The Jellybingus X Jellybongus saga also strongly reminded me of it, I love those times when Dan is just like ''You wanna explain what I'm looking at, Arin?'' What was that weird soccer animal game with clearly dutch VA's again? Or was that just a fever dream?
anything but those annoying-ass 2d anime story games where they annoying read things in a high pitch is usually nice *edit: nvm this is just a 3d version
Finally!!! They are looking at the spiritual successor to one of the most popular games they’ve played on the channel The Dog Island, and oh if they thought The Dog Island was dark they are in for a terrible surprise.
I’m five minutes in, and the transition shot of that cutesy cabin immediately triggered flashbacks. Please tell me there’s a ship, pimp cat, slightly racist Siamese cat, and Lovecraftian all-consuming void to come.
Honestly I hope they DON'T play Stray. I love Arin, but I guarantee his ADHD brain would not give a single shit about the story or dialogue. A game like Stray is best enjoyed along with someone who actually pays attention.
@@GreatWightSpark Eh, it wasn't that egregious. Besides, for me the most enjoyable thing is watching other people's reactions to the characters and scenery, as well as the major events and scares. That's why I hated SuperMega's playthough. They hardly even looked at the game, they talked about random crap the entire time, and even cut out all the major plot events! Like at that point why even bother having a video at all instead of a podcast?
The funniest thing to me about this whole thing is that there is actually a completely different Petz Catz 2 that is EXACTLY what Arin and Dan were expecting. In fact, they already own it since it was played in Steam Train eight years ago.
@@Wartooth91 i also played this as a kid and it really is oddly dark. theres a shockingly creepy final battle at the very end as well as a weird supernatural sidekick and teleportation
Dog Island was the first full series I watched by the Grumps, so this feels like an old friend coming to surprise me with a visit. Please continue the hell out of this.
Same. I actually played the Dog Island as a kid, but never finished because it got convoluted and I couldn’t finish the task I was on. lmao. If I still had it, I’d finish it myself today.
@@RFlash-xc4lo tbf, in the case of Dog Island its less about being quitters and 1) not being comfortable with the interpretation of Yi Lu anymore, and 2) the story is about sick, dying dogs, and they named the MC after Dan's dog at the time, who has now passed. Other games them not finishing, yeah, that's them being quitters/letting the algorithm dictate the quality of their work. Dog Island is understandable.
I lost my absolute MIND at this moment. Even knowing the song and knowing the reference Dan was making, I just KNEW Arin was gonna be absolutely bewildered and think he was losing his mind
New Zealand was named that way by a Dutch explorer who named it after the province in The Netherlands named 'Zeeland'. Which literally translates to 'Sea Land'; the province itself has a large number of sea inlets which give it its name.
as someone who had petz dogz 2 as a kid (the exact same game but with dogs instead of cats) this was literally my favorite game. it’s so ridiculous but i love it so much. it’s also so odd the things that they decided to change between the cats and dogs versions of the game. in the dog version of the game, you pass out cookies not donuts, such an odd thing to change. really hoping this is played to the end because its pretty insane and ridiculous. theres a guy with a dead fashion designer father, a shockingly creepy final battle at the very end, a weird supernatural sidekick, magical cat beings, weird mini games against wild animals, teleportation, and more that i cant remember off the top of my head.
Same! The dog version was one of my favorite games I played over and over as a kid. It’s both nostalgic and uncanny to see the grump boys play the cat version lol.
I had the dog version of this game when I was a kid. Its the exact same game with different cat or dog models depending on what version you got. I'm glad they played the cat version because the wolf convict part of this game makes so sense when you aren't playing as a dog
It's insane to me that they sold two separate games that are the exactly the same except for the dog/cat models. I fucking loved this game as a kid lol, the lore is intense
I think he mentioned either on Game Grumps or Shuffle Master that he was in the process of learning German or had learned some German when he was in school.
You know the whole "no thoughts, just fluff" thing people say about their cats? Unfortunately, my cat has TOO many thoughts. And they all get her in trouble.
God the nostalgia on this is sublime. I got this for two dollars at the local game trade store when I was little and I spent genuine hours on this a day.
I played both this version and the dog version growing up with my sibling- the dog version is the same exact story but with dogs lmao - I am so excited for them to keep playing!!! The nostalgia is CRAZY
I went to high school in Zeeland Michigan and the town motto is "feel the zeel". When Arin asked "is it a land full of zeel?" It gave me high school flash backs.
I had Petz Dogz 2 as a kid. It was my introduction to adventure games and it was the first game I ever beat. (It's the exact same game, but with dogs). I have so many great memories with it and really hope they continue this as a series.
I used to play this game when i was little and didnt understand english. Im so happy you played this cause i didnt know what it was called, brought tears to my eyes to see it again
Just sell a kidney on the black market and use the money to bribe Arin. Or cut out your kidney, carve the name of this game into it and chuck it into their window. First option would work better but you only get one chance, so if anything choose option two and be remembered forever.
