In the spherical geometry, when on the opposite side of the sphere from the barn it looked as if the barn was surrounding you because from that point you could travel in a “straight” line in any direction and you would reach the barn.
That's the beauty of arbitrarily defining things. It's like going outside your house by declaring that your house surrounds everything in the universe except the space you are in, which makes you outside the house. Also: it isn't strictly necessary to define lines as 'straight' if you don't feel like it. All lines are straight. Like orbits. perfectly straight lines that just happen to sometimes join with their own ends, or cross over themselves constantly.
How can you be sure that the scene Tom saw wasn't already bit-crushed into oblivion? Maybe it was SUPPOSED to look like RU-vid compressed the shit out of it. ... But probably not....right?
hello. i've just played through the game in VR. in one sitting. it's really not that bad. it's non-standard reality, but it still follows a consistent set of rules. personally I find "non-euclidean" games like antichamber that just take baseline reality and throw out the rules more confusing. but, I'm probably not a good sample. I've never had motion sickness or VR sickness in my life. I've been able to play games that make babbies die for hours straight since the first time I put on a headset.
With Tom playing this, it makes me think this would be another way that Lovecraftian games could twist perspective and make you feel like you're in a horrible eldritch realm.
Good lord this game is so dialogue heavy at the start it's incredible. But I love the concept and the later parts. EDIT: It's not just the start. I never realised how much portal and superliminal benefited from voice acting so that you could play at the same time as the dialogue happening. It's frustrating as hell.
This video made me the most uncomfortable I've been since berry milk, but the editing was top notch. Gonna go hug the floor now and be glad for Euclidean geometry for a bit.
geez, i was wondering what would be the cause of dizzyness in this game, and then tom started walking xD AND it only got worse from there lol ps: maybe check out makis adventure if you want, its pretty cool
FriendlyKat 0 seconds ago “They said the name of the game!” Star Wars end credits IM IN TEARS! I love edits that catch me off guard like that! LMAO! The editing in this was phenomenal! Josh did so well! Tom’s voices were also really great! I really enjoyed this game, as wacky as it is!
I bought this game on release! It's... not really worth the asking price, but it's very cool as a Thing That Exists. I'm hoping some modders get a hold of it and really go crazy.
Cereal first. Milk first just gives you more milk and less cereal. If I wanted more milk, I'd just pour a glass of milk. With cereal first, you get the perfect cereal to milk balance.
I simultaneously hate and am fascinated by this game. I doubt I'll ever be able to play it, just watching the video makes my head feel funny, and even hurt a bit, trying to take it all in. So unique and interesting though.
Oh shit, this is actually a game now? Last I saw it was still a proof of concept. Excited to see where they've taken it Edit: Oh, it looks much easier to handle now. In the tech demo the sky was the ground on the other side of the world and far away things looked really close. It was wild. Edit 2: I spoke too soon... Edit 3: Wow, more people in comments had trouble watching this than I expected. Actually moving around in the farm bit (tech demo had barn and a few other objects and that's it) was weird, but nothing that actually made me sick. Watching Tom play was much less weird since I had no control over the movement.
Hyperbolic geometry makes me feel like a giant but spherical geometry maks me feel like an atom fsr Other observations: Spherical geometry means your inside a sphere Hyperbolic means your outside a sphere Even though the real thing is not a sphere
...my brain... ;w; very cute tho, defo looking forward to more. hope you took care of yourself during this, can't imagine being able to do all that in one sitting!
Non-euclidean - Anything outside the realm of euclidean geometry. IE, spheres and hyperbolics. This game is called Hyperbolica. I will let you consider what you said, Tom.
I have watched several videos of this. In no way this bothers me or confuses me... i think something is wrong with my brain. I dont feel dizzy or whatever.
wait platonic - solids ?? you know there are other perfectly simetrical solids . . if you use a differend point of wiew like the Great stellated dodecahedron for example . that is built out 5point star polygons and YES that's the shape with bad reputation there's a BUNCH more aswell but they get more are more confusing as you progress away from the simplicity of platonic solids and into the confuzing workarounds of "dark geometry" teritory
Daily reminder that Tom is an amazing person and to thank him for all he has done/will do - Day 863 Oh now this is a nifty game :D cute style, fun comedy, cool idea :D really sweet I can't wait for Tom to play more, just grand also oof those Rocket Skis XD Also, love how the RU-vid was used to advertise Tom XD ha ha
The REAL question is, "Is this actually a hyperbolic 3-space, or is the developer misusing a science/math/technical term to sound smart?" Real answers only please. Remember to show your work/proof. And no copy/pasting from Wikipedia. That's not how we learn in this class. This will be on the exam.
The game uses H³ for rendering but uses H²xR for physics, ie, hyperbolic horizontally, but euclidean vertically. This was to prevent having to deal with vertical holonomy. Spherical geometry uses S³. All dimensions are spherical.
