This concept skyscraper could hang from an asteroid

A New York design firm called Clouds Architecture Office has proposed a tower that would hang from an asteroid 31,068 miles above Earth.
The Analemma Tower would be the tallest building ever made. The plans say it would be powered by solar panels and those panels would constantly be exposed to sunlight.
It would travel thousands of miles every day between the Northern and Southern hemispheres in a figure-of-eight loop.
The idea seems pretty impossible but Nasa has scheduled an asteroid relocation mission for 2021, "which aims to prove the feasibility of capturing and relocating an asteroid.”

Even carbon nanotubes aren't strong enough to hook single cable into space. Let alone whole building.

The center of mass on that thing is in low Earth orbit, meaning it'll have to move so fast the end inside the atmosphere will be going MANY times the speed of sound. The atmospheric drag would flip it around something fierce, inevitably ripping the thing to shreds and sending the larger remaining pieces into a frantic spin.

The orbital dynamics and differential gravitational forces would not allow for this structure to tether to an asteroid in GEO orbit. Even if the structure could sustain the forces, the asteroid/sky scraper would decay from orbit. At the very least, the center of mass would need to be at GEO, making the skyscraper at least twice as long, and in the process render the mass of the asteroid negligible, unless it were truly massive. Not to mention, that thing would be crossing through all other orbit classes and would surely be pummeled by other orbiting objects due to the velocity differentials. This is why the space elevator can't work. Ugh.

That is a heck of a lot more ambitious than a space elevator and would require getting a staggering amount of resources into orbit. Given that it seems to have similar issues I propose we start work on space elevator and a Dyson swarm which would at least be useful. ;-)

How would you actually get to the building or get out?

The asteroid would eventually collide into earth especially with a fu**in skyscraper hanging that far in earth's gravitational field.

Apr 7, 2017 - In the Gundam series, the Orbital Elevator only appears in the Anno Domini timeline setting. It provides transportation from Earth to space and vice versa and also transports solar energy to the planet's surface to power the entire world, earning it the nickname "Solar Elevator".

if the asteroid was in orbit pulling this thing then the building would literally desintigrate in the atmosphere in a matter of seconds because its traveling at hypersonic speeds in the atmosphere

Its 2022 now so I'm guessing that asteroid relocation thing never happened cause I'm pretty sure I would've heard about something like that

It looks awesome, it sounds awesome (except for the asteroid part)... It's something nice to think about. But I doubt it'd be possible to build it. We shouldn't even try, it spells "catastrophe" all overit.

first of all this would not work very well. The air resistance that the skyscraper will experience will slow it down. This slow down will cause the skyscraper to fall back down to earth. You would have to a rocket engine running all the time in order to keep it in space.

This is just a new spin on the space elevator idea. We need much stronger materials before it will be possible. "But Nasa has an asteroid relocation mission in 2021" - you say that like it makes this feasible, but relocating the asteroid is the easy part.

And even the space elevator thing is idiotic, because _every satellite in existence_ would hit it. *Every. Single. One.*

It's down the hall, past the failed art design projects, take a left, and head right through the art degrees room. If you see anyone with a real job, you've gone too far. Oh and don't forget to bring oxygen and sunscreen with you--there's no breathable air out there! The fire exit is crammed with smoker art students, and they are very reflective.

Here's the thing I watched this video and I had a dream about it...though I was in New York City in my dream I was at a mall and saw the building fully built and it wasn't connected to an asteroid instead there was this teleporting thing in the sky and then it somehow started creating more teleporting holes and the winds stared to increase... Edit: I don't live in NYC but I would love to,like I said it was a dream

Graphen and nanotechnologies can do it, but it's so expensive to build any building, today maybe money around the world is not enought to build very small skyscraper
