All I remember from my early childhood and being non-verbal or possibly not very talkative due to my autism at the time way before learning how to control it and other things, I remember being at a Chuck e Cheese and I saw someone in a costume of Chuck E. Cheese I was horrified, I don't think I cried but I hid behind my mom. It's oddly one of the VERY few thing's I remember from my childhood.

The same happened to me I was wearing a dinomask and walking down park stairs from a play structure, and this little toddler started crying and screaming. Later the parents came up and took the dinomask to show to the kid off my face so the kid could get used to it, and the kid ended up being okay then, so my situation wasn’t identical, but still similar, as I didn’t get harassed

What those parents did is literally what any normal person would in that situation. Same thing happened to me on Halloween, where a kid was crying about my horror mask so I took it off and let her wear it, and she instantly got into scaring people and wasn't even phased by it anymore.

I work at a school. This also happened to me. I went out in public with my head, paws, and tail to order some starbucks for my bandmate, Ethan. We're together and he wanted to be my 'handler' for the moment. Anyway, the cashier is a little weirded out but is okay with my appearance. But we sit down across from this dad with a son and daughter, both very young, I assume. The boy starts screaming and crying when I sit down, he then points at me and runs away. The dad stands up and yells at me before slapping my head off my head, and I'M THE PROBLEM?? I think no one was willing to do anything about it because A. I'm a furry B. Furries can be weird C. Everyone's afraid of the man but COME ON! I can't remember if it was me or my brother, but one, or both of us, used to be scared of, and cry at seeing people in costumes, it's normal, and grown adults were not expected to viciously hate and attack the people in costumes. This is so embarrassing for the people bullying this person who was just minding their business and scared a small child (who are often scared of pretty much everything (the world is new to them.))

Existing in retail literally tells me that children burst into tears over almost anything. That is just normal life. Now let me share the exact opposite. It was at the end of a parade. I was hot and tired. Sought a place to use as a headless safe zone for a bit while waiting for friends to finish the parade. This 'expectedly vacant' indoor mall should have been perfect. I hear "Hola!" and have no chance of escape as this place turned out to be the toddler storage facility for parade goers. Terror is getting caught in the only bathroom, watching this flimsy door shaking and flexing as the entire horde of children are trying to beat it down.

When I was a child, I was afraid of clowns and insects, but these things weren't banned or anything like that... I've used cosplay in public, like Ghostface and Plague Doctor, some kids were scared while others wanted to hug me, this goes for any kind of thing, one child may find a furry scary while another may find it extremely cute...(Sorry for possible errors in English, I'm not an English speaker)

i was on situation like that wen i saw a mascot of mickey mouse and i was like 13, and i was HORROFIED and i didn't know the person under the suit so it scared the hell out of me, but now days i still feel the same, But fursuiter's i feel comfier because normally people tend to talk more normal and chill and mostly, get more a lovable vibe then mascots normally i get a feel like "im inside the suit to get a pay" type of vibe now.

The funniest thing is encountering fursuiters for the first time as a little kid (my grandparents were with me and they were cool with it) was actually a really happy experience. They were doing activities with other kids in a shopping centre in Sydney and I remember them being very friendly and charming. Don’t remember what they looked like sadly (I was probably 10 or something when this happened so possibly 2005 or earlier) but that nice experience shaped my interest in the furry community going into high school. Honestly, I don’t think I would’ve discovered this community if not for those furries. I have to honestly thank them anyway. As for scary things from when I when a kid, there are probably a lot more things in my childhood movies I saw that were scarier than a fursuit. I usually think the people performing are usually genuinely just wanting to make people happy and are friendly. I can keep that in mind.

There’s an alien themed restaurant in my town. I was terrified of the old mascot because it was genuinely creepy with the realistic hands and scary stare.
