It’s crazy to know that THE Hacksmith, one of the biggest contend creator on the platform, has visited my home town !!! I literally recognize the harbors and docks on the background and obviously the huge crane. I wish I would have seen him around. I first heard of Mammoet years ago on some special heavy lift project that was covered on PBS. Digging into them decades ago was fascinating then and the work they've done over the years is just continually utterly mind boggling at times. You could always tell and this video shows it so well it's a company of very passionate people.

Actually I think the largest crane in the world is the SGC250 "Big carl" by the Belgian Sarens company. It is also 5000T but peaks at 250m compared to the 246m of the Mammoet one. Actually the mammoet is the third largest (but I agree that it is very close)

@@TwitchyMofo 10% is a whole lot. imagine you making 10% less money. i'd quit. or if you had to pay 10% more taxes. i'd move. imagine being able to bench press 10% more than your max. i could go on forever. but the important thing is that american call really massive things "[x] metric shittons". they swear even. it's a respect thing bc it's so much more and bc you can actually make simple calculations in metric in your head even without having to be a semi-maths genius like how many barley corns are in a ton vs how many milligrams are in a metric tonne.

At 5:20 , they are swaying because each cable has only about 5 tonnes of stress on it (assuming 20 T for the cables themselves). 120 T / 24 cables. So basically nothing for a cable that size.

i've been there in 2009 when I was 12 years old, they had an event and I operated one of their smaller cranes. you could win a goodie bag if you managed to lower one inside an oil barrel. still use the can opener keychain it came with, just lost the logo quite a few years ago.

As a crane operator for simple tower cranes, this is huge. I max out at 50tons if the customer orders it. But 12ton is the basic.
