Hello! Thank you so much for having a look at Silica! Martin Melicharek here, the developer. It is always heratwarming to see people enjoy the work I do, so thank you for giving it a chance. Still a ways to go for sure but should be nice and polished in the end. Take care!
It's always nice when a developer reaches out! Hopefully I wasn't too harsh, and my insights and ideas are something that you'ld think about :) I'm in your discord, so you can hit me up if you need some ideas/advice :) Keep it up! I'm always happy to see games like this, and with some work, I'm sure it could be a huge hit!
The game was fun, but i got a refund because the idea of fighting an oversized "crab" is just... Its.... Its dumb. Lets face it, its dumb. Its a stupid concept. There, I've said it. I'm sorry.
I tried and indeed very promising game. The battles at night are some of the most epic I've seen in a game. I'm not surprised they got accepted in Bohemia incubator. The dev is clearly talented and can't wait this game to add content and polish. Key challenge will be to give FPS players a real impact beyond "it's cool" and immersive because, when surrounded by hundreds of NPCs, players playing the FPS part may feel overwhelmed and not very impactful.
boots on the ground you honestly don't do much. But in certain vehicles players are forces to be reckoned with. Buggies and Rocket trucks especially. On the alien side, the basic crab in the hands of a stealthy player is one of the most dangerous units in the game.
There he is. I hope you find something that makes you happy and enjoy talking about. 1 developer? Crazy Star Citizen as of May, 2023 has 1100 staff after almost 12 years and 3/4 of a billion dollars. Still pre-alpha tech demo marketing machine with no plan. Amazing what a single developer with a passion for what they do can achieve. Props to them
HOLY SHIT BRO. I just read your spectrum post where you linked the kick starter page I laughed so fucking hard I near pissed myself. CIG moderation is having a fucking Def-Con 1 emergency.
Hey! Great to see you enjoying Silica! Would be awesome to see more content from you and this game ;) Looks really promising. One question, did you try the air vehicles with your flight sticks or mouse and keyboard? Keep it up!
@@GrumpyEyeGaming cool, thx for clarifying. I guess they are in the game now. Was able to select them in arena mode without cheats. They need some tweaking but are fun and the sounds are cool. I am really curious what they will be like in the future.
The developer initially had a very hard time with vehicle physics and collision and it's the first thing the Bohemia Incubator offered, they shared the tech they learned in ARMA3 and Take On Mars.
wow, WOW! THIS IS AMAZING! I remember being in love with Battlezone Combat Commanded II, back when I was a kid - to this day this game remains for those who know - and those who are Men of culture! But this game here has a HUGE potential! When it releases I will buy it FOR SURE! A single developer did this? This is insane!
Lesson of the video: Game has a heckin lot of potential, but it is very early access, and could use a lot of work and patches. Besides that, it can be one heckin epic game in the future if the developers take it correctly.
You can have 64 players if you go into Arena then use the cheat commands to swap to a map of your choice and to the Strategy mode. There's tutorial videos on that!
There aren't nearly enough games that try mixing in RTS elements. Kingdom Under Fire, Spellforge and Dragon Commander were the most fun ones I've played. I'll have to keep an eye on this.
my only problem with dedi servers is if they go down, the game just dies. so many games would still be going today if they just had player hosted servers at least as an option
Savage 1 and savage 2 games did the same thing prior (20 and 15 years before) BUT i love these kinds of games. Savage 2 was the first game i bought online.(on a dvd game case) It came all the way from USA to Greece (at the time to me this was mind-blowing) I still have the scratch cards that came with the game unscratched. These games live and die by how competent is the commander. Most people do not want to be the commander. I hope the developer can add some form of ai that can take the place of the commander in case he goes missing.
since you play DayZ and silica now too you probably know about arma and it's latest EA release, arma reforger. would you give that a test play? spoiler: it got lots of issues you could go through.
this game honestly looks fun, i would probably only want to play the infantry side of things rather than being the top down commander, but it looks genuinely fun!
My main gripe with this game is it's horrible performance, I don't know what exactly causes it but in the later half of rounds my fps sometimes drops into the single digits, and I have a 4070ti... Otherwise it is incredibly fun, even if it's incredibly unbalanced, which is why I find it weird that the dev says a big focus now is on adding competetive/ranked matches...
Going to suggest a game, quite different form this actually but if you haven't played it you must, even if you do not make a video about it, it is some years old now and is called 'Chernobylite', if you haven't played it, take my suggestion and do not play with the English dub of it but instead original audio with subtitles, the English voice actors feel so misplaced It won't have a revolutionary story arc but it executes it and integrates it with the game atmosphere and the game mechanics unexpectedly well
I honestly was pretty disappointed with the direction this game was heading. It seemed to be balanced as an rts but built for fps, not as balanced towards either as natural selection or tremulus. Maybe I'll come back to it in a few years when it has more bugs beyond pathfinding errors or server lag plasma tanks, and is closer to a beta release like with Executive Assault and Sins 2.
Meh, doesnt really impress me and "made by one guy" isnt a selling point for me, if anything its a bit of a red flag. Angels Fall First is getting a big update soon. Yeah i can do without Silica.
Ulttmately this game was a big let down for me. The RTS is missing important basic functions like rally point, unit pathing is terrible. And the biggest issue is your key units are almost always gonna be used by the fps players, meaning they dont necessarily go to where you want them to go. The FPS looks and plays good, but it feels more of an unit tester. Even with frequent updates, it needs at least another year to be what it wants to be. Battlebits on the other hand is just outstanding fot a small studio and legit threatens battlefield.
It's an early access made by a single guy that just got a team for the project. It's amazing what he has acomplished by himself. It's only going to get better!
@@GrumpyEyeGaming Allow me to explain the joke: I was making a reference to Polygon (gaming news outlet) getting an exclusive preview of Doom (2016), which they screwed up by giving it to a journalist with no idea how to play FPS games, or even use a dual-analog controller. This was a highly anticipated game so a lot of eyes were on it. The journalist was basically shooting at walls by mistake and operating each joystick one at a time, so them and Polygon got flamed hard. They gave the game bad feedback, while Doom 2016 later went on to be very popular and critically acclaimed. On a more serious note, thank you for bringing attention to Silica. Blending RTS and FPS gameplay seems to be a very interesting concept, and the quality looks amazing given how few people are working on it.
The game was fun, but i got a refund because the idea of fighting an oversized "crab" is just... Its.... Its dumb. Lets face it, its dumb. Its a stupid concept.
