Sorry, but I couldn't help laughing when you played the sound of you trying to pull the hooks out! Glad the doc finally took care of ya. Keep fishing and stay safe.
This was the fishing video I needed! Its good to know that even the pros have bad days. This was the most relatable fishing video yet lol. I like that you are changing up the spots to keep it new and refreshing!
That's a fact. The Father of a good friend of mine, when we told him we had been fishing, said "that's your problem. You go fishing, I go catching". I have been laughing about that one for years.
Man! I am so sorry but I had to laugh at the sounds you were making trying to get the hooks out by yourself. 😂😂😂,,, I have been there unfourtunatly. Got nailed by my buddy casting from behind me on the other side of the casting deck. Two trebles and 4 hooks through my cargo shorts pockets into my thigh. It felt like LT, Lawrence Taylor, hit me in my leg! He yanked so hard at first but thank God he released his finger from the line instead of holding on and completing his follow through on the cast. 😮😮! He was appologizing profusely and then he says. I got this! You won't hurt but a second when I pull them out. I have had this happen a couple times before. My response? ,, You should have told me that before you got behind me so I could have gone to the back of the boat!😊😅! He pulled out a pair of midget sized hinged bolt cutters. A large pair of beefy industrial looking stainless steel forceps. A hefty sized wine bottle cork. He said, "it will only sting when I push the hook point through the skin on each hook." He cut each of the hook shanks off as long as he could off the treble. That got lure and shorts out of the equation. That did not hurt and i thought it would. Next he locked the huge forceps onto the first hook shank near the cut end of it. He said, showing me with the forceps, " I am going to twist like this real fast and pop the hook point up and outta the rest of the way thru your skin!" It will only sting a little. He used the flat part of the wine cork to be the opposing force needed to break the hook point through the skin. I got all worked up for nothing. It was a little sting pinch kinda. Out came each hook and not really any pain. So from now on I carry those three tools in my tackle box and my boat has an easy to reach glove box where they all live in now.
Great video Brant. 👍👍👍 That's what reaĺ fishing 🎣 is 80% of the time. You handled it with persistence and kept at it. If you hadn't have got hooked you probably would have had success. Hope you heal soon and get after em again. Keep the lines tight.
I feel your pain Brant, same thing happened to me on a fishing vacation the fish started thrashing when I was trying to remove the hole and it went straight into my thumb past the barb, but luckily it was only one of the three barbs and I was able to remove it with a loop of monofilament. I watch all of your videos keep on making them thanks from Missouri looking forward to the next one.
Back in 2009, I had caught my first tarpon (~80lbs.) from the Jolly Roger Pier on Topsail Island, NC. The sun had completely set when the tarpon was released. I began to pack up, mistakenly laying my live-bait rig, which had 2 trebles, on the pier floor instead of on the rail as I normally do. Then, while reeling up the anchor rod, I stepped right on one of the trebles, lodging one of the hooks straight into the hard skin near my big toe and the next toe. 😳 ouch After a 45-hour drive to the E.R. they had to numb it and slice it out. I feel your pain, Brant!
Had a treble hook in my palm below my thumb (just 1 hook). Had to push the barb through, cut it off, and pull it back out. Luckily I had wire cutters in my tackle box. Thanks for sharing your experience, Brant!👍
Hi Brant. I grew up in Minnesota where everybody fishes. If we got a hook really buried in us, the best way to get it out was push it through (out) of you and snip the barb off. No need to slice a big hole in your flesh. Apart from that, thanks a bunch for a great channel. I live in PCB now. Really want to fish here but the local regs and species are kind of overwhelming for a newbie. Hoping to resolve that soon. Keep up the great work!
Brant your dedication to the craft of fishing is phenomenal and it takes WORK! You gotta stay out of the ER thought. Pulled calf and treble hooks.... come on man :)
I've had to deal w/ it while off-shore ; about 12 miles out of Sabine Pass, Texas my dad jerked a fish into the boat & all I heard was him yell. He buried 2 sets of treble hooks into his shin near the bone on the front of the leg. I might have cut them off & reversed them but it would have required me to dig the points after cutting off the shanks, then reversing the hooks out & we were in 5-7ft seas in an 18 ft boat..... it wasn't the place or time to be doing surgery so I got us home & to an ER. My dad did not want to go, he was a drinker & was drunk so I almost had rather have done it myself but I was too tired & it was too near his shin bone to mess around. The LINE Trick is a good one but only if ya can get a clean fast pull, if not it can get sloppy & cause you more damage. You can cut the shank off, then push the hook thru backwards so you aren't pulling the barb against the grain.... but that's what you do when you can't get help or are in a place & ya don't wanna ruin the trip for all with you. I know that sucks - funny thing is it doesn't hurt when it happens.... takes a few minutes to start "smarting" but I'm glad you got it handled. peace man
You get the numbing meds & I'll handle it next time..... I kid you not, my family calls me Dr Don for my bedside manner and frankly, I'm surprised the Dr would suggest tearing it out ? Don't go back to him unless he's a buddy b/c I can't believe he'd try the "Snatch --n- Jerk" method..... but that's my non-medical opinion. Glad you are better !
