I guess the worst design decision was to put the right stick right downside the buttons. That’s something that bothers me a lot on the RG35XX H and also on the RG556. Although it may look nice and cozy, its not very good when you’re using it for too long
@@ElisBuenas82 I think a more glaring problem in this device is that sharp corner. You can see in many of the shots (1:48 for example) it digs into your index finger. Maybe if you dont use the R2/L2 buttons in your games, your 2nd knuckle of your index finger will rest awkwardly in the corners.. While its not anything big like scratching the skins of your fingers, this will surely fatigue your hands in any appreciable gaming time. I think a better ergonomic while keeping the sleek design is round those corners off. Like a wii remote perhaps could be interesting both looking sleek and compact.
@@TechDweeb must tell you that you and RGC are my go to for retro device videos. I love that you and Russ have your own style, and have different things you like about these devices. Keep it up dude.
I'm going to buy this for my wife's boyfriend Steve so just maybe he'll let me sleep in the house again. C'mon Steve... I made you eggs for breakfast and even burnt the bacon just how you like it.
More than 100K subscribers, top notch quality content as always, TD is the pinnacle of retro entertainment! We relax, we get to know new stuff, we laugh, traveling through histories...
Dude I didn’t know I wanted these micro devices until I got a Miyoo A30 - but they are SUPRISINGLY comfortable….I just want a bigger screen now, but micro size!
My two favorite emulators are the Anbernic RG28XX and the RG Cube. This is like if I left them in the same drawer together over a long weekend and they had a baby out of wedlock. Fascinating
Because of you, I decided to bite the bullet and buy the GBA SP handheld clone and haven't been able to put it down for a while ever since it arrived. I can finally play Drill Dozer without having to sacrifice groceries. That and THAT intro just earned you a sub 😊😂👌
Making me excited to get mine. Definitely expensive for something that's going to be a GBA device 90% of the time for me. But that 4x integer scale is going to be so nice
That battery pack is a really cute design. It would be amazing if they turned that into a dock or something. It would complete the oldschool console+controllers image.
Your battery life tests impressed me. Was expecting it to be much worse. Still, I’m really eyeing the Retroid Pocket Mini for now. Would be curious to see how they stack up against each other. I’m pretty sure the Retroid will be better overall, but it’s also probably chunkier and less pocketable.
Wait you said Russ from RGC was giving you free handhelds and then you release this review? What if Russ is actually Ayaneo???? Ive never seem them both at the same time😮
Eh, idk. Gameboy Micro design-wise, I think I actually prefer the Miyoo A30. The glossy front does look nice but it's like the top screen of the old 3DS: a fingerprint magnet.
On the one hand, if you were to buy a Gameboy Micro (and maybe a flash cart), I think you'd be in for well over $200---if playing GBA games was your goal. So this is a good value in a sense. But I would have happily gone for a cheaper processor and doing away with the thumb sticks to get a lower price. That said, no headphone jack is a deal-breaker for me. One of the appeals of a micro device like this for me (and I used to own a Play-Yan!) is the ability to listen to music with it. Thanks for checking it out for us TD
I've been wanting a premium small handheld with no thumb sticks. I mostly want a GBA device that I could play up to like snes. And this is honestly cheaper than modding a GBA /sp and getting a flashcart So, its so close for me but I don't knwo
Thanks for being honest about how much work it is to set up an Android device, it really is a weekend project and who the heck wants to spend a weekend not playing games.
was really excited for this but now ive pretty much decided my next pickup will be the retroid pocket mini. going to wait for reviews and such to come out. also saw a podcast last night where someone from retroid hinted that a gamecube colorway for the mini isnt outside the realm of possibility... i seriously became dissapointed with my 35xx h. its just developed more and more problems over time
I’m an owner of the RG28XX, which I love to stick in my bag for anywhere and have lately been using it on the stationary bike at the gym. But its lack of sticks limits the PSone and on. This looks like a luxurious upgrade. But I have some other high-end stuff (RG405V, Switch, Steam Deck), so this isn’t for me - until it gets cheaper and/or something I own breaks. Also, bummer re: headphone jack and HDMI out.
I wonder if you could do a custom colored silicon mat with the measurements on it. Black with orange lines? Would look sick, and you could set it down for us to measure ourselves. Or get yourself an Adam Savage style ruler tattoo lol
So my issue with this. The rp5 mini is also 200 dollars, has a 3.7 inch screen that is oled, and I'm pretty sure has a better processor. Should note the screen is 4:3 though.
I'd love to see something like this try shoulder buttons like the wii classic controller. Inline with the analog on the outside and digital on the inside I think it would be a great way to get analog triggers on pocketable handhelds.
This looks super sleek. Its a little too rich for my budget, so I'd love to see a Miyio A30 video. Maybe comparison? It would be super interestign to see how a device that is literally 1/6th the price compares
Looks pretty cool. I love it's sleek and premium design. I'll still stick with my RG Cube for GameCube and PS2 games cause of how ergonomic it is. But this is definitely something people should look into if they prefer a smaller device that's just as powerful.
@@beldin3013 I'll have to see size comparisons, I know the specs, but at that size those extra 10mm makes a big difference that a side by side will show better. As well as having protruding triggers, curved back, and the same kind of protruding analog sticks. I am not a fan of the micro though for many other reasons, but it does seem smaller in general. Neither feels like a true mini imo
Performance wise yeah it could hurt this, but quality wise this wins it. Retroid tends to have a ton of issues when they release a device. I'd pay more for quality.
@@ExiledRetro Based on track record, yeah maybe. But based on specs this thing has NOTHING on the RP mini - better SoC, bigger screen, faster storage (UFS3.1 vs 2.2), better WiFi, less weight, ergonomic grip, WAY better triggers, better sticks, front-firing speakers, and there might be more.
I initially pre-ordered it but then canceled when a review came out that it wasn't great for PS2 games because it's not as powerful as the T820, I canceled and went with RG Cube, and am much more happy with my decision.
I think the size of the battery means you need to carry a power bank and negates the pocketability of the form factor for such a powerful device. Still an awesome device but if you want that much processing power without the inconvenience I think the RG406V is going to be an overall better choice. Just my thoughts.
Someone on etsy need to make a 3D printed front cover/grip case just like the rp4 pro one so the joystick will be cover flat and joystick not too out and can still put inside pocket
Now i have enough handhelds to play anything i want & with tons of retro handhelds on the market, the main reason i wanna buy it is the design. This one is simply beautiful handheld.
Except for majority of PS2 games because the emulator is dead.... Doesn't matter the power when none of it can run the burnout games or zone of the enders games without significant issues
i still cant fathom why they put the pause and start in absurd locations on some of these devices. the location on my retroid pocket two for these buttons is enough to make me stop using the device out of sheer discontent for the placement of the two buttons. for certain retro games there are essential controls! (selecting missiles in metroid, character order in og final fantasy, kirby to exhale abilities on the NES alone)
I know there aren't any handheld both current and future that is one to beat all but this... I'm intrigued. The sleek design... I want it. Possibly the one that going to make me stop buying these handhelds lol
