@gen This is something that weirded me out for a long time and I am not sure if this is only in San Francisco but all the big stores in there doesn't have security unless it's a mall. So, in Philippines, we do have security guards and the more valuable the place, the more packed with security it is. A bank, for example, normally has two guards and another inside roaming. In a Seven Eleven, there's normally 1 guard on the door. Most of the time, they just are there to open the door and log in important people but they are still security as in they have guns. In food chains, normally, there's security guards. Mang inasal, Jollibee, KFC, Kentucky, etc. Even inside the mall, they have a separate security guards. My point is, why are big names like Walgreens don't have security guards? Even the clothing and jewelry stores don't have ones. Having security doesn't mean the place is so dangerous that they need to have security 8-5pm but rather, they are there IN CASE something happened.

He said if he gets a job paying a good enough amount (I’m assuming he means about what he gets stealing cars). If it’s a nice amount, then he’ll never stop. Even if you have a STEM or Law Degree, you don’t start off making bank. It takes time and work to build a career and to have a larger income. Hell most people who reach a million net worth don’t get there until their 40s/50s and had to do the work themselves. I feel some of these people are just too addicted to the fast cash of crime. It’s not easy leaving poverty, but it takes so much more work and education; many aren’t willing to do the work or don’t think they are capable.
@tbomb2265
@tbomb2265 4 месяца назад
@@coya8coy175glad you added that many just don't feel capable. So many people feel from an early age like they're outcasts in todays world. They struggled in school, might not have a work ethic, they truly think they can't fit in with normal society. So they resort to petty (nonviolent) crime. Needs to be other options for people who aren't capable of being cogs in the Machine. People make it sound simple but it takes a good amount of self restraint and perseverance to do things the "right" way. I know the vast majority of people do it but it's still special in my opinion. A 9 to 5 job, apartment, family with 2 kids would be an incredible achievement for some of these people. Basically, I feel that some of these people have lost their ability/desire to fit in with a normal society and the shoplifting and open air drug use is almost an affront to society itself. It's antisocial behavior.

Example: Tube of toothpaste is normally $2, so raise it to $1,001, and when someone takes it to the register to pay you give them a $999 store discount reducing the price back to $2. But if someone steals it, it's a violation of the law because it tech. cost over the legal requirement of $1,000 to be a crime.

He's doing good, taking a stance/picking a side would be more fatal for his content, if he wants to stay neutral. He surely has his own opinion on all the matters he covers, but that's not for you to know. They all are, conservatives hate cities. 46% of liberals like big cities, 4% of conservatives do. If you look up the most conservative city, it's Jackson Mississippi, but that doesn't automatically meant that they follow conservative policy or ideology, and the vast majority of the population is black, so I wouldn't even know how to compare them with a progressive city. I'd diagnose the issue as cosmopolitan populations just being sick in the head in comparison to the average american, and that large cities atomize people to the point that no common culture or community can be created among insanely diverse populations. If you want a high trust culture in a city, you're going to need a lot harder enforcment of law and order than you would for a smaller town or village. I visited San Francisco recently. Here is what I saw even in the most tourist heavy areas. 1. A pedestrian stepping in human shit. 2. A homeless woman urinating on a street corner in front of everyone. 3. Homeless people sleeping behind bus stops and even a homeless camp (3-4 tents) set up right on Pier 39 on the large sidewalk area. 4. China town shop owner fined for not cleaning the trash up on the sidewalk near their store. The shop owner doesn't even own the sidewalk, the city does. 5. Meth addicts walking around Pier 39 begging for money. Not help, not food or water, only money. 6. Street vendors selling food, alcohol, and weed without any licenses. Can we say Hepatitis central! 7. Public transportation smelled horrible. 8. Many malls and shopping strips completely vacated all around the city. I asked a couple police officers at Pier 39 if they were allowed to help get things cleaned up. I was told that they wish they could do something, but Mayor Breed has said if they tried that the officers would no longer have a job.

I'm not trying to be disagreeable just for the sake of it but pinning crime on poverty is wrong. There's a whole lot of poor people that work their asses off every day to feed their families and keep on keeping on. Commiting crimes like this has nothing to do with being poor and all about the lack of moral standards. It makes me mad that people even consider linking crime to poverty because it drops all the responsibility off the shoulders of people that are not fit to live in society and at the same time shames every poor person that drops blood, sweat and tears every day to keep their lives and our society in place.

