Blake's 7 ship (Liberator) was something quite a few kids were building out of Legos in my kindergarten group, always comparing who got it the closest to the original. Only 1 series was shown unfortunately back in former Yugoslavia so we were left with a cliffhanger predicting Liberator's demise, never knowing what happened later. As a consolation, the Friday 8pm timeslot was then taken over by Battlestar Galactica so we switched to roleplaying Starbuck and Apollo and building Lego Vipers (and spending vast amounts of paper and crayon drawing the Galactica and the Vipers).
17:19 Ladyfractic needs to know that now that Babyfractic has been born, Perifractic has leveled up to Dadfractic and is now compelled to belt out Dad Jokes whenever possible. He won't even know he's doing it, it just happens.
"Another outstanding show, as always! You all have a remarkable way of transporting us back to a time when life seemed simpler. I know things weren’t perfect, but growing up and raising a family felt less stressful, with weekends spent having fun and playing with friends. For 30 minutes, I’m completely immersed in the 1980s-almost like stepping into the TARDIS for a nostalgic ride. Thank you, Perifractic family, for the memories and the joy!"
Everything is turning retro, eventually, as high end systems goes into reality. The juxtaposition between retro experience and SimScape, makes one great nostalgic dreamscape. (If we want to play physical platform games, old style, retro places is the thing). I love you guys, you are doing great.
I see you've been suitably berated for those Blake's 7 errors! I was a huge fan, although some of the darkness washed over when watching as a kid. Rewatching it today was a revelation, especially regarding the crime they framed Blake with to get rid of him. Pretty heavy stuff for teatime...
I loved Blake's 7!! Watched it on my local PBS station when I was a kid. Sadly I missed 1 episode when I was out on a camping trip one weekend. A few years later, I saw it out on VHS, but for around $70 per tape and say No Thanks to that! I'm glad to see a high quality version is out now for much less money!
Oh yes Blake's 7! I'm going to a special event at the BFI in London on Saturday where they are screening some of the newly remastered episodes and I think some of the original cast will be there.
When I was a little kid and heard "Purple People Eater", the face which came to mind was Hugh Beaumont, aka Ward Cleaver from "Leave It To Beaver" LOL.
Always looking forward to your uploads at Saturday-Evenings, Perifractics :) "Dark Star" is a fantastic Sci-Fi movie. I really liked tha talking bomb and the horrifiying (B-)Alien. The Elevator-Scene was genius too.
Perifractic ... Blakes 7 had four seasons/series. They are releasing the first series first before the others. Blake was only in the two first series as Gareth Thomas left to do other things. He made a return at the end of series three which they thought would be the last season. The Liberator was destroyed at he end of series three. The group got another ship in series four, less elegant and went on a search for Blake. They found him at the end of season four when almost all the cast were killed in a shootout. (spoliers) Another great show guys. Where would we be without you both, and Harleyfractic of course.
@@RetroRecipes Memory lapses get to us all as we age. I find many of my memories are altered and merge similar memories together in my head. A sort of memory compression method my brain uses to free up more space I should think. That's why your shows are so darn good. Refreshing memories I have lost and forming new ones too. Thanks to both of you.
Perry, I think "missing the 80s" hits you much harder than many of us... I know it does not "really" make sense, if all taken into account, eg: new technology, increased medical knowledge, etc, and who knows: maybe we simply remember it via "rose tinted-glasses"... but the last couple of days, I miss the 80s more than ever I think one of the reasons I mostly by-pass my own drawer of yesterday, "the past", which includes one of those instant poloroid cameras, etc, is the reminder of time lost and past.
In the TV series Blakes7 the computer called 'Slave' as a prop had an Acorn System One (A single board 6502 computer with 1kb RAM, as it's front panel.
I look forward to this time of the month so much (got a bit delayed getting to it this time though). Thanks so much for making the show. Still love it to bits. Would happily watch more of the faxes haha actually almost feel a bit sad there are so few featured.
Most people don't know that Dark Star was the original inspiration for Alien. It's is one of my favorites, and I had it on VHS & DVD (Still have this version). Now there are dozens of places to stream it for free.
For a microsecond I thought this episode would be about Tron Guy or someone wanting to be Tron Guy. That Blakes 7 updated FX Blu Ray I believe you can play it with or without the new FX, however, I think it's for Season 1 only, the other seasons haven't been touched up.
We had a Blockbuster in Tottenham Hale, London, it closed down and then became Maplin then that closed down too, weird, the shop never had much luck... :)
Great show. Ahhh yes loved Blakes 7 and that ship loved that too think was the Liberator. But back in the 80's thats what we had lol. And video i remember was Death Race 2000. 😂😆😄
Alot of cool content and Joking Recipes, i was impressed by that Boombox Design, PyDPainter for the Amiga, and that golf game kinda reminded me of Zany Golf on the Amiga that i used to play.
