I found a guitar in a dumpster that a construction crew was using in Manhattan one time. The foreman told me a resident asked if he could throw some trash in it, and this old Dean flying Vx was thrown out. I took it home and everything worked fine. As a matter of fact it worked so well that the only thing I did was change the strings and installed new pickups and it's still one of my favorite guitars to this day.

My dad once made an acoustic guitar in 1952 to relieve the boredom of being a lighthouse keeper. I found it in an attic in a very bad state of repair. I took it to a friend who renovated it. I will be going to collect it sometime this year. It's never played rock and roll but it's going to.

I just watched the Andertons vid, I really enjoyed it, I just want to say I'm 70 years old and have always wanted to play the guitar and have messed around for years, but you have given me the inspiration to try and master it, I have a Mexican Strat that a lady friend gave to me years ago she said learn to play the blues for me , so that's what I'm going to do. My 100 2x12 Katana Mk 2 arrived yesterday 8th June my guitar sounds really good through it ,it brought tears to my eyes I am finally getting the sound I have been searching for, I also got myself a Boss rc500 looper so I'm looking forward to having some fun with that 😀 anyway thank you so much for doing what you do , I'm looking forward to catching up on your videos and learning from you. 😃😃😃

From the States here. I have a '72 Harmony Rocket that a friend found in a trash can. No strings, split bottom bout, 6 inches both sides of the strap peg. Used some glue a friend uses to build airplane models. A little bit on with some spray stuff, hand held and it's still together years later. A paid a guy $50 to get it playing. Sounds and plays amazingly. Only thing it doesn't have correct knobs. Should be gold top over cream. 2 each volume and tone. I have all black. Felt good to save a nice old relic.

Dave, this Bin-o-Face is a 1964 Teisco Del Rey VN-2 Baritone Made in Japan only for 1 Year electric guitar. I saw one in good used condition on Reverb Sold at $599. Lots of words spoken about the pickups being used by various major players. Surprise…seems you got a Japanese wonder. And yes it was Sunburst.

A quick searchy revealed that Guyatone and Lindell also sold this model, they were probably all made in the same factory and just OEM branded for whoever was selling them
@ZephyrRheinbrohl
@ZephyrRheinbrohl 4 месяца назад
FUN FACT: It is sold as Lindell VN-2 in Europe (Del Ray was brand name only for USA) and, even if it is pure-blooded Teisco, it was made by Fujigen Gakki as subcontractor of Teisco. Really, really rare under all brand names she was sold. Great catch, even better than my 1976 Luxor SG made by Kasuga Gakki, also found in trash :)

I think it is a Guyatone looking at the used tremelo i have a trem like that from a badly mistreated guyatone Broadway that was beyond rescuing, like on Dave's the cover is gone, Teisco used another model, the problem with these guitars is that when the nameplate is gone everybody is going for Teisco because they are more valuable, even later Kawai's can be found named teisco.
@ZephyrRheinbrohl
@ZephyrRheinbrohl 3 месяца назад
@@wietseterpstra8295 Sure that you can find Kawai named Teisco, because Kawai bought "Teisco" brand in late 1967. Used it for export guitars till late 1969, and for domestic, japanese, market till 1977.

In America we call it a "pickguard" as opposed to a "scratch plate". The ironic thing is with an old guitar the scratches caused by a lack of a guard or plate takes away zero value as long as everything is original. However, if the original guard or plate is included it increases value being these pickguards/scratchplates are rare and pricey to obtain, if any still exist..

Hilarious video Dave. My mate works at our local tip (refuse site) in Manchester, last year he turned up at my gaff with scar full of Tip guitars / Bin guitars! There was about 15 elec guitars, a couple SG copies, old starts, tele’s. Madly 12 worked right outta the bin, needed a bit of clean and tarting up without having to spend any cash on them. The other three need a few wires soldering back to the jack socket and then worked. He also turned up with 6 x Fender 10w/15w practice amps, straight away nothing wrong and all worked!! I ended up giving most of them away to mates or kids I know who said they wanted to lean to play guitar. Cos I gave people a guitar and amp for free, I think everyone came back a day or two after giving me £20-£30 for being such a nice guy! Haha! Honestly I said didn’t want any cash but everyone insisted I take the cash. To be fair I was struggling and skint but still didn’t want money but made me take the cash in the end. It felt good to do a good thing for quite a few people and they all loved the guitars & amps and really appreciated what I’d done. It’s mad what people decide to throw away when nothing wrong. Nice one Dave take it easy.