WTF! Brant, I have seen it all you will do anything for a bite, Unbelievable! I appreciate the dedication to bringing us the viewer great content, but this is so way out there! All joking aside I hope after they give you a shot at whatever they do in an ER I hope you feel better, After watching to the end and finding out you went to Urgent Care I said to myself WTF is going on can a day get any worse, I`m glad it finally worked out for you, What a video!
Brant, I am so sorry to hear the news, we will be praying for your speedy and full healing Brother. Stay safe and wear long pants next time! God Bless you, and still hoping to "catch you" on Navarre's surf or the pier one of these days!!
Glad you're on the mend! Almost lost my leg 3 years ago after getting shanked by a horn on a saltwater cat. 2 guys on the pier pulled so hard it snapped off in my leg and was resting against my tibial artery and nerve. Had to have surgery, kept the horn as a souvenir. Didn't stop me from fishing but it was pretty wild.
That's about as real as it gets Brant how old you got to do is go home and tell Melanie the only thing you caught was yourself hopefully she don't throw you back LOL
I’m the guy on the bike who stopped and spoke to you. The bite was slow that day. I caught a couple reds that night under the old fishing pier. One slot and one over, I threw both back
Brad you should get on to him for not watching your videos, if he seen your vids he would know the bridge had a bike trail. 😂😂😂😂 no support from your so called friend 😂😂 tell him to invest in pliers that cut hooks. The ER right 😂
I hope you are okay. I hope it doesn't get to sore. May God bless you and your family and friends 🙏. I will be praying for you. Keep up the great work you do wonderful videos. I love fishing.
That's a tough one. Been there with one two in my back that a fellow fisherman hit me while casting. Trick is to push the barb through, cut it off and pull it back out. Not fun at all. Great video.
He deleted my comment saying the same thing. He had to have known this was the easiest way to get hooks out and just went to the hospital to get a sensational title for the views. Push it all the way through( which is way less painful that yanking out), pinch the barbs, then pull back out.
My Dad had the same thing happen behind his knee when we were fishing once. The doctor at the Urgent Care carefully worked both barbs out with forceps in one hand and a large bore needle moving things around in the other. He really knew what he was doing and there was no scalpel involved. I question the person you saw.
Only brant could turn gettin troublehooks in your leg into a plug for a sponsor "i've got not one but two trouble hooks from this "es casting metal" in my leg"
Here in North Carolina surf fishing is difficult at times also. You’re usually very successful. Many times enough for a clean and cook. I’ve had a single hook stuck before. It suxs. Glad you’re ok man. 👏👏🎣
I hope this doesn’t slow you down. I am in Perdido for the next couple of weeks and I need to make sure that someone is catching fish. It has been slow here on Johnson Beach.
RU-vid... where you can walk miles in the hot grueling sun and condense it down into a 15 minute exciting fishing video.. lol. Glad you got the hook out with no permanent damage.
Man we were down all weekend from Thursday night to supposed to be today from Kentucky. Had two charters booked for Sat & Sun. One canceled the day we got down. Never stopped raining. We tried fishing Bob Sikes Thursday night and the wind was blowing so hard, my chair would scoot 5ft when I'd get up to check my bait. We got tired of sitting in our hotel room and just called it and left yesterday. Sucks the weather has been so sucky for Gag season and in general but it is peak hurricane season. We ate good at least at Peg Leg, Jo Patti and Flounders!
That happened to me bass fishing. Caught a bass on a crank bait and I was running my buddies boat, fish jumped at the back and the crank bait flew into his knee. Had to leave immediately to go to the ER about 7 casts into the trip. You don't control random events. Glad you are ok hooks in body are never fun. May I suggest maybe a shot to numb the area next time lol.
OOOWW! I felt that! I caught a big bream that caught up in a lily pad, so I kept pulling to get it out. When it turned loose, the fish came flying at me and 3 of its dorsal spines stuck into my forearm, just below the elbow. I had to pull on the fish to get them out! Healed up cleanly, though! Hope you heal fast!
That happened to me once. I got hit in the head with a popper treble-through my hat. Now I carry a scalpel in my first aid kit. Sorry bout ur rough day Brant.
Omg! that's wild. Thank goodness I've never had that happen to me, but back in the 1960's my dad got got one in the hand, I had to help cut the eye off and push it through, not fun at all. I'm glad to know you're doing fine.
