Disclaimer: In our Home Defense series, Jason in not teaching laws or tactics. Jason is showing how he runs scenario based training for him and his family with the mindset of his state laws, with the understanding that even following state laws you can be prosecuted in the court of law.
In addition, Jason is walking you through the concepts a SEAL would use in these situations. You must identify your capabilities and understand the risks at hand before you can be effective.
-----
In this video Jason comes home to find a truck in his garage with no one present and the doors open. What would you do?!
In the state of Texas you have the legal right under Penal Code 9.41 to use “force” to protect you property. This does not support lethal force however in the video during my “force” the intruders pulled guns on me which then turns into self defense of myself inside my home while removing via force.

@SilverSurvival

I think there’s a valuable rule here, and he touches on it pretty hard: If something is not worth dying for, it’s not worth killing for. The person wouldn’t be threatening your life, if you weren’t actively hunting him. In this scenario, as he said, the best course of action is to call 911 and record what’s happening. If a family member is in the house, it’s a different story…

@@GodsWordNotMines yes many cameras everywhere you are correct but the crooks/intruders could of brought it with them 🤔 just saying….. As of recent estimates, there are approximately 393 million civilian-owned firearms in the United States. This number is based on various sources, including surveys, firearms production data, and registration records. However, it's important to note that estimating the exact number of guns in the country can be challenging due to factors such as “UNregistered” firearms and changes in ownership over time. You need to know a guy who knows a guy that knows a guy and so on 😂….but I think those numbers are much lower than reality. If you’re from the country you know where to go. Godbless ✌🏼

In SA there's no such thing, you call the cops and you would wait for 1 or 2 days for them to arrive, by that time robbers would have cleared your home out completely and only leave you with the walls, but then again if you approach the criminals you're also not allowed to shoot them unless they shoot you first, as ridiculous as that seems, it's the unfortunate truth. In SA you have to be battling for your life before you can defend yourself and the gun laws and justice system is so messed up,corrupt and flawed that you cannot even own a firearm yet criminals are given ARs and all sorts of firearms by the military and the police that they then use against you, and even if you do what they tell you to, they will still kill you, but hey we're not allowed to fight back, the slightest sign of self defense will land you in prison whilst the criminals walk free. You guys in the US should really appreciate the laws you have. Here if a criminal kills you, guess what? They will be out the very next day with a bailout of $100🙈

Nor should you. Many different ways to observe the property and call law enforcement. I have plenty of "gear" and some tactical training but the most I would do is drop my kids off at a neighbor or friend or down the street and block their car with mine and gtfo of there and call police. Should I happen to have a rifle on me at the time (not likely), I guess I would grab it and have it at the ready just in case. But main point is I would not go into the house with an unknown number of adversaries if no ones life is in danger. Blocking there vehicle prevents a quick getaway and prevents them stealing anything larger than what they can carry while running away on foot.

I had just pulled into my driveway when my camera inside the living room went off. I immediately jumped out of the truck with my carry pistol, popped the door and made entry. Right away I noticed a temperature increase, this was during the summer, so I backed out and went back to my truck. After checking the camera app on my phone I noticed it said temperature notification, my AC had gone out during the day. Relieved, I went back in and my dog was like bro it's hot as hell in here and I realized how quickly I had reacted. Yeah, I could have died if it was an intruder, but I'm not the type of person who relies on others for something I can do myself. Point of the story is the cops aren't required to help you anymore, having a mindset where you don't rely on them is better for what our future holds. Yes, it's just property, but it's my property and I worked damn hard for it, not going to wait minutes for cops to come and then try and arrest me for whatever reason like I've had them do in the past. We rely too much on first responders and waste their time, so I decided over 3 years ago never again unless it's an actual emergency.

The legal consequences is something that I would like to never face so I could end up in prison for the rest of my life. No way ! I think that weapons are to defend ourselves and to use them only as a last resort when my family's life and /or mine, are in indisputable danger. If no family is at home, not going in yourself is definitely the right way to go. And would probably call the cop before going in. Sometimes intruders have a lookout hiding outside so you should at least be aware of that. Not having a wifi recording camera system you can check recorded history on your phone before going in is a shame too. Also correct on the security round, I remember this was discussed extensively in my ccw class (also Texas) you cannot pump one in after the fact. My cop friend told me to absolutely make sure they are dead if they tried to reach for their weapon after they are down though

Yeah good job going in there alone and risking your life ! It wouldn’t be smarter to just park up, call the cops and watch the property from outside where you have clear observation on the criminal escape vehicle and likely escape road route ! Much better to go in and take on an unconfirmed number of criminals who also might have better weapons lol !

