These lyrics don't make any sense if that is what this song is about. You can interpret it however you want but the song is clearly about a significant other that chose to go explore everything else but the person that loved them that missed it all because they were looking for theirselves Somewhere Out There.

Really glad you listened to this song! Drops of Jupiter was written about his mother after she had passed away from cancer mixed with feelings from the time she was struggling, now free. He said it kind of just came to him, partly in a dream. Rob Thomas of Matchbox20 also did a song about his mother's cancer when he was an adolescent called 3 a.m. (NF covered this song). His experience as a child seems to be a bit rough, but the song is from that time as an adolescent when he was trying to take care of her as everyone else had split and deal with the cards he was dealt. Other Train songs: Meet Virginia, Calling All Angels and Hey, Soul Sister.

I lived in Erie PA for about a decade in the mid 90's to early 2000's. The coolest thing in the world was pulling up to a light on Peach Street (if you are from the area, you know what that's like on a Friday night), and Pat Monahan, who was home visiting, pulled up next to me. I beeped and waved, and he gave a big smile and waved back. Cool dude from my second hometown.

This song always makes me think of the nights spent outside with an astronomer friend and her teenage son, who once dedicated this song to his mom on the radio for her birthday. He died just a few short years later, and I no longer have time to spend my nights in a field with a telescope, but when I hear it I think about those days, his smile, his mother, how life changed over time for all of us, how lucky I am that my life still has a chance to change...

The line, "She checks out Mozart while she does Tae Bo" is a really cool nod for fans from his home town of Erie Pa. Tai Bo was invented by Billy Blanks, martial artist and actor, who is also from Erie PA, just like Pat Monahan. The deep fried chicken line might be a reference to Church's Fried Chicken, which was an institution in Erie. The Church's learned the recipe from THE Colonel Harland Sanders (of KFC) while he rocked their baby in a rocking chair. Just a lot of cool nods to his hometown in this, and a great tribute to his mom.

My understanding is that "Calling All Angels" was about his mom? In this song he talks about being a barista when he was high school. There was a girl who would come into the coffee shop every day before her yoga class and order a soy latte("...the best soy latte that you ever had in me...") She was beautiful and he was too shy to ask her out. When he finally worked up the courage, she said sorry, but she couldnt go out with him because she "couldnt get past the scar on your chin"("...one without a permanent scar..."). He was crushed and he never forgot that. Thats the way I remember the interview. By the way, Pat was in a Led Zeppelin cover band when he was in high school. There used to be concert footage of TRAIN doing "Whole Lotta Love" in Atlanta on here, that was really good. Happy holidays! Peace!