This situation seems like a risk vs reward issue. Lack of enforcement has pushed criminality too far to the reward side. There are people that would normally not participate in this type of crime if there were serious consequences. It really bothers me that holding people accountable on crime is pushed politically as a "conservative" way of thought in order to persuade their party followers it isn't a viable option. Folks, its okay not to agree 100% with the party you affiliate with. Don't fall for that trap. Unfortunately this is also a peer pressure issue as well. If all your friends are planning a flash rob, its a tough decision to do the right thing and risk that status/friendship. Especially with them in your ear "Bro, its so easy! You won't even get a slap on the wrist!"
@theredyeti502

Yeah, i'm just saying, the banality of someone heavy on drugs being in a store juxtaposed with a journalist finding out whether a city is having major issues, the irony is not lost on me. It mightve been a freak occurance, but it's not common in healthy cities to have people potentially on salt flaitling around in a store like it's nothing. But him being there points to this being a very common occurance, and with common interactions with people on drugs, there is adjacence to criminal behavior... mental illness, drug abuse, and cirminality are a trifecta that mesh well together.. So i'm just saying you have a likely symptom walking in the second this brand new starry eyed store owner says that he hasn't experienced any issues yet. I lived in the Tender Loin back in the 90's . I also lived in the Mission District of SF. It was dangerous, but not out of control. Homelessness was nothing like they say it is now. I never had a serious problem the two years I lived in SF. Some close calls, and the main reason I left the area. However I wouldn't want to live there now.

I’m living in Calgary in Canada and every year we have a 2 week event that is like mardi graw which the 1.6 million pop city doubles the population and during the event anyone who is homeless is rounded up before hand by about a month and put in jail so the visitors come and feel safe and spend money here

I’m from Australia and visited SF for the first time in June 2023 and my 3rd time in the USA, I was shocked at the state of SF. My car rental got broken into and things stolen, police couldn’t do anything as soon as they crossed the city boundary. Not to say Australia doesn’t have theft, but nothing close to what is happening in SF.

This got me crying 😭😭. I'm in Nigeria and my dad wants me to move to Canada and it's so weird for me because I just decided I'd never move to the US because of how things are looking. It's sad to see that people are suffering so much everywhere, even in the country of our dreams. That boy who had been into car theft since he was 15 hit me hard 😭😭 I'm over here with my degree and job that I got at 20(I'm 22 now and my dad even got me the job). My cousin who's 19 is in the university and she has a boyfriend,which is bad based on our values and standards as Christians in Nigeria. What's scary for me is that she doesn't have much at home but she gets money and gifts from him and I feel like she's going depend on him and other men to get by. I don't want her learning to be mooching of men at this age, girls who do that have died at the hands of these boyfriends. I can barely help, so I can't even say anything to her😢😢 it's so frustrating to know that I'd be moving around with some men I don't really like (sugar daddies) just to get by if I didn't have a job. May God help us all.

I’ll say that this is mostly the cities of the US. And pretty much the entire state of California. But if you look at cities like Philidelphia, New York City, New Orleans, St Louis, they are all recognized to be relatively dangerous. But the outskirts of cities tend to be fine. Canada will have the same setup. Their cities won’t be safe either but around the city is usually fine.

As a person who’s been in SF frequently and is in the Bay Area. It’s still confusing when people come and say they wanna live in the city cuz it’ll be “cool”. But don’t know the crime rates. Especially with car thefts. But hopefully people watch this and know this before moving to SF. not what it used to be

New York City passed the law as similar as San Francisco - shoplifting under $1000 is not a crime. How about robbing people? This kind of law is to punish the behaved group only. This is how ridiculous 😮

I live 30 minutes north of San Francisco - they’re locking things up here in the smaller towns too. I went to Micheal’s crafts and everything was locked up. I went next door to petco and all the flea medicine had been jacked. Just empty boxes on the shelves that were still trashed when I went back a couple of days later. It’s disheartening and frightening to see how casually society seems to be collapsing before our eyes

At first, harsh criticism rose up in me when I was hearing the car jacker speak but my heart was softened when I looked my own life. I did illegal work I wasn’t proud of for 9 years but by the grace of God, my life now is nothing like what it used to be. Smoked weed for 15 years and it stopped in about 10 days. Haven’t gone back and I don’t consider going back to crime. I’m no better than the car jacker. The change in my life was just grace. I was just presented with a different option at a time when I was out of answers and I was willing to give Jesus a try. This video has moved my heart to pray for that man but also for the country as we all figure our way through life.

Proving rehabilitation should be a requirement to ever get out of prison, imo. That would require a rigorous system that attempts rehabilitation though, which we'll never get. We love recidivism here. It's a good business

It is a complicated topic and my first thought is to add more police, but the sad thing is they can do nothing either. They can prosecute them, they can't catch them when they run away like sonic, not to mention that they dont steal enough to warrant arrest. Then there was also the mention of police funneling drugs back on the streets. Tenderloin seems to got over it. It took some years in prison and being able to get some education for them to turn for the better. For the car thief, who buys those cars. I mean seriously, 3 cars per week and there are probably multiple people that steal them, who are they selling the cars to? Or all the other stolen items. The bar to be charged with theft needs to be lowered. And instead of sending them to jail, community service like cleaning up streets, gardening, shelter work, maybe even work in food . But first you'd probably need to get rid of substance abuse.
@Patson20
@Patson20 9 месяцев назад
Police are dealing drugs because they are literally not allowed to do their jobs. If you demonize police, tie their hands when it comes to enforcing the law, cut their budgets, disarm the population, and destory the community all you're left with is a bunch of armed trained dudes with guns aka a gang.
