This Game Really Almost Knocked My Eyes Out 

Greg Chun has played two detectives that investigate serial killings with victims that get their eye(s) removed, and I think that’s pretty hilarious

I still can't believe the game that made me cry, is also the one where a man screams porno mag with deep passion.

Me at the start of the game: Wow Date is so cool, both design wise and voice wise. I love him so much already Later: Wow Date is such a loser, please go and touch some grass, your puns are not funny you manchild I love him even more now, please keep being you.

I can tell that a lot of the voice actors had a absolute blast voicing these characters. Especially with Greg Chun voicing the one of a kind protagonist Date

you know what's ironic, iris was technically hanging with both her adopted father and her brother at the same time

The saddest thing about this playthrough is that Crystal didn't get to know Date and Kaniza's whole thing about forgetting the latter's name was bs and they were playing along because she interacted with the corpse before Konami T^T

If I had a nickel for every game release in the summer of 2019 where Greg Chun plays a Japanese detective investigating murders involving ocular trauma, I'd have two nickels which isn't a lot, but it's weird it happened twice.

So thrilled to see more and more people discovering The Somnium Files. If you enjoyed this one, I highly recommend the Zero Escape games, which had the same director as this game.

I love the opening cutscene of this game. It's not rare in my experience for a mystery story to open with a shot of the first or one of the first victims, but there is just something about the music, the way the camera moves, and just the general atmosphere of the cutscene that makes it... HIT, ya know? It's something that, in my opinion, this game does better than the first Danganronpa game. Jin's execution as an opening cutscene is wild, mind boggling, shocking, disturbing, and a host of other things, but it's also made comedic as is the Danganronpa style outside of V3. That slight funny aspect always kinda bogs down the executions for me as opposed to the body discoveries which are always treated seriously. With the executions it's something you know is horrible, but the comedic elements make it hard to feel that same impact. That's the case with Jin's execution, and as our first look into the tone of the game, it does a damn good job establishing how off the tone can be due to Monokuma's twisted humor, but lacks the impact a character's death should have, even if it is an unknown one. With Shoko it feels like the inverse. This game suffers a bit with keeping a consistent tone with what the opening cutscene lays out with all the dreary seriousness being off set by a game that's frankly a bit too oversaturated with puns and comedy that can get old pretty fast. There's a reason Monokuma stopped making bear puns before the prologue even ended. In return, all the deaths have a proper impact that isn't degraded by any comedic elements during said deaths. All in all, both openings are great, but I do gotta give the victory to AI:TSF for making me feel much more immersed in the game right out the gate. Also, shouts out to the GODLY music in this game.
