I will never understand why a band wouldn’t wait for this guy and prefer to let him go after 25 years of friendship. Maybe it’s not for me to understand. Mike said in a recent interview “I have no regrets, I learned to forgive.” Makes me wonder what’s there to forgive.
I think it was definitely conflict of feelings at the time. Portnoy felt things were getting stale, while the rest of the band wanted to keep going, so they probably felt totally differently. They were also starting to have success commercially with their last two album before he left, with Black Clouds and Silver Linings being their first top 10 Billboard album. It would be weird to just stop for a few years at that point if you're not feeling burnt out.
you don't know anything of a recording studio, they always put a lot of reverb and echo into the drumstrack and when you add the music tracks together then the drums will mix in perfectly. Without reverb and little open gate the drums will sound like cardboard boxes
he uses his left hand hitting with the back of the stick first off. Second I believe that is a Melody master snare named after his daughter. One of portnoys signature items in his arsenal
