It's been two years since we first showcased the bike seat clamp hack from Mario. They allow you to make quick release conduit connections. We finally have these clamps available on the website so today we talk about them and see how strong they are. Check out the link below for more info. Thanks for watching and be sure to subscribe for more videos and weekly ideas!

Wow, guys, great to see my original hack, reintroduced. I did all the tests you show in this video when I posted the Quick Release hack. Holding power depends on how tight you are able to turn the release handle. Also in my application it worked even better with my other hack which I also posted at MP and on you tube. The modified tube end to retain the bolt more secured and more permanent.

Thanks for sharing the idea! Your clamp tube idea is really awesome too. One day I will have to give that a try myself. Have you gotten the bike seat clamps in the mail yet?

@@MakerPipe I was not expecting them that quick, but will check my mail box and get back to you. Thank you.

Glad to have that bike clamp as part of your inventory now. And as always, the strength tests you guys make for your products are SUPER HELPFUL! Keep up the awesome work guys!

@@MarioIArguellohi Mario. I just subscribed to your channel. I haven’t watched any of your videos yet, but they look really interesting. I’ll have time to check some out over the weekend. Take care!

On your rotational test, you might want to draw a few lines on the ends to see if it rotated the entire pipe or just the connection in the middle. It is hard for me to be sure but it looked like the the whole pipe rotated
@MakerPipe
@MakerPipe Год назад
Yeah that’s a good idea. I’ll have to go back and look at the footage again and see if I can tell
@whoobitt

@@MakerPipe Yeah it might be a better clamp than you think.

We’re also updating the design to make them even stronger

Agreed. There’s a couple of lighter smudges on the support pipe that appear to have rotated. I’m looking at 4:33 and 4:52

Rotational slippage is one issue, but this seems to tighten better than the regular bolts in the first test, where the poles want to slide out, which is my biggest issue. When making the structure I use for the holiday letters for our downtown holiday festival, I also needed to move to 5' sections, rather than 10' sections, to keep it from blowing over in the wind. While it's more work to assemble, it's also easier to store the other days of the year. This "hack" would be great, but way out of my budget.

The regular nut and bolt are going to be much stronger as this clamp doesn’t close the gap nearly as much as the normal hardware. Is it slipping out once the structure is free standing or as it’s moved around?

Really exciting tool. I was considering making my own like this but I like yours better. Ha. Just a note about your weight testing though... A 1/8th turn of the nut would change its grip by probably 100lbs. I don't think your test is super scientific unless you can standardize how many threads deep it is when you clamp it (which is not realistic). BUT I think if people know that they need to test it themself and get a feel for it, your ballpark weight estimation is probably accurate. I mean, we sit our 250lb butts on bike seats. This is a great development! Keep'm coming!
@MakerPipe
@MakerPipe Год назад
Yes, it's definitely not very scientific. It was meant to give more of a rough idea as you said. There will be a lot of variables in real world applications like the length and angle of the pipe etc. etc. Thanks for the comment!

Would have been nice if you compared this to cranking the nut manually.
@MakerPipe
@MakerPipe Год назад
Yes, you're right. I would've liked to as well but the normal hardware is going to be much stronger and would require more testing than this setup would accommodate. We're hoping to do some extensive connector testing in the future and share the results. Thanks for the comment and feedback.

To test the pull out strength of the T-Connector, you might consider using the same technique that you guys used in the video to test the pull out strength of flanges (link to that previous video you guys made: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HGBFEwle13I.html)

Hi Jai, thanks for the comment. I thought about doing that, but honestly didn't expect these quick clamps to hold as much weight as they did so I figured this small scale test would be fine. In the future we will probably use the same test as before to get a failure weight.

Awwwwwwwwww! That's so sweet of you to think of us and our buying needs. What's your profit margin for us ordering from you and you turning around and reordering from an actual vendor?
@MakerPipe
@MakerPipe Год назад
Yes Brian, we are a business and businesses usually need to make money on the things that they sell. Does that mean we shouldn't offer solutions that people ask for? As I said in the video, you can find seat clamps on Amazon and other places pretty easily. If you spent any time looking at the pricing of them elsewhere you will see that we have ours listed cheaper. We try to carry accessories like this so builders can get connectors and things all from one website. If you don't want to buy them from us you don't have to. Thanks for the comment
