Little Rock, AR has one taxi company, and it’s illegal to start another one.
Little Rock’s government has completely forgotten that the right to choose which taxi to hire belongs to customers, and the government does not get to make this choice for them. Yet that is exactly what the Little Rock’s government is doing by intentionally providing a monopoly to the only taxi company in town.

It's sad how few people realize that this was exactly what the term monopoly was invented to describe; special government permission to have no competition.

No local government should be allowed to give any business (big or small) in any industry any kind of monopoly. Doesn't matter if its in taxis or telecommunications or tow trucks.

I live in city where the taxis are regulated for safety but there are no medallions. Anyone passing a criminal background check can run as many taxis as they want. The result: when called a taxi arrives in minutes. They're affordable, clean and the driver is well dressed. Competition makes this possible. What city is it: Đà Nẵng, Việt Nam. A Communist country has less regulations than the vast majority of US cities.

What do you expect from Clintonville ? Sue the city board for racketeering and demand to see the books and their validation. It will be interesting to see how much money is being fed back to the board/board members,
