@@wartome3196 interesting, I read the bill text. It was a standard appropriations bill for the fiscal year. As is standard every year, the appropriations bill has to be passed and has no verbiage that dictates gender of students. Specifically, the representative in question was making comments that, by supporting public education, it would somehow take a mother's presence in the home as opposed to allowing the child to get an education, regardless of gender. As such, said representative has watched his own comments and even issued a public apology as he came to the realization that what he said was entirely inappropriate and so steeped in a culture long since supposed to have passed, that it is really interesting you seem to be defending him more than he is himself. Based on the comments in other threads, though, it is clear that education is something you view is only important for males as a means to more or less control the women as property. Your comments about graduation and success rates indicates more an issue with the culture we put forth for the genders. Males are generally expected to take more athletic positions in our country which are then used as a means up push them into educational opportunities they place little importance on. Women, on the other hand have had to fight for even the most basic rights to advanced education, career placement, and standing. To sit here and lecture people on educational standards while preaching in multiple threads that you view your daughter's necessary education as finding a man that "supports" her, which is really code for uses his money and her lack of ability to fend for herself as a means to control her, is sickening at its core.

"Some media claimed the erratic behaviour of paparazzi following the car, as reported by the BBC, had contributed to the crash. In 1999, a French investigation found that Paul, who lost control of the vehicle at high speed while intoxicated by alcohol and under the effects of prescription drugs, was solely responsible for the crash. He was the deputy head of security at the Hôtel Ritz and had earlier goaded paparazzi waiting for Diana and Fayed outside the hotel. Anti-depressants and traces of an anti-psychotic in his blood may have worsened Paul's inebriation. In 2008, the jury at a British inquest returned a verdict of unlawful killing through grossly negligent driving by Paul and the following paparazzi vehicles."
@Nicky Iannis Hate to be "that guy" but princess Diana died because the work she was doing and she voiced her opposition to what they were doing to children. She was the biggest humanitarian of the time, and the people in charge didn't like the spotlight shining on her.
@Nicky Iannis K Lemme post something else "At 00:23, Paul lost control of the vehicle at the entrance to the Pont de l'Alma tunnel. The car struck the right-hand wall and then swerved to the left of the two-lane carriageway before it collided head-on with the thirteenth pillar that supported the roof. The car was travelling at an estimated speed of 105 km/h (65 mph) - over twice the tunnel's 50 km/h (31 mph) speed limit. It then spun and hit the stone wall of the tunnel backwards, finally coming to a stop. The impact caused substantial damage, particularly to the front half of the vehicle, as there was no guard rail between the pillars to prevent this. Witnesses arriving shortly after the accident reported smoke. Witnesses also reported that photographers on motorcycles "swarmed the Mercedes sedan before it entered the tunnel."" This sounds entirely the fault of the driver. Any blame put on the paparazzi is more that "they were annoying". There is zero blame of them getting in the way of the car, and clearly zero blame of them forcing the driver to pull 60mph in a tunnel.

I disagree with him - particularly on the gender front. However, I think there might be a conversation about a capitalist society that effectively forces a lot of parents to be near absent because they're chained to their desks and to defining themselves in professional terms. At age 9, I could barely have picked my parents out of a police lineup. And we live in a world in which a corporate perk is egg freezing. There are perhaps multiple harms. Removing day care comes with the harm of putting someone out of work (and given the current division of labor, this would tend to be women). But a corporate world where people are forced to put their kids in care from weeks old seems like something that could be addressed. So a middle ground might be facilitating day care but altering work hours so people can have kids.

The thing about paparazzi that always gets me is that there's this idea that their is a right and wrong way to do their jobs. There is only their way; otherwise, they'd be photojournalists. It's the lack of boundaries that makes their job their job. It's a job I don't think should exist. It's exploitative on every level - the people who are harassed by them, the news outlets that feel trapped into a war of buying the best, most marketable, awfulness they can, the end viewers who reinforce that message to the news outlets and encourage rewarding the paparazzi with more business. I'm not naive, I know there are people who court paparazzi attention. That doesn't justify their existence. Even when a celebrity colludes in the photos being taken, the impression we're meant to be left with -- and to endorse -- is that these are candid pictures of people living their lives. Yes, often times, it involves public settings, but if someone started walking around after me in public, my instinct wouldn't be, "Oh, well, I'm in public. I have zero right to be left in peace. It's all fair game out of doors." Breaching boundaries is entirely what makes for the appeal of their photographs. It's the whole job. There's no ethical way to harass someone to tears over their private, legal, personal life, even when they're standing in a public space.
I second this. Yeah the public IS the public and you aren't technically expecting privacy, but at the same time nobody wants what essentially amounts to a group of stalkers following them around everywhere.
