You're lucky that you live in one of the most bicycle-friendly areas of the PNW. Even back when I was a kid (when dinosaurs roamed the earth) we could ride all the way from Mackenzie Bridge to Lake Lowell without seeing any traffic. You can get almost anywhere within thirty miles without driving a vehicle. Looks like fun.

You're right, we're pretty lucky here. My 22-yr-old son in fact has chosen to remain car-less and gets around almost entirely on his (standard, non-electric) bike.

This is awesome! The estimated 105+ miles per charge will be at PAS 1. It's also better to keep the battery warm, the cold weather will effect the battery little bit. But as long as it's not freezing cold, it should not be a problem. Hope you enjoy your time with our E-bike!🥰

True batteries are affected by low temps and perform best when they are warm to very warm. Also, batteries can be like your stomach. If you are starving your hurting, and if you`re too full and staying that way days on end, that would be uncomfortable. Same for the battery. Its happiest when charge never gets too low and never stays fully charged for long periods. I think though batt, tech is so that if you fully charged your batt and let it sit for so long it would do a self-discharge to half power so the battery isnt damaged otherwise.

That class 2/class 3 thing makes so much more sense than the heavy restrictions we have here in Australia (& I think Europe). Pretty sure that would be classed as a motorcycle here, with all the laws that come with them. I’m so jealous, it looks like so much fun!

I have had a Sondors Fold X for a couple of years. I carry it on the back of my Series one Tundra when I am out in the Bonnies. I call it my final spare tire. I carry a spare battery (about $300 dollars) for extra piece of mind on the back rack. I have a set of tire chains for the snow, lots of fun. Enjoy

Save that plastic clip that came out of the caliper if you can, it's for maintenance and transporting with the front wheel off. Thanks for the review!

That looks like it would be a lot of fun. I as an avid bicyclist I can tell that the saddle is actually a little low for you. Be careful and don't hurt your knees. No seat adjustment would be a big drawback to me. I ride a rode bike but one of these days I will switch to an E bike. Thanks for the review it is always interesting to see how E bikes are getting better. Will you be taking this bike on you trips? Take care and be safe

It is low for almost anyone, but because of the assist, you don't really have to work at it...it doesn't feel like it's stressing anything. I would never just pedal this thing around without the motor assisting, it's way too heavy. Really, it's an electric motor scooter that you can help go further by pedaling. 🙂 For the moment I don't plan on taking it with me into the backcountry, at least, not until I come up with a good way to transport it. For now I am using it as a way to burn less gas around town and save those gallons for trips. 🙂

I have been toying with purchasing a electric bicycle for a few years now. You are not making it any easier I might add. Anyway, there was a electric bicycle that I was looking at very similar to this one. The seat on that one can be raised with what they call a seat riser. It basically is just a spacer between the seat and frame. Not sure if that is a option with this one or not, but maybe something to look at. Looks like a lot of fun! Thanks for sharing! George.

You should've tried using the gears without any motor assist. So you know what it will be like once the battery is dead.
@softroadingthewest
@softroadingthewest Год назад
Oh I did. It's a tank of a bike and not fun to pedal without any assist...one is motivated to manage their battery well enough to be able to get home with power remaining, heh. I think most people don't look at these as bicycles that can help them pedal, they look at them as electric motor scooters that they occasionally assist by pedaling. :-)

We went with Lectric. Not a fan of the no Adjustable seat. And Lectric came more ready to ride. Curious what your other e bike is? Looking forward to seeing what your next camper setup will be. Scout?

My other ebike is a folding Snapcycle. I did a video about it last year: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-S9dtsAVEAw4.html I do like that bike and I had continued to use it, largely as an around-town errand runner also. The original idea was that I could fold it and put in the back of the truck to use for exploring an area around camp without burning gas, or scout questionable trails before driving them, but the bike is so bulky and heavy when folded that it actually ended up easier to transport unfolded. But that also proved to be kind of a headache and I only ever did that once, and that trip didn't even make it onto the channel. :-) The center of gravity of the Snapcycle folding bike is higher...both you and the battery are up higher, and on those little 20" wheels I found it nerve-wracking on downhill descents where the bike would get up beyond its normal 20 mph max. It otherwise functions exactly like this bike, very similar pedal assist, twist throttle, 7-speed gearing, fun to zip around town on. I find Addmotor's "moped" format more comfortable and fun to ride so it's become my first choice. Sometimes my son uses the Snapcycle to get to work, and it's been nice having two in the garage. The Snapcycle folding bike comes with a rear rack which I eventually outfitted for hauling, a nice feature that is missing from this bike, although Addmotor does sell a rack you can add to this bike (which I'm considering buying actually so I don't have to put everything in a backpack). I am still figuring out what will happen next for the truck camping setup. I still have the contractor cap sitting in my driveway as an option. :-)

Very informative video Donald. Like another person commented, I am also 6'2" and would likely have problems with the non-adjustable seat. I am also 250 lbs. How much do you think that would lower the range I would get with that bike? I recognize some of that scenery. Greetings from the "other Donald" from Eugene.

06:10 Schwinn Stingray, circa 1960s, has a similar 'banana' seat. I don't recall 'comfort' as a requirement for popping block-long wheelies...

Great video as usual Donald , the non adjustable seat is a deal breaker four me as I’m 6’2” and wouldn’t fit. Noticed you still have the cab in drive , thought it would have sold by now…maybe convert back to stock and post it like that?
@softroadingthewest
@softroadingthewest Год назад
I stopped trying to sell it when the camper testing thing didn't work out. I've been unusually busy with client work and also just taking advantage of having an open truck for some homeowner duties, and just haven't had the time (or mental energy) to figure out exactly what I'm going to do next. I have a few different possible paths floating around in my head, and going back to the cap is one of them, so I'm keeping it there in the driveway for now. 🙂

The best thing you can do with these so called tool kits that come with these eBikes is donate them to Habitat and get yourself some real tools from Lowes, Home Depot, etc. Different story if it is a tool kit that came with your Porsche but there you go. I was badly run over as a kid and each decade brings more hip pain, my eBike has given me back my parks and trails. I can pedal or not. I can walk and if my hip starts screaming I don't have to hobble home, just back to the bike.

@softroadingthewest Год назад
I've been unusually buried with client work and dealing with some homeowner tasks (taking advantage of the open truck bed), and just haven't got around to rebuilding my setup. I've been kicking around a few different options, but mostly just haven't been able to devote time & energy to figuring out exactly what I want to do going forward. 🙂

Are you ever planning on taking it with you on the trail? I wonder how it would be on a bike rack?
@softroadingthewest
@softroadingthewest Год назад
That's not currently the plan. The shape, size & weight seems like it would be difficult to carry with a typical bike carrier. At some point when I have nothing better to do, I'd like to try fabbing something more like a lightweight motorcycle carrier for it, I think that would be better suited to this bike. We'll see if that ever happens. :-)

I would like to know how it handles rough back roads, or how easy is it on your posterior? I have thought about carrying something like this on a trip for exploring all the side roads that I don’t want to get stuck on.
@softroadingthewest
@softroadingthewest Год назад
I haven't really tried it on rough roads yet. The seat is super cushy. It's kind of a big awkward thing to haul, though at some future point when I've got nothing better to do, I'd like to try fabricating something similar to a lightweight motorcycle carrier that would allow me to take this with when it makes sense.