I"d be cautious about following your cop friends advice. Since you're not a cop, and you don't have qualified immunity. Absent video evidence, presumption may not favor you if you claim they tried to reach for a weapon when they were down, and even in Texas we have to be aware not only of the law, but what DA we're going to face.

For whatever it’s worth I’m a retired Texas police and I would advise most people just call the police and wait. It’s very rare a homeowner will go into their own home even when they see something like this. If the viewer is wealthy enough to be carrying all that cool gear in their vehicle it would be best you stand your ground take cover, hold containment until police arrive. You got eyes on a suspect vehicle backed up in your driveway at your open garage door? this is a great source of information for police dispatch. This is the only guy I have ever seen that has a painted suppressed SBR tactically set up in his vehicle. In my 20 plus years as a cop I have never ever seen anybody approach their own home when something this suspicious is happening as they get home. Think about it If there is an unknown vehicle in the drive way backed up to an open garage door or signs of forced entry. You should immediately call the police. Inform your neighbors. Do not put yourself or your children at risk by saying “ you stay here I’m goin in” Not everyone is carrying a tactically painted suppressed SBR in their vehicles. There’s a big difference between tactical and tacticool. Which unfortunately, this guy is…all this is, is a guy showing off his toys, his rehearsed tactics in an edited video with a bunch of range day intellect. Nothing is ever text book and it never goes according to plan. I guarantee you you’d shit yourself if confronted with something like this in real life. This guy very rarely encouraged the viewer to just call the police. Which I suggest the viewer do if ever in a situation like this. Even though he says it’s not a lesson in tactics….All he did was was teach tactics. It’s called room clearing tactics. I know this guy has good intentions but I disagree with all this. To the viewer, please call the police no matter what….you make a better witness then hero. One last note if you should ever find yourself having to use deadly force in your own home please don’t ever go “oooopsie” there isn’t time for being cute during these kinda situations.

House clearing is no joke, unlike what you see in Hollywierd, where the dopey actors run around waving their pistols in the air, getting in each other's line of fire and and hollering "CLEAR! CLEAR! CLEAR!" every three seconds, after glancing only halfway into the room, not checking closets, hallways, blind spots or other potential hiding areas. At least once, you should do it at 0-DarkThirty in your bare feet and pajamas, with your heart rate tripled, not turning on the house lights. Do that and you'll get a whole different perspective on what it takes to do it right, and as "safely" as you can. (It is NEVER safe!) In truth, clearing a house is at least a two or three man, job and is NOT something you want to do on your own if you have ANY other options. Best scenario-- lock yourself and family in a secure room, call the police, and be ready to defend against any intruder that breaks into that room before the cops arrive.

Nice to see short stocking employed. That technique was really popular with Marines forced to clear structures with an A4. The RCO wasn't much use indoors and we didn't have piggybacking RMRs back then, so we just used the hotspot from our Surefire torches. SAS used the hotspot on the Maglites attached to the top of their MP5s during the 1980 Iranian Embassy clearing because the location of the light on top of their SMG made the sights inaccessible. And shortstocking has been taught to SWAT teams in the US since the 1990s, primarily as a way to wield 18 and 20 inch barrel shotguns indoors effectively. Both of these techniques are legit, but I have yet to see them used outside 3rd Bat 5th Marines.

