I have wondered for a long time why churches don’t utilize their properties to support their communities and congregation. Any place having a food pantry or serving hot meals to those who are in need should be using local backyard food grown by volunteers

Now we need to have the Government subcontract some of this local land wasting away to people so they can grow food and sell it locally. Would cut huge on the carbon footprint and create tons of jobs. An app connecting vacant landowners with agricultural contractors to work their lots for a percent of the profits through smart contracts would be awesome too.
@paultaylor6178
@paultaylor6178 5 лет назад
You REALLY want our Wonderful GOVERNMENT involved? Which COMMITTEE will hold the first hearing? How long do you think it would take OUR Congress to get get the FIRST seed planted? How many trillion would it cost? Think about it. I think this is a Great project for PEOPLE. Please don't let OUR Government MESS IT UP.
@justaddmusclecom
@justaddmusclecom 5 лет назад
Paul Taylor Government would not plant or do anything, simply they would allow local farmers to use the land and get a cut or a tax out of the profits. Pretty simple business model, the government gets paid for unused land, local people can buy local produce grown by people from their local community, they can establish a relationship with the food again, how its grown, who grew it. We would cut huge carbon footprints on produce coming from overseas, and would create tons of new jobs and income. Also a private company to create an app so private land owners can put their properties up for lease to farmers for a cut of the profits. Rate it on an honor system like angies list or trip advisor it a farmer does bad business or a land owner, they get rated and can be pushed out of the system for doing bad business. There is millions of acres of land across the country that could be used. Here in Florida in a 1/4 acre yard we are growing 60-70% of the food we eat. No reason why it could not be done on a larger scale with the technology and tools we have today.

Just sharing --- Feeding Families of Alabama has helped thousands locally and around the state Hartselle woman opens church and home to people in need | April 19, 2019 at 11:37 AM CDT HARTSELLE, AL (WAFF) - Feeding Families is a nonprofit organization in Hartselle that focuses on assisting people in need.Founder, Edee Grun, has dedicated her life to helping others in the community. “I started off with $10 in my pocket and God by my side, and that’s it. It has grown and grown and grown,” Grun said.It started years ago when a homeless family knocked on Grun’s door in the middle of the night.“From there it became an every night thing, and so I went back into trying to supply food to the ones who came and needed help," Grun continued. She says she’s not able to sleep knowing there’s a child out there that doesn’t have anything to eat.Hartselle local Brandon Johnson, one of Grun’s volunteers, never thought he would need Grun’s help. One day, he lost his job and felt lost in the world.“A lot of people are living paycheck to paycheck, and I’ve lived paycheck to paycheck. Even when I didn’t have a paycheck, Edee always made sure I had food,” Johnson said.Johnson says Grun even went above and beyond to cook his favorite meals.Grun has continued to help her community, even when she herself was struggling the most.“I raised my children alone, as a single parent, and it was hard. I had two biological children, I adopted a daughter, and then I raised 11 foster children," Grun said.To say Grun has done it all, is an understatement.“It was always a struggle to feed them, but after I got them grown and I thought everything’s gonna be okay, I ended up with pancreatic cancer,” Grun explained.She fought cancer, her own hunger, her family’s hunger, and still put time into her community.“I post a wish list every week, and there’s several in the community that are regular donators and there’s some that bring it when they can afford to,” Grun says.Grun says Feeding Families has surpassed the growth she expected, so now, she plants to take it one step further.After two years of hard work, Grun is finally opening the Feeding Families Community Garden.“We want this to be a self-sustaining garden, and we intend to keep our seeds year after year,” she says.Ten acres of community love and community food. Right in the heart of Hartselle.Johnson says it’s not just about this community here in Hartselle.“She’s helping people in all the surrounding communities too,” Johnson said.