Oh my lord this game was MY CHILDHOOD; it is adorable in every way, and has the best environments to explore, great music, and awesome mini games! It’s a very addictive game that one does not simply NOT complete!
God I love that Dan's immediate reaction to the words "cops and robbers" was to sing that Tim and Eric song. I've done the exact same thing and gotten the exact same reaction way too many times lmao.
Oh my god as soon as I saw the thumbnail I knew what it'd be! I had the dog version and the music is still stuck in my head to this day. Cant believe there playing it, always wanted them to!
i was obsessed w the dog version of this so my dad bought me this one too thinking it would be different but its literally two copies of the same game just different animals
Did some research and it seems the developer of Dog Island, Yuke's, also made Petz Catz 2 for Wii and PS2! and actually, this game is *based* on Dog Island!
For anyone still confused, "-stien" rhymes with "bean", and "-stein" rhymes with "mine". And Berenstain is spelled correctly and rhymes with "brain"...I think. D:
I think a few of you may still be confused, so to help clear things up, “stien” rhymes with “keen”, as in “peachy keen”, and “stein” rhymes with “nine”, like a cat that has “nine lives”! I know it’s really difficult to figure out, but don’t worry, you’ll get it!
The Development company behind this game is wild It's like, a long history of wrestling/boxing games With a random ass dog/cat game tossed in here and there.
The mom’s directions make it sound like Dunkin would have to go on a long quest, but everyone is right there within sight of the house. She could have delivered the donuts herself. But I guess this is a good way to teach the player where all the shops are.
The Petz Dogz/Catz games are sacred to me. I used to play them over and over, as well as Dog Island. They helped me a lot as a lonely child, so seeing you guys play them brings me so much serotonin. PLEEEEASSE play more! 🥺
Both this game and The Dog Island get way darker/weirder than you could EVER expect from their cutesy exteriors LMAO... They're such a trip, and I gotta admit they're major guilty pleasure games hahaha. If you guys ever want a weird trip, you should go back to The Dog Island! It gets weird LMAO
I looked it up out of curiosity and this really was made by Yuke's, the same developers as The Dog Island. Weirdly enough though, there's a version for the Wii, PS2, DS, and PC and Yuke's only did the Wii and PS2 versions; the other two were both made by different developers and are actual pet raising simulators like you'd expect. Also, there's a dog version of Petz: Catz 2, which is probably the closest we'll ever get to a The Dog Island sequel.
10:41 I was crying laughing at this, Arin was just COMPLETELY silent like "What....is happening right now?" PLEASE don't leave this hanging like you did with Dog Island. In fact, please go back and play that entire game too.
Since we'll never see The Dog Island again (btw no one's forcing Arin to do the Yi Lu voice, so he could go back at any time), this is probably the next best thing. I'd like a full playthrough, please 🙏
Dog Island memories, but cattos. Please make this a series. 🙏 Also, Arin flexing his language knowledge to remind us that he is not simply pure chaos, but LEARNED pure chaos. And Danny singing the Uncle Muscles thing brought back fond memories of late night insomnia Adult Swim binges.
Still waiting for the end of The Dog Island 😂 but I've grown to be incredibly fond of games like this because of that playthrough, this should be incredibly fun to watch if they make a series out of it
I PLAYED THE DOG VERSION OF THIS GAME AS A CHILD AND I FUCKIN ADORE IT Also man, they literally didn't change this game at ALL between the dog and the cat version. Same character names and accessories, same environment, same bad guy too - I at least thought it would be a cat bad guy. They literally just switch the characters to cats and said BAM whole new game
It still baffles me that they somehow made an excellent movie based on an equally excellent novella with the premise being “4 kids go see a dead body”.
One of my cats is a Ragdoll! Her name is Sassy and she LIVES HER NAME to the fullest! She used to be SO snowy white with her brown feet and black face, but now she's this beautiful brown with her white and black patches and the BLUEST eyes! Wonderful breed!
God, this brings back memories! Me and my friend would play this back in elementary school. Never finished it because we never got past the infinite amount of dialog.
Im having a very weird sense of deja vu with this one. Not just because this game is basically Dog Island, but I distinctively remember Ivlet, the magic hat, cats getting donuts. It's like I've seen this all before but have no way to confirm it. I've never even played one of these games, but it feels so familiar
Well, this outta be good. Lol, Game Grumps videos are equally as chaotic as their thumbnails can be, and I'm here for it. Hope everyone has a great day!
The grumps will never know the anguish of not having a working SD card and having to start the adventure over again if you got too tired to keep playing. My sister and I have completed the Dogz one ONCE in our ENTIRE CHILDHOOD
I love my pets even when I know they are constantly plotting to bite, puke, and scratch at me. I definitely do not assume the best of them. They're gremlins.
