Thank you man. My dad was gone growing up driving a truck. Literally almost my whole life he was there for two years before he passed away My grandfather was gone running his business is etc. but when they both passed away on the same day in July 2013 all of their dreams came to me. And I own a trucking company like my father and I purchase my grandfathers ranch. Watching your videos has taught me a lot Of things that I missed out on learning from my fathers. Hey Cody here's a quick tip so you don't have to do that math in your head. Fold your measuring tape back on itself so that zero lines up with your measurement and your answer to half of your measurement will be where the tape folds back on itself. In the bottom of the U. You can also do larger addition and subtraction by reading where the folded tape lines up on itself. For instance, if you wanted to subtract 27in (2ft 3in) off of 17ft you'd hold your tape the same way as the first example then see where 27 meets the folded back part of the tape which is 177 (14ft 9in). It's basically an improvised slide rule. Hope that made sense and is able to help!

So half of 17'6" is *NOT* 8'8". Here's a fairly easy way that works for me: I bump it to 18' even (adding 6"). Half of that is 9' But now we have to remove half the difference, so since we added 6" to make it easy, we have to subtract 3" from the final. This give 8'9" and for most people can be quickly done in your head. To be fair, 8'8" is just fine for your purpose.
@dornauge1995
@dornauge1995 2 года назад
half of 17,6" IS 8,8" .... you make it 16", half of it is 8" and you are left with 1,6" which half of it is 0,8", so you end up with 8,8" :)

@@dornauge1995 Half of 1'-6" (18") is 9". You're an inch off. Whether or not that's acceptable depends on tolerances. 1" off a landing site on Mars, no problem. 1" off on a circuit board, gonna be an issue.

Or just the ability to quickly divide non-round numbers by 2. 18’ / 2 would be 9’. But this is 6in shorter, so the half of that is 3” shorter = 8’9”. He said 8’8” so was off by an inch, fwiw since I doubt his 17’6” was exact to start. Not meaning to insult him but either 5 1/3 meters or 533 cm likely would have given him just as much pause trying to divide.
@pookie_de5852
@pookie_de5852 3 года назад
@@vctrsigma And even in your specific example of 533 cm the metric system is superior. Switch to mm -> 5330 mm and, ta-daaa, it´s an even number again.....wich is quite easy to divide by two....

Great vid. Love from the UK 🇬🇧. As said, public school in the UK is often associated with wealth and upper classes and can cost tens of thousands per year to attend per child. Schools such as Eton, Milfield, Atlantic College, Brecon, Wellington School etc are some examples with Eton probably being the most famous.

Osage Orange(hedge apple) produces 32.9 million btu per cord

So ok let's compared with coal okay let's , google coal BTUs per cord... Nope. Um ton? Cord per ton? Ton per cubic foot? Uh. Yes also oublic school education but I gotta tell you there's not a private school on earth that's gonna get us to this one.
@wesleyfranzen6675
@wesleyfranzen6675 3 года назад
There’s about 20 million btu’s in a ton of coal. 1 cord of Osage orange weighs about 5000 lbs. 2.5 tons (5000 lbs) of coal contains appx 50 million btu’s. 1 cord (4’x4’x8’) of coal contains 3.2 tons, so appx 64 million btu’s. Either way about it, coal contain more btu’s, but it is pretty impressive how close Osage orange comes. Public school education here, and I played around more than I payed attention.

A great tip to get the centre of anything. Measure approximately half way and pick a measurement and make a mark. Make the same measurement from the other end and mark. Your centre is between those two marks. It's easy now there close together.

When doing imperial fractions in my head I always go to the simplest larger number, divide by quantity desired than take the reminder, divide that and subtract it from the final... So to find the half of 17' 6" I go to 18' divided by two would be 9, minus half of the remainder (6"), since it was divided by 2 (6/2=3) gives you 8' 9". Not sure if thats convoluted, but it got me through 5 years of carpentry before I became a machinist. Now all I have to deal with is metric and thousands, or on a fun day ten thousandths of an inch.

Howdy neighbor - well sorta since I’m about 6 hours due north of you. Did you feel any of the Mt. Fuji rumblings back in January? I‘m with you - the Lumberjack Tools family-owned business is a great bunch of folks. Shortly after viewing the video where you first introduced the tools a few months back I called them to ask some questions and described my needs. They walked me through all the options. I was fixin’ to rebuild some fence along the frontage road and figured to harvest some timber to do it. I was also looking to expand my woodworking output to include log furniture. Well, the Lumberjack folks got me hooked up with what I needed in no time flat. This video was, as usual, a real kick to watch since I will be putting the lumberjack tools to good use in short order.