Thank you for all your videos, Very informative. I have to agree with some of the viewers that since you ensured the safe whereabouts of your family members (not at home) and since you are by yourself (as I learned, two is one and one is none, also applies to personnel not just equipment). In addition, I don't know how many people are inside the house, could be one, but also could be 3 or 4 just like in your video and I don't know the skills that those people have. Not all criminals are dumb and not well trained.. For all those reasons, I would say that logically, it would be safer to call the police and stay back surveilling the situation, gathering info useful for officers attending. After all, all they're taking is materialistic and can be replaced. No one is getting hurt. Maybe as you said, you could disable the vehicle (deflate the tires) and stay back in a safe location while keeping an eye on the house and let the police do their work. However, I totally understand the ego in us and the protective instinct we have, which makes us forge forward and face the danger to protect what we have. All the things we've been trained to do (gain tactical advantage, fire superiority, cover fire, dead-checks, etc.) can be a one way ticket to the Big House. Unless there is an absolute necessity, calling law enforcement as a civilian is ALWAYS the better option. On the times where deadly force is necessary, you need to stop if the threat stops. Clearing your home, by yourself, is one thing if you’re home and hear something; but if you’re coming home and find someone in your home, and you know your family isn’t there, clearing yourself, alone, is a big risk. As a LEO we never clear anything by ourself, outside of an active shooter situation where time is key and you go in, with an unknown number of people, or no people inside, clearing is always a 2+ person job. I do like the info being put out there as the basics to clearance and just being practically armed is a good thing and watching a video with info is better than not h I guess any info in your head. I’m a nobody, but what I have learned that a soldier fights to win. But a civilian is only allowed to fight to survive. Fight to win means winning ensuring a threat is completely gone. As civilians we don’t have the right to remove threats completely. If an intruder runs it’s dangerous to let them go because it creates an opportunity for counter ambush, but you have to let them go. If an intruder goes down it’s dangerous to let them keep breathing because they can potentially still do damage, but you have to let them live because the courts believe their not a threat. It’s amazing to me how much criminals are protected.

@Chris Forestier keep the doors locked, don't get out for any reason. So if there's gun fire don't get out. Lol you go review it. I'm actually done commenting on this youtube fantasy that people live in.

Great video and really informative. Its a shame that we as the homeowner in a situation like this have to worry about all the ways that the law will come down on us for defending whats ours. For instance, its insane to me that the security round thing is real. As a homeowner, if I am so far in that I shoot someone, I want them dead....not injured so they can civil sue me later.....or come back with their buddies and kill my whole family. So it shouldnt matter if I shoot them once or twenty times. Their choice to commit a crime brought them here. At the end of the day, the law is generally more interested in figuring out how to throw me in jail than the criminals, so the smarter choice is definitely hanging outside and calling the cops. Let them deal with it. Then I can sue the criminals for what little they have for my mental anguish and suffering due to their invasion of my home.

It seems that over the years, law enforcement has taken an approach that looks like this, "Well the dead guy was a known criminal and the last time we arrested him, we got death threats. The homeowner / business owner is squeaky clean and has a family, surely we can find something, anything to charge him with, that way we can be safe, and claim that he did break the law"

If you live in a rural property 30+ minutes from the closest paved road with no neighbors, you can just schwack them regardless what state you live in and bury them on your property and dispose of their electronics and vehicles so they don't get tracked down to your property later. That way you don't have to deal with them coming back nor deal with the court of law because nobody would ever find out. That's my plan at least here in California

Man it's hot boiling time. Grab the chain saw, slice and dice the perps, haul the pieces off to Alabama where fried green tomatoes grow, contents of truck into the pot, throw in some pork rinds, drive truck to river bed and wait for that smarty pants Georgia Sherriff to get a wife of 2cycle chain saw gas. Call Hollywood, get Alec Baldwin to play the part!

This is one of the reasons that old time moonshiners used to keep hogs. They'll eat everything, bones and all.

if you live in a rural county in CA most of them are republican run and the DAs dont charge property owners in justified defense scenarios. The only time i saw a guy get charged was because he shot the intruder as he was jumping back over the fence to escape.

enjoy prison, their electronic devices are already pinging before you can "dispose" of them. move out of california.

Those are all good points. As for me, I'd choose a handgun instead for easier moving around corners, but it's choice. Also, if I was sure that my family wasn't inside, it's a 911 call.

Why wouldn't you choose SBR like he has in the video over a handgun 10000 times out of 10000? Better: recoil, easier to aim, faster followup shots, higher muzzle energy, higher magazine capacity. Handgun is backup or used if no rifle available. Time how fast you can put 10 rounds in A zone with an AR vs a carry pistol. Rifles are soooo easy to shoot.
