Our Cross to Bear If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it. -Matthew 16:25 The cross today is a symbol for many. When we see a cross on top of a building, we conclude that it must be a church, because to us, the cross is a symbol of the Christian faith. But for others, it is a fashion accessory. It means a variety of things for a variety of people. In the first century, however, even the word cross was offensive and bothersome because the cross represented a painful death. The Romans didn’t invent the cross, but they took crucifixion to another level. They designed it to cause pain and torture. There were more efficient ways to execute someone, but for the worst criminals, the Romans used crucifixion. They nailed them to crosses, which resulted in a slow death. This served as a warning to anyone who dared to revolt against the power of Rome. It wasn’t uncommon to see crucified men on the roads leading into Roman cities. So, when Jesus told the disciples that He would die on a cross, it meant something to them. But then He made it even more personal. He said, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross, and follow me. If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it” (Matthew 16:24-25) Jesus wasn’t merely addressing these words to the disciples in the first century. He was addressing them to disciples in every century. To “give up your own way” means to put God’s will and desires above your own. Selfish people will find this outrageous, even offensive. Narcissists need not apply. In day-to-day living, “take up your cross” means to die to yourself. Sometimes people describe whatever difficulty they have in life as their cross to bear. A mother might say, “My children are really trouble. But that is my cross to bear in life.” And the mother’s children no doubt will say, “Our mother? Well, that is our cross to bear.” You might have a difficulty you’re facing, so you say, “Well, we all have our crosses to bear, and I guess this is mine.” And while we will have our challenges and problems in life, that is not what Jesus meant. In the first century, if you saw someone walking through the city carrying a cross, it meant only one thing: that person was about to die. Therefore, when we read that we are to take up the cross and follow Jesus, it means that we are to die to ourselves. We don’t hear messages about this very often. And maybe the reason the church today is so weak and anemic is that we don’t know that much about cross-bearing. Maybe if we stopped trying to be so much like the world, the world would start wanting to be more like us. Are we really carrying the cross today? Are we really dying to ourselves? This is what Jesus is calling us to do.
@@zarkane6990 i mean, factually its not that rare. Holos were like 1 out of every 3 packs. 16 total holos. 1 out of 48 chance to pull a Charizard from a random pack, 1 out of 16 from a heavy pack. The chance to open a sealed base set pack in itself is whats rare. Its valuable because of nostalgia and how its not super common to find old cards in pristine condition. There are several modern cards that are more rare. Specific Special illustration rare pull rates are like 1:800. The difference in value is that everyone wants a base Charizard from 26 years ago when they were kids, comparatively no one cares about Iron Leaves ex from 2024.
its even more funny how many packs and first edition boxes are alive.. feels like reprints tbh.. they say there so low amount of left but yet in the last 5-10 years there been open a dozen of them.. and am pretty sure more will come
I only ever got 1 pokemon booster pack ever in my life in 1999. I opened it up and it had a Charizard. Sometimes I wonder how my life would have been different if I still had it and didnt instead trade it for like 5 holofoils that were in poor shape out of feeling for the kid that was literally desperately begging to trade it. I think he traded me ivysaur, hitmonchan, and a few others all in less than perfect condition.
I really miss the days when having Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh card battles were fun. Now it's all about collecting for a bigger profit later. Pokémon is literally the next bitcoin😢.
I was gonna comment “if this was pokerev it’s gonna be a holo charizard” before I even spent one second viewing this short, only to not be disappointed with the same result every single one of these pack opening channels have. These guys must have the same successful pull percentage rating as Nancy pelosi with her investments. People would rather watch 50 packs be opened and just a couple crap V or Ex’s and finally that one big big hitter that’s a profit maker card of 4$ then this over and over but hey I was here for the comments and I’m glad vast majority of viewers for these videos are fed up with it
I’ll be that guy. This is definitely an awesome pull from our back in the day but saying pulled a 4k card is a bit misleading. Let’s say this thing was flawless which though in great condition it isn’t you’d be talking around $350-500 tops in raw form. When/if you send this away they will consider the print lines on the holo and it being off centered from top to bottom. Not sure what the back looks like with just that it brings you down to a 9 which is a great grade. If you go with PSA which in this cards case gets the highest value between PSA and BGS. I’ve recently sold both. My BGS went for 850 and I was able to get $1100 for my PSA 9. PSA 10s are out there but crazy rare and difficult to get.Hope this helps anyone that may consider collecting before sinking money into anything thinking these are the margins as a base set pack can cost $360-$500 EACH. An awesome hobby but an expensive one.
That’s correct, the value depends on what grade it gets. “This could be worth $10,00”, isn’t the same thing as “This is worth $10,000”. It should be back from PSA soon, hoping for a 10, expecting a 9.
Yo those arent the ones worth money. The ones that are have "1st edition" printed to the left of the pokemon description below the art. I have several first edition cards. Your yellow cheeked pikachu is a nice find though, but the charizard woulsnt have been worth anything if you found it.
@@SukunaAnimeArtist You are brainwashed. What makes him so bad? He was chonky, mischievous, and cute. Anime chu was better OG too and I'm not even a Genwunner
Hands down THE BEST Set of Pokémon cards Ever!!! I am biased because I grew up with these cards and to be honest, I don’t give a damn! These are The OG cards of Pokemon! This is what started it all! Prove me wrong! 😂
Pretty sure he streams like 99% of the stuff he opens. I mean he has to film himself all the time because he opens packs for other people. Imagine the uproar of 100+ dollar packs leaving the screen for a few seconds after being opened and then not pulling anything. I am not the biggest fan of rip and ship but he is entertaining to watch and he seems VERY fair imo. Also, there is no better ad than pulling good stuff for your customers.
Its 100% not worth nearly ad much. That charizard he pulled might be worth $20-50 bucks just for the age, but if its not a 1st edition its not worth the big bucks. I have the 2nd edition charizard worth around 100 but the 1st edition holo machamp worth between 1 and 1300 hundred in mint condition. If it aint first, its last.
Bought this card recently in a cgc 9. Just wanted a nice copy since it was my childhood dream card and I’ve finally got it. Bout to start collecting the others I’ve been after. Like the mew delta species I’m about to buy
@@Vinclum are you high or stupid? People use gloves for books 🥴, cards, basically everything where people don’t want fingerprints on it. It’s why people use gloves when committing crimes and when performing surgery and medical procedures. Gloves themselves don’t damage anything because latex is a non destructive material because it doesn’t react with anything
It was pulled fresh from a box, will grade highly. It's presumed value at this point, but $100 for a Charizard in that condition is criminally underpriced.
I had about six of those charizards. Including about three weird Japanese ones. That were technically stronger 😂. I had three of the Venusaur.. Add four Blastoise I had seven Alakazam all in a binder I lost while moving as I got older... And that was just the tip. I was young and didn't think this way.. my father kept telling me same thing with baseball cards keep them in good shape don't show your friends. When you get older they'll be worth something.... If I could go back in time. Between Pokemon Yu-Gi-Oh and magic the gathering............. I'd be all set