Dr Star was also co directed and written with Dan O'Bannon who went on to create Alien. DS was initially created as a student movie, but exceeded the 20 minute max length to do be considered for that, and was too short to be a movie for theatrical release, so had some scenes added to make it long enough to be a feature film that went into theatres. It was also the movie that the UKs red Dwarf was loosely based on. The other JC film you may have been thinking of might have been his 1982 version of The Thing.
42 is supposed to be the answer to everything. Well, I don't know, but in this case, 42 is the answer to how to spend 24 minutes enjoying retro entertainment... So thank you! And at the 18:25 mark.... Did Lady Fractic say what I think she sh-aid?!
Your jokes add to your already awesome videos, I say that without irony. Please keep it up, both of you. I see your channel as one of my safe, cozy havens. Thank you! ❤️🙏🏽😊
Orac wasn't handheld! He looked like a fish tank with a load of Christmas lights inside. More than one series too! Although progressively bad, Blake left after S2.. :(
@@RetroRecipes You remember that very episode obviously. That or you remembered the key that they kept in their pockets which activated Orac. It looked a little like a doorbell.
My partner is in hospital with Pneumonia and has been in hospital for 6 weeks now, I hope she live though it... :) it so lonely here with out her on my own so I am glad you make videos to make me forget for a while, Thanks... :)
How is this channel not in the million subs zone yet.... I watch loads of retro related channels, but this one sits easily in my top 3 favourite (along with lgr and 8bit guy). But between these three, all the effort put into RR videos is beyond competition
It occurs to me now they've got Blake's 7 out on Blu-ray, there maybe a chance of the long awaited remake or continuation being made, which would mean they would be on the look out for someone to play Servalan, a character known for her authority and short black hair...
Blakes 7, Sapphire and Steel amd ofc Buck Rogers in the 25th Century 3 of my fav golden age tv shows back in the day and that endding on Blakes7. Oh so many dad jokes i feel sorry for poor LadyFractic 🤣😂. Video shop every Friday night get a movie get pizza and we would all head to my friends house play Street Fighter 2 on the MegaDrive eat pizza and watch a movie before we all headed home man they was the days. Great show as always guys and am looking forward to seeing what you bring us next, so until next time have a great weekend and take care 🙂
Glad you survived the HOT fall fashion lineup! I think you did get a bit of drain bamage with all the tongue twisters followed by all those puns... btw Ladyfractic was laughing at you in disgust, not with you being punny! I felt if she could facepalm herself without embarrassment she probably would have :D Carry on... Don't press the eject button!
I'd rather people weren't nostalgic about Blockbuster, specifically. They were the giant faceless corporation that crushed competition. I wish people were nostalgic about family owned and independent VHS rental stores, which were far more numerous and had much more interesting selections. I think a lot of "Blockbuster nostalgia" isn't about Blockbuster at all, but is about VHS rental places in general, which have had the big bully of Blockbuster's name retroactively stamped on them instead.
Hey Perifractic, was just wondering what that little pixel art display is that had all the Nintendo controllers and I think I saw an X wing also on it.
OMG, Really!? Dark Star? I enjoyed torturing my friends with that stupid... I meant great movie. I have a copy on hand just in case when you want your guests to leave but don't know how to say it yourself. The actor that played the character Sergeant Pinback (Dan O'Bannon) was in an interview and said, paraphrasing, "To be clear... It was intended to be a comedy" as he further described the poor reception to the movie and the people left the show early and/or was confused. It's such an obscure reference to hear you mention it, well, I thought the whole "Elevator" scene was just about the most hilarious thing I ever saw... oh well, I guess it's what it is. So did they update the last episode of Blake's 7 as well... or do they have a bonus documentary hint to what the heck we just saw? So I liked the series when they aired it on PBS and got all invested in the story to then be "surprised" by the last episode and I'm sure they intended it to continue on, but it got cancelled.
I feel really dense and clueless, because I don't know who the guy is who stands up from behind the couch in the last second or two of this video (after the credits). Who is that?
Hey my cousin was 'Tarrant' in Blake 7 - ' Steven Pacey ' then he filmed in 'Humans ' and got killed by a ' Hooker female Robot' xxxx love your site ....... uk viewer ... darrall vernon , xx
Blake's 7 had 4 series (seasons ) we've had the blu ray out for about a month in UK. I always thought it was a good show used to watch it with my dad growing up.
I knew before you even said it that it would be Ferris... I recently watched the series (was difficult to find) it is decent; not great, not terrible. Average mindless sitcom.