We had a fellow at our office who loved to fish small mountain streams, and he always kept a rod and some lures in his storage box on his truck. Well, he goes out one morning and instead of driving away, he comes back in and his face is as red as a pickled beet. I ask him what is the problem, and he shows me the palm of his right hand. There is a two treble hook top water bait stuck in his palm. He had tried straight pulling it out by himself just before coming in the back door of the office. I told him sit down in the adjacent office, and I went and got our tool box which contained some needle nosed pliers and a wire cutter. Then I asked him, you want to go to the ER or want me to get the two hooks out? He said go for it. So I had him hold the lure up, but not put any pressure on the treble hook that got him and I used the wire cutter to snip the two hook prongs off, so we were shed of the dangly top water bait. I asked him did you try to pull the hooks out and he said yeah, no go. So I said, well this is gonna hurt at first but then it will feel ok. Fortunately both hooks were oriented so that I got hold of one of the shanks and pushed it up and out of his skin, then grabbed it with then needle nose and pulled it right out. I looked at him and his face had started to blanche out, but the color came back. He said, that feels good now, so go for the other one! Repeated the procedure and he was, thanks thanks thanks! I then took some mercurochrome and poured it in the wounds and he stood up and did a dance, but he healed up within a couple of days and later told me I saved him the cost of a trip to the ER! The entire time it was all I could do to keep a straight face, and the only reason I did was because I knew if I started laughing he would have punched me up the side of the head! HA HA Thanks for the reality video that caused me to remember that event!
Yup, that's how it can go. Had to head to ER once with a treble deep in my thumb. Gal at counter says, "how can I help you?" I said, "I need some help with this" as I showed her the thumb... Thought she was going to pass out right there!. 🤣 Doc gave me a local, cut it out and sent me home with a stitch or two. At 200 and too many pounds, I am definitely my all time PB. Unfortunately.
Lol! There's a video of a guy that got like a 15/0 shark hook through his knee! That damn hook must have weighed half a pound!! I didn't know they made hooks that big! 😮 He had surgery and is fine btw.
Cmon Brant … I never miss your videos ! But I had two trebles in my pinky finger at Tybee island from a crazy flounder and my youngest son held me down while my oldest son yanked it out with needle nose pliers !! Suk it up mane !! Pour some vodka on it and get someone to yank it out !! Hey to each his own… I’m your fan no matter how much a woos lol
That must really have hurt! I got stuck in the rear by a hard head catfish that was swinging as it was pulled up on the pier. ( My then boyfriend was fishing) Somewhere in Florida... but too long ago to remember the town we were in. Anyway, that barb really left a nasty sting! I hope your leg heals quickly !❤
EEEEYOOOWWWEEEE Dang brother that really bites. Yeah- that will send you to the ER, BUT HEY you have an awesome story to embellish when talking to Brad's and Beach Bum's kids. The kind of story where you had to wrestle a 120lb marlin on the beach to get your lure out of his mouth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I hooked into a massive atleast 36 inch spanish off Bob Sikes a few days ago in the rain. The bait has been crazy over there the past couple weeks. Ended up with 6 keepers in 2 hours
I was out at Fort Pickens both Saturday and Sunday. Saturday I fished the gulf side and caught a massive ladyfish. Sunday a shark almost stole my brand new Penn spinfisher combo.
Takes a lot of fishing trips to put together good fishing videos. You don't score excellent fishing every time you go. It's just not happening like that. I'm 62 and been fishing since I was a toddler and was born in Taylor County, Florida. Takes a very dedicated fisherman like Brant to be successful on RU-vid. And things happen like getting hooked. Done it once or twice myself.
Ouch! My brother and I walked down into the Rio Grande Gorge to fish. It’s a tough walk, and we planned on spending the night. A fellow walked up to us and asked for help. A trout had thrown a hook back at him, and two barbs pierced his shoulder. My brother, and EMT, cut them out with a pocket knife and whiskey! We recommended the guy see a doctor, but he refused, explaining that after walking down into the gorge, he was going to stay and fish!
I feel your pain. Had a 4lb bass wiggle as I was trying to lip him, treble goes in my finger, he's still hooked and on my finger. Oh and I'm on a kayak. Not a good trip.
Don't feel bad. I had a sting ray destroy my middle finger on Labor Day. Urgent care closed, 40 more minutes to the ER. Worst part is it was my first cast.
Bro. Just cut the hooks and push the barb all the way through and pull it out by the point. I have hooked myself deep multiple times and that’s what I’ve done every time. Push alcohol through it and then neosporin and good to go!
It just wasn’t your day, was it? But, you finally hooked about a 175 pounder!! I’m just pulling your chain (or hook), but I AM sorry this happened. You certainly put it all on the line for your viewers and we appreciate it.
That sucks. I got trebles in my thumb when I was 12 many years ago, a bucketmouth shook his head and sunk hooks in me. I dropped the fish and it started flopping around, pushing the hooks in deeper. Nobody could get them out the way they went in, very painful. The way I was taught is to push them the rest of the way through and cut off the barb, and then pull the hook back through the hole.
