Actually mushrooms are useful for a lot of things besides food (such as to create vegan meat), medicine & entertainment. Musroom fibres (mycellium) are being used in industry and have recently been developed to make cardboard, "plastic" moulds for packaging, bricks for houses, furniture & other decor items etc. Mushrooms can also be used to clean up oil spills. Mushrooms are also a critical component of healthy ecosystems. Mushrooms may become critical for many human activities, together with bamboo, rattan & kelp. Mushrooms grow in the dark so are suitable for vertical & indoor farming - great for urban agriculture!
Mushrooms, bamboo, rattan, & kelp. Also, hemp. It is arguably at least just as useful as mushrooms or bamboo, if not more so. I have not heard of rattan before, and I’m not sure about how useful kelp is. Time to do some googling; thanks.
The motorcycle jacket question being 'unanswered' feels incorrect. Mushroom leather has been reported to be as strong as deer leather (stronger than cow leather). This is already known info.
I've been making my way through the entire Freethink channel for years, and the HUMOR is a huge part of why I love this channel so much. I love future tech and cultural development, but I'm not a scientist or in that space in any regard, and the humor and edutainment factor goes a long way for me. And I KNOW I'm not alone.
I despise fungi with a passion for absolutely no good reason. Every new thing I learn about them irks me even more and I refuse to talk to people about them because I don't want them to turn against mushrooms the way I did. Fungi are wonderful in so many ways and I've been waiting for consumer-ready mushroom materials for almost 2 decades. I'm glad this is already happening. I wish we get to see all Styrofoam packaging replaced within the next decade. Same with leather, construction materials, and many plastics. Although, I hold less hope for a complete replacement of those.
You're fears probably stem from the fact that mycelial networks which are a form of intelligence that we haven't really begun to understand yet. And maybe you're able to intuit the not so distant future when mycelium takes over the world because we've killed of most of the plant and animal life, flourishing by eating all of the plastic we've left behind and inhabits the remaining humans left in the world, replicating by fruiting out of our skulls. The way that Ophiocordyceps unilateralis, aka zombie-fungus does to ants. Maybe it's already happened to us in the past, maybe that's why Atlantis fell, and where we got the notion of zombies? So yeah, if you know please tell us so that we can figure out how to ward this impending fate off!
Nope, mycelium uses the water to convert nearly everything in the decaying matter into the building of its matted structure and off-gasses CO₂. Later, after a couple of weeks, we vent the mycelium to oxygen, sunlight and a light spraying of water to encourage the fruiting of the mushroom. When the mycelium block runs out of water, it stops dead in its tracks and effectively hibernates.
Polyester faux leathers are JUNK. Anyone who has ever owned a cheap pleather jacket has watched the shell dissolve into confetti in 5-10 years after purchasing. I am ALL FOR a stronger, non-animal alternative!!
The best way to get garments made from mycelium out in the public is to get the military to make uniforms, tarps or whatever out of it. Everyone will want some. For me, the smell is a big part of leather. How did it smell?
I've been hearing for this damned leather for 3 years now and not once seen an actual damned jacket!! Mostly because it's never durable like the real thing probably
Nope, quiet the opposite actually and can be classed as a flame retardant to a certain degree {side-note: and is also as waterproof as your own skin}. But, soak it in a chemical dye & sealant and the chances of it burning goes up.
There's still people that think we landed on moon? 😂 Armstrong had pretty much told you it never happened. It was a race to get there and we faked it. Who recorded the lander landing. Who did they drop off on the moon to record them landing? C'mon guys your smart people right?
While faking the moon landing might fool the majority of Americans, it wouldn't have fooled any country with large telescopes. The Soviet Union would have called us out on it. Please don't commit suicide for having your ridiculous world view debunked by an amateur astronomer.
"who did they drop off on the moon to record them landing?" Have you heard of this thing called...."cameras"? You know moon rovers are not a new thing, right?
