One of the most revered ancient sites in China is carved out of the side of Mount Emei. It's known as the Leshan Giant Buddha, and took 90 years to build until it was completed in 803 AD.

I love that I can say I've visited the Leshan Buddha twice! One fascinating thing I learned about it is how the creators made sure that water wouldn't erode the statue away so quickly. They created a system of tubes for drainage in the mountainside behind the statue, which also sits away from the cliff face so the only water that can affect it is the rain. Fascinating stuff.

This statue (233ft) is taller than the statue on liberty island (151ft) if you don't count the pedestal the liberty island statue stands on (total 305ft)

in fact, it got serviced and renovated three times during the 1970s, which is era of the cultural revolution, by the goverment. the cultural revolution was kind of like how SJWs got too much power, freedom and democracy.

There have been multiple renovation projects. The statue in the 80s were in a much poorer state and paint was all cracking.

Are we sure the origional statue was Buddha? Why was the entire structure covered in plaster? A wooden nose? Every statue in the region without exception is exquisitely carved and bears perfect resemblance to Buddha. Now that the Covid Relief Bill is giving millions to you guys, maybe now you can look into this?
