Yeah, it says that the expensive boutique bridge is garbage… literally disabled/made unusable from a small piece of debris… that’s terrible that replacing the entire system was the easier thing to do than clean/fix it.
@maxpeck4154
@maxpeck4154 2 года назад
wasn't the bridge, it was the vibrato. The tolerances are super tight and the arm snaps into place, unlike SOME Fender equivalents that merely push into place, clunk and rattle, etc. Its not "boutique" per se, it's a much better version of the offset vibrato mousetrap. A blast of canned air likely would've remedied the issue, but Novo did the good faith thing and replaced it. And Rhett is right, you are not supposed to remove it. Leave it in when cased. I have one on my JM and it's glorious.

Robert the thing with the Novo, at least the Serus J, is that it is so nice to play right away but then it grows on you even more afterwards. It is a musicians guitar. I would have never thought I would own a "pine" guitar. I have 40ish guitars, none are pine, but I'm now a believer. I have one of the last non distressed ones that Novo was offering. It's an Ice Blue Metallic and I sprung for block inlays and neck binding, I went with Lollar Minis. It is a phenomenal guitar.

This is such a wonderful video! My Novo Serus J was made at the same time that yours was. Novo even posted a picture of our guitars together way back when. I got mine in a very similar manner. I played it at CME, and I instantly knew I had to have it, but I didn’t have the money. I live 2 hours from Chicago, so I went home very saddened. I just couldn’t get the guitar out of my mind, so the next weekend I drove back to Chicago, traded 4 of my guitars and paid some money on top, but I got it! It was a joyous event, and I adore the guitar to this day. It was originally made for Josh Scott at JHS, but he didn’t like the amber tint coat over the Olympic White, so he sent it back after using it as a demo guitar at NAMM that year. Dennis then sold it to CME, luckily, so now it is one of the best guitars that I have ever played/owned. Mine has three Porter A90 pickups. Novo forever!

Some guitars have that extra 10% and you just have to buy them. I've almost exclusively played the same Les Paul for the past 27 years, but that changed earlier this year when I found the best Strat I've ever played in my life. It also happens to be the best guitar I've ever played too - it has vibe in spades. This is coming from a guy who never got on with Strats my whole life, and now my main guitar is a Strat.
@CorbCorbin
@CorbCorbin 2 года назад
I came across a 98’ Fender Strat, that was a stock American standard from that year, and it just had a feel that was perfect, and I thought it sounded great through any amp I used. A friend owned it, and he ended up giving it to me for what he paid for it, and I’ve played it for over a decade now. It’s what I compare any other guitar I’m playing or thinking about buying. There are mods that most people do with them, but I’ve kept it stock and it’s only needed soldering or work of any kind once. I fix the action or have it setup when it’s time, but it stays in tune really well, and the action is just excellent.
@jeebusyaweirdo3733
@jeebusyaweirdo3733 2 года назад
Before I say what I’m gonna say I mark this situation down as a fluke. I am not a master builder, and it just worked out perfect. The only guitar I’ve found that has that extra 10% for me is the one that I made myself, and I’m glad that it worked out like that. Not a partscaster or any of that, actually handmade it. I’ve made a couple others since, but none have had the wow factor of that first build I did.

I tried to like Strats, but the tone isn't really my thing, but it definitely has its place. Despite that, the only reason I dont own one anyway is the volume pot placement,..The knob is tragically in my way. It is a deal breaker. I've been playing for 39 years and live gigging for the past 26 years and know countless players that have the exact same issue that I have with the Strat.
@Tone2town
@Tone2town 2 года назад
One of my best sounding and playing guitars is a early 90s’ Mexican strat made of poplar wood with SD-1 Korean knock offs. I have had musicians play it that have Shurs, etc. They are surprised of the feel of it . It is hard to find that extra 10% from a variety of guitars .

Hearing this makes me feel lucky, I spent years with all sorts of guitars till I bought a cheap Squier Telecaster from a catalogue, I bought it to give to a student but couldn't part with it, I was playing it all the time, not even plugged in. I've switched the electronics out since and gave one of my other guitars to my young guitar student who has since gone to college to study music. And the Squier is still my No 1.

Hell yes! I'm primarily a bass player, and the bass I play the most ('cause I can't keep my hands off it) is a 2009 Squier J-bass that I paid $75 for; it's also red, damn it, and I have always hated red guitars & basses! It's easily the best Jazz I've ever played, Fender, Squier or whatever...

Great story and great advice about listening to that inner voice. I'm going through a similar situation. Last year I was going to buy a Godin with P90s when the pandemic hit. I saw one in the local music store here in Montreal. A friend said a band mate of his worked at Godin and I could probably get a deal on the one I wanted. While we were trying to connect to make it happen, I was visiting friends in Quebec City where I stopped by the local music store and on the wall was a PRS 30th anniversary Hollowbody SE. My wife suggested I try it. I played one chord and new it was special. After about ten minutes, I knew it was the one. It immediately became my new number one. I'll be launching my own RU-vid channel very soon. I would have already done it but I landed a role in a movie I couldn't pass up so I have to figure out how to juggle it all.

Great story man! I'm brazilian and left handed, so finding a guitar is almost impossible. Generally, there's those beginners with cost 50 USD and ordered Fenders or Gibsons that can cost more than a popular car in Brazil. So, living is São Paulo had it good side. I found I guy selling a Fender Tele Mex for a fair price, rushed to send a massage, finished to work early and basically ran where he was (working close to my house and he had the guitar). I played the "Shine On you Crazy..." lick and just transferred the money. I can't part with my Tele now.

I strummed it and it was twice as loud as any of the other telecasters in the shop even the custom shop ones. Idk it was like it was alive. I have a how I found "My #1" guitar story, except it's about my #1 Bass. I happened to see a video of Geddy Lee talking about his new Signature Fender Jazz Bass. I was impressed with how he described how he found his "#1" 1972 Jazz Bass, and how he felt he very accurately duplicated this bass with Fender's expert help. I had to have one, but could not afford it at the time. Fortunately I found a new, "Open Box", returned item, Geddy Lee Jazz Bass that I could barely afford. I bought it, but it arrived in damaged condition. It smelled very, very smokey, like it had somehow survived a house fire. I played it, and it sounded magnificent! I kept it and spent weeks polishing the smokey smell out of this truly unique "fire survivor." I have more money now, and have bought several Jazz Basses, and NOTHING sounds and plays (even unplugged) like that bass. It will forever be my very incredible sounding/playing "#1."

Thanks for sharing your story Rhett! This is my first video on your channel, but I have watched you on Rick Beato many times and enjoyed your insight on many subjects of music, etc. I'm now subscribed and looking forward to seeing you grow and perform and teach as you share with us your vision. The best to you and your dear wife! Have a wonderful week!

Something about you calms me down the way you explain things you're down to earthiness never heard of that guitar but love the way it sounds and looks and I know exactly what you mean about that moment when something you play is special feeling

Thats a really beautiful guitar, buddy. I am a lifelong P-90 enthusiast and you have really made me want one of these. I think all of that wood mass contributes massively to the sound. Beautifully built. Have been a fan of Dennis' work for a while without having bought anything from him.
