She was essentially reliant on him, and was heavily manipulated into trusting him. Doesn’t mean all of her behavior is reasonable or justified, especially when she becomes a character witness for him, likely knowing he’s guilty, but it’s the most likely scenario.

Never have I wanted the us justice to engage in corruption and 'lose' any evidence against his care worker. One woman should benefit from this creature.
