When mastering the art of allowing a designer to discuss their own creation results in perfection. I fell in love with this build due the extensive knowledge of old and new put into creating this masterpiece. Him being humbled by the painter should be lesson to us all to allow individuals to create, and we, just simply trust the process.
Nice! ICON - I would love to own any of their vehicles they produce. They are just... beyond amazing on how they do things. And the owner seems like the most chill dude who's super passionate in everything he loves. So glad you two got to meet up and hang out. :)
In today's insanity of 80-90K trucks rotting on the dealer lots, Jonathan's concepts are the inspiration for everyone who loves vintage vehicles with a modern technological slant. I'm working on a 1960 Chevy Apache with a planned LS swap. Beautiful creations like this inspire the rest of us. I'll never buy a new vehicle again.
60 Apache? Awesome man! Agree...its better long term to sink 50k into an old ride that will go another 50 yrs instead of a new tin box full of gizmos that will be obsolete in the near future PLus its new paid for and exactly what you want!!! Love driving old iron now that Im retired, stand out from the rest!
“Feels more honest.” is a comment that says SO much about the work ICON does in their design and material development process. They make absolutely awesome vehicle versions of drivable artwork. 👍🏻😎👍🏻
I've had a soft (or is it hard?) spot for ICON Customs for a long time, the design, detail and craftmanship from Jonathan and the team across all the vehicles they turn out is phenomenal, leaving 99% of the other custom shops in their wake. Every single element is considered, refined and improved. Full geek out!
About half an hour after the end of this video I picked my jaw up from the floor This was the most fantastic build of a Cherokee I have ever seen The quality and build level were crazy good and the details, large and small were out of this world. WOW !
Not big on restomods but this one is just right. Still has the old school look in/out just classed it up, strong as hell with a better powerplant. Builds that are overdone, ticky tacky look dated in 2-3 yrs. I would want some polished alum 5 slot mags though
I could listen to Jonathan geek out all day, still waiting for these guys to do a bad build😂😂 could be waiting a long time🙌🏻🙌🏻 absolutely love icon builds🎉
I have had the pleasure of meeting JW.. You're right.. I could listen to him talk all day.. He is the most " Amazing Geek " in the Auto Industry.. Great Build.. Always looking forward to seeing what's next..
His level of Build Quality & Re Engineering is nothing short of Amazing.. I'm so glad the he has enough High End Clients that enable him to take these builds to the level that he does..
That’s an amazing rig. Icon builds the coolest stuff. Jonathan is definitely a modern legend, his attention to detail and ability and willingness to pull these builds off are astonishing.
This is basically the best of the best modern ground up built 4x4, with a beautiful retro body skinned over the top. This is the pinnacle of what is possible
The thing is still on leaf springs so that's far from the truth. Cool rig but still rides like an old truck. I've built a few FSJs (for off road) and no manner of leafs will ride as well as a linked vehicle. I really want another Cherokee Chief but they're either rusted to hell or ridiculously expensive now. And that's too bad. These things are the perfect dimensions and personality rolled into one.
Absolutely fantastic! I’m a huge fan of both you guys and that was such a pleasure to watch. Mr. Ward and his masterpieces are the epitome of craftsmanship and creativity and what a way to showcase his latest on Autotopia LA. Nicely done guys ! Killer
Grew up with Jeeps, got a soft spot for 'em. Top to bottom, Wicked wicked build. And a definite Yes to manual windows. Tight! Supercharge whine and electric buzzes in a 70's Jeep would've been a thorn like a beautiful woman with squeeky slippers.
Man if I can get a 1st Gen Dodge D250 (short bed) with the same attention to detail as this jeep, I would be in heaven. The older I get, the more I appreciate the attention to detail. Damn, Focal Speakers also!!!
This man uses that right side of the brain for sure. Guys like him are far and few in between. Anyone can do a trendy or copy cat deal...this dude marches to the beat of his own drum.
I am absolutely in love with the nerd-level passion for this. the ICON wagoneer was already an inspiration, but this makes me want to turn mine into a wide track. I am no fabricator, but I did build a grand Wagoneer with a hemi swap, and an 8-speed that does not grenade. I Lost focus on the interior (I wanted to keep it original but let's face it, it should look original, but feel modern) so that's something I will redo over the winter, the original seats just do not cut it in terms of comfort on longer trips. The same goes for suspension, I kept the original setup and upgraded to all-new leaf springs and Bilstein shocks, but it still rides as leafsprings. I have designed a radius arm front and rear suspension that will work with JK axles and the original frame. I do not have ICON budget, but doing it this way is way more fun and cheaper than buying a new boring SUV from the lot. And those do not have solid axles, part / full time 4wd and 32" AT tyres packed in a classy vintage look V8's on new cars are virtually extinct in Europe, unless you are willing to pay 100% environmental tax, so now I get to enjoy a modern V8 in a bespoke package that suits my style.
The level he modernized the interior yet to most it might pass for nice restored original..love it. hard to find the line between tasteful and overdone
This thing is a beauty. Only thing I would’ve asked for differently was 6 speed minimum trans. Ideally LT4/10 speed, LT1 if you don’t feel the need of a supercharger. ICONS broncos are a dream ride
First time viewing this, I see a factory Jeep with a lift kit. If I stood next to it I would see a factory Jeep with a lift kit. The detailed tour by Jonathan Ward reveals a master work of highly functional mind blowing art. This is wizard level alchemy sh¡†.
Gorgeous machine. In the early 00s, I thought, "Icon builds are dumb." Now, as old steel goes away , I love keeping this stuff alive anyway possible. High-quality bespoke, classic cars that arent aren't necessarily popular with boomers and GenX ( cameros, mustangs, chargers) will be big business for later gens in the future.
There is nothing like an Icon vehicle! I wouldn't really call Jonathan OCD. It's more like an extreme focus! And Jonathan always goes BEYOND the next level!
That feather graphic is about as far from cultural appropriation as you can get. Context. Matters. And the research you did...hats off, Mr. Ward, you mad genius 😁😁
If a Native American is for it it can t be appropriation ..when black people have a go at white people for having dreadlocks the Celts and the Gaels had dreadlocks 2000years ago on the British isles .
We know how expensive these builds can get but I feel like icon (more than the other top builders) can really justify the outrageous price tag. Build me a 71 suburban please lol
Love the build overall. Once again, Jonathan and the ICON team turns out another impeccably-thought-out, epic build! But hmm... 28:42 for 3/4 of a mill or whatever this thing cost, it seems like there should've been some geeky engineering applied in the form of gas struts or crazy power hinge system to help with raising and lowering that heavy tail gate. 🤔
I’ve been following this build for a while, so glad you guys showcased it! Simply unreal in its execution 👍🏼 Keep up the great work Icon and AutotopiaLA!
