial place knowingly. So I did some research and true enough, Yasukuni Shrine is located at a tourist hot spot with multiple entrances, most of them without any signages. And as another commenter said, there is a lot more to unpack. The whole thing was blown out of proportion due to active interference from his competitors. It unfortunately caught the attention of the state media, which jumped on the bandwagon criticising him without investigation. That was the nail in the coffin.
I think, evil people were jealous, or who know what else was bothering them , and desperately wanted to destroy him. He filmed an interesting report about his recent bike ride through the mountains.

Zhehan hadn't done anything wrong. He was literally pushed into the abyss because of his better performance in WOH than his co-star Gong Jun and his co-star is the one paying his fans to ruin Zhehan. A good and honest man who survived the ordeal is now doing very well with his self written songs, always topping the iTunes charts. His concerts are well accepted in Thailand, Malaysia and Hong-Kong. His next invited concert will be in Taiwan and support from all over the world is overwhelming.

You missed the content from the person who supported him, who was very vocal and I’m not sure what has happened to him. He was someone important in the industry and he questioned the position the China Association of Performing Arts had to blacklist him. He pointed out that the Association was not aligned with the Chinese government. He also found a popular tourist book that has been available in China that listed the Shrines that Zhang Zhehan had visited as places to visited. This particular publication has been used and referred to in China for many years. After he raised this disparity the publications all disappeared. Also it took a year for police to accept that Zhang Zhehan had a case for fraud. I’ve not seen anymore about these aspects of the case. Thankfully Zhang Zhehan has moved beyond the dark days. But it would be good to see him back in his field…he is an excellent actor. It would also be good to see who actually perpetrated the original accusations.
Just a bit of clarification…Zhehan didn’t visit the shrine. He was in a tour, organized by an acquaintance of another costar, and was visiting the cherry blossom trail recommended by that tourist book, followed by all other tourists from China and other countries. But that was twisted into “Zhang Zhehan visited that shrine”.
An important note: many ppl visited that shrine, including a much more famous actor/director Jiang Wen visited there years before him, but back then the netizens were not that influential and the state medias were not that clicks "volume" driven. Back then the state media defended Jiang Wen and classified that ordinary Chinese cannot pay their respects (朝拜）the shrine, also said every Chinese should visit it to learn about the history. The thing with China, when someone is cancelled/punished, it's not about what he/she did, it's about who he/she is or who wants him/her to be punished. Thanks for doing a story about ZheHan, though there are a few points are not quite right, like: the building behind him in the cherry blossom pics is clearly not the shrine in the later pic, it's a guest centre inside this huge open park; the shrine he attended friend's wedding was promoted in China as the romantic shrine to hold weddings, even the Japanese girl band who is named after the shrine was very popular in China and back then no one's feeling was hurt. Why? Because they are not Zhang ZheHan, when you are targeted in China, every step you take is a red line, every breath you take is wrong.
He is doing very well in his singing career now, as the saying goes “ when god closes a door, he opens a window” so maybe he is destined for a musical career instead of an actor.
