Looking floor a smaller sae and metric ratchet set to have in your go bag or to put in your toolkit. This set from Gearwrech is very affordable but also its ratchet isn’t new to the marketplace. You might be shocked where they stole it from.

Don’t got any problem with low tooth count ratchets, I’m a mechanic and my daily driver ratchets are all old school 36 tooth craftsman units, low back drag and slop is my only criteria

@@ThingsMen cool, yeah craftsman sears wasn't a manufacturer so you will see lots of craftsman design with other brands. Some even updating the tooth count like crescent did with a 60t gear, or the old matco 88t.

Not a bad set to keep in the car. A 45 tooth ratchet is great for general use and stronger than a lot of the modern high tooth count ratchets.

@@ThingsMen yeah Gearwrench for me has been pretty hit and miss. I’ve mentioned a rusting socket on my channel. Never used it. It was sitting in the case on my bench too and just rusted. Nothing else in the set. Just that one socket. Lol Also, I have a ways to go with editing 😆

I wonder how little silicone plugs would work through the holes to hold the sockets. A squeeze type retention. I'm worried about screws dropping out in the driveway. I know you can pick up a plug kit of different sizes at Harbor Freight.

I don’t think any of my SAE Gearwrench have any knurling but I’ll have to look when I get home. Nice that they added that extension. Only way I’d like it more is if it also locked. Now, have you broken one of those without adding a cheater to the ratchet handle?
@ThingsMen
@ThingsMen 28 дней назад
Yea, ill have to dig out some old socket sets myself as i cannot recall. I'm not sold on locking extensions just yet, but they do occasionally have their place. I'm guilty of cheater bars. In case you didn't notice that Craftsman wrench has a nice thin handle that's ready for cheater bar abuse. :)
@gtcam723
@gtcam723 28 дней назад
@@ThingsMen for me, locking extensions are because I hate it when the socket gets stuck in whatever place required me to use the extension. Lol Also, not to sure I like GW’s due to the plastic in them. Lol I suspected when you mentioned breaking those.

Believe it or not the 9mm & 16mm show up at the most random times in automotive repair, especially on brake systems. Not digging the sockets are 12 point in that set. I do like the lower tooth count for durability and dependability, this is the kind of buy you keep in your trunk. Every time I look at GearWrench ratchets on Amazon or Home Depot etc they're like $70-90 a piece which seems ridiculous considering they're made by the same Apex as everyone else. In my opinion the Icon stuff is nicer than GearWrench in just about every way and costs half as much.
@ThingsMen
@ThingsMen 28 дней назад
@@COBRO98 yea they pop up at the most opportune moments. Buying ratchets one by one is expensive. I like to buy in sets usually. You could also buy Sata as they have the exact same ratchets at lower prices. Icon makes some good stuff too but the quality control can be bad and taper off over time. That’s the big downside.
@COBRO98
@COBRO98 27 дней назад
@@ThingsMen I know Icon does their QC in California before it's shipped out, if they ever tighten it up they'll put the hurt on companies like Snap-On/GearWrench & I say that with a straight face. Personally I haven't had an issue with any of my Icon ratchets over several years now. I've been eye-balling that 3 piece ratchet set from Capri.. that 25" ratchet is the perfect excuse to snap some bolt heads off👻

I bought the 1/2 version at tractor supply a couple weeks ago, only difference was the ratchet is a 72tooth. I’ve used it some and haven’t had any real bad issues, but have noticed the gearing feels pretty sloppy. So, i bought the kit to repair a 90tooth ratchet and swapped the anvil and paw out. Works perfect now.