It is VERY close to the first electric guitar I picked up over at my buddies place when I was I think 12 years old and proceeded to play the MIGHTY "SMOKE ON THE WATER". Incorrectly of course as I knew Nothing about guitars at that time yet. I went on to play and tour North America in hundreds and hundreds of small towns over years and years of playing Throughout the USA and Canada. Singing and Leading I was front man and Guitar man the group and living the music. All started on a guitar almost exactly like THAT ONE!! SO COOL!! EDIT: I need to learn to wait until the video is over before I comment. LOL. Sorry.

I more or less dumpster found a 1969 Gibson SG. The neck and body were separated and there was very scant hardware. I had no idea what it was at 1st because I am a Fender guy. But after some google image foo and serial number research I was like..."SCORE!!!"... and have been ebaying the rest of the parts since. 98% there after 6 years lol.
@whichgodofthousandsmeansno5306
@whichgodofthousandsmeansno5306 3 месяца назад
Should add. It has been taking so long because I have been very patient waiting for the best deal on parts and sometimes "last second" bid action. The only down side is there is a body repair by the neck pocket but the neck and headstock are 100% never cracked. In 69 all SG standards were a transparent cherry or brown. So, I can pay to have the repair area "faux-painted", or just go with black as if it were a Custom.

I notice you have some Hendrix photos in the background. Ironically, where I got that SG from was also in the same bin a scrap book with notes and clippings from some kind of music journalist back in the day. In there was an original 8 X 10 of Hendrix at some unknown gig. I gave that to my sister but wonder if this SG is somehow connected to Hendrix in some way. I see no way to authenticate but it does add a layer of mystic to the whole thing.

Great and entertaining video, Dave. Thank you for that, sir. A fellow I knew, Mikey, was a janitor at the local Army airfield. He had found a beat-up, broken Epiphone Les Paul in a dumpster a few years ago. He brought it to me directly, hoping I could make it work. I glued, clamped, and set the neck (the neck had separated from the rosewood fingerboard for some reason.) Cleaned out all the electronics with DeOxit. I purchased a new tailpiece and tune-o-matic bridge, as the old ones were missing. Polished it, restrung it, and did a nice set-up. The guitar was lovely, and worked just fine! Mikey and his wife were unbelievably happy with the guitar, naturally. I didn't charge them a dime. Sadly, Mikey passed away from a heart attack a year later, at age 40. At the memorial service, his wife let me know that their young son was taking over the guitar, and intended to keep it forever, in memory of his father.

Yorkshireman here It's your guitar, obviously . But, don't, just don't, put a bloody gibbo tail piece anywhere near that instrument It would be just wrong , Bigsby knock off by all means, but not a stop tail

It'll be in the bin because charity shops can't test it. There's some good stuff in charity shop skips. I pulled an xbox 360 out one.

360 xboxes? Wow they really must have been hard to sell
@TiberiusWallace
@TiberiusWallace 4 месяца назад
@@areyouavinalaff It didn't have a PAT test sticker so i think it was they they didn't even try to sell it. You'll notice there's very select charity shops that will sell anything electrical at all, not even a lamp, because they must have the PAT tested. This Xbox was the black elite model, even had a copy of Fable II stuck in it,

Or because they simply couldn't sell it. The charity shop near me reduces stuff as much as they can and if it doesn't go they have no choice but to bin it to make room for new stock. I've pulled all sorts of stuff out of that charity shop's bin. I actually got a Gibson Dove copy from there for £25, almost wish I'd left it a few days and just pulled it out their bin! Haha.

that fretboard looks a helluva lot of better than it did. I like the inlay design. Looks like it'd be a beautiful guitar once its finished.

Their is a good reason why that guitar from 1964 has ended up in your hands. 1964!! That's sixty years. Just think, It has sat idly by in dark and dusty corner's of someone's house, garage, loft etc as the rest of the world continued to evolve around it. Spiritually speaking, That guitar has a little bit of someone's soul and passion in it, because it was saved from a journey to the compost heap. Breath some much needed love and life into that guitar Dave sir. I think it's earned it.

You have “found” an amazing piece of history. I have restored some old 60s Japanese guitars and there are some unique tones for the world to hear. I’m a big fan of the 60s gold foils. I do have a few friends who love those pups on yours. Enjoy and thanks for the save. Beauty!!!!

i have remarked before that i love these "crappy" guitars (thats what guitar snobs think anyway ) they always have a sound and feel of their own , i love my Watkins rapier 33 with fixed neck it plays lovely and easy with nice early rock and or roll tones
