I recently made this cookie tin banjo and I am amazed by how good it plays and sounds. It's literally just a cookie tin and a plank of oak. I made a few subtle mods to it but overall... it's really great. If you're a DIY'er, be sure to make one of your own.

That looks like so much fun! We are supposed to get 24 inches of snow the next couple of days and I think I have everything I need at home to put one of these together. Might be a good snow day project while stuck at home.

Jeez. That's a lotta snow. You'll definitely need something to keep you busy. I gotta say... I'm impressed with this little banjo. It's really great. Thanks for watching.

One of my favorite builds is a "Backscratcher Diddly-Bo". A cigar box with a Dollar Store bamboo backscratcher screwed to it and a couple of sound holes drilled into it. I tied the string to each end of the backscratcher and used two bottle caps(Nut and Bridge) to bring the string to tension. No real way to tune it, but it is a blast to noodle on. Single string and a slide sounds really cool. Box was free, Bottle caps were recycled. A dollar for the backscratcher and less than a dollar for the string. Of course, the backscratcher is now $1.25, so I can never build one that cheap again. LOL!!

Yeah. Those impromptu builds are sometimes the best. That's what I love about this hobby. Sometimes the weirdest of combinations sounds like a million bucks when it's less than $10. LOL.

@@musicalmiscellany I have a question. Can I convert a ceremonial Indigenous hand drum into a Banjo ? I have one, and considering using it to make a Banjo. Will it work ? Can you make one on your channel ? I think if it does, it would have a great sound.

@@straightupandforward7494 You might want to check out this series I did. This banjo was a kit but it is essentially a frame drum. I imagine what you're trying to do is very similar (and yes it sounds good). ru-vid.com/group/PLwIixlr7C6KVG1LV-W4W8KxblRgMHnzG5

Thanks for checking it out. Have you seen this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3Doubr18yJQ.html I go through the entire process start to finish. To do it with 4 strings you'd still follow the same process but use 4 tuners and drill 4 holes. Other than that, it's exactly the same.

Sounds great! What strings did you use? Phosphor bronze, Nickel? What gauges? Plain or wound? And what is the scale length. Inquiring minds want to know!
@musicalmiscellany
@musicalmiscellany Год назад
It's a 23" scale. I used the CBGitty acoustic 3-string pack. They're phosphor bronze and .044, .034, .026 I think. www.cbgitty.com/guitar-instrument-parts/cigar-box-guitar-parts/acoustic-medium-blues-blaster-3-string-cigar-box-guitar-strings-low-open-g-gdg/ The crazy thing about this git is I wasn't excited about it at all. It's super basic & I was just building it for the vid... but it turns out I really like it.

BTW, that is a ceramic CBG slide (also called a stubby slide). It's not as wide as a traditional guitar slide because it's designed for 3-strings instead of 6.
