Genuine question why dont basketball players take defense seriously unless it’s the end of the game and the score is close
@kathrynsparks1665
@kathrynsparks1665 Год назад
not that it’s not taken seriously it’s that real hoppers look at it like u have to play defense if u gonna get on the court u need that dog in u so it goes under appreciated is all it’s expected to play defense u should know how to do it

It's mostly the more offensively productive players, they have to save some energy to score.

It’s all an energy bar, as you’re coming up the floor or down the floor you get a small rest window. I’m in very good shape and play baskeball back to back pickup games twice a week and run on Wednesday and sundays. Sometimes dedicating your energy to offense and playing a little more laxed on defense is okay depending on your team composition. Same thing can be said just the opposite for offense. It takes a ton of energy to get though picks and off the ball screens and defend someone without fouling. But when it’s close you don’t wana lose so you push yourself to muscle failure 🤷‍♂️

because of 2 big things 1. NBA is literally a scripted TV show. + Points + likely to see + enough defense but not to much on some situations are better than a whole defensive game at least to see every day as NBA is. 2. They are Athletes but they also are TV Superstars so they need to keep their body healthy with injurys thats why they don’t make risky dunk unnecessary or risky defensive plays in the whole match that’s literally why NBA is low defense as you can see the AllStar games have -0 defense

@@sagi36that’s a terrible excuse considering the game is less physical, freedom of movement rules, and spacing all makes it EASIER TO SCORE. Lol people just don’t care about Defense bc their favorite players don’t care about defense. It’s a different mentality. There was a time if you weren’t a respectable defender you really wouldn’t get Playing time like that. You’d be a bench player. Nowadays it’s ok to be terrible defensively as long as you’re great offensively

They do this drill but STILL don’t know how to box out - let me explain it - when the shot goes up, FIRST find an opponent to box out and keep your body in front of them, and don’t look at the ball until it hits the rim. These guys? Half box out but then stare at the hoop like a traffic cone, which make it easy for opponents to step around or tap ball back out.

Thank you! The ball value is a good point as well. Nothing worse than bad shots or turnovers

This is basketball. It’s a great drill for stamina. Go 100% , it forced players to be physical use their fundamentals and be creative. When implementing this into 5v5 it’s critical to have stamina, fundamentals and to be physical.

This is a Big 10 school. I’d think they’d know how to play basketball.
