If the average bullet travels 2,500 feet per second, watching both this fish and bullet in slow motion the fish bite cycle would last about the same time as the bullet traveling 0.415 feet, or 4.98 inches (this fish could basically bite a bullet.)

@@moealsharif13 That's not how slow motion works. Slow motion can capture faster things than bullets. It's probably that the diver or whatever didn't have a high speed camera. You can't do slow motion retroactively if the frames don't exist to show.

If video is shot at 30 frames per sec, each frame = 1/30th of a sec...mouth of fish does its thing in 1/6000th of a sec = 20x as fast. Fast motion cameras can capture hundreds of thousands of frames/sec., so this fish could easily be filmed.

It was just a slowed framerate. Clearly, it wasn't filmed with a camera designed to film in slow motion. If something is filmed at 30 fps, and this happens in 1/6000 of a second, then the camera is 200x slower than the action. You can't show what wasn't filmed to begin with.

It wasn't a slow motion camera though. If cameras can capture high speed bullets and other things at such speeds, then they could capture this. If you use a regular camera, the frames simply don't exist to show something this fast. 1/6000 of a second is about 20x faster than a regular camera.

I don't think you'd see it even if you watched frame by frame because only a very high speed camera would have a high enough frame rate to capture it.

You never will. It all depends on how many frames per second the camera can record. Slowing playback speed will only show you the same frames, just for a longer duration.

It's not an either/or situation now, is it? Your question sort of implies we have to do one before the other when, in fact, we could do both. With the existence of water pressure, it is undoubtedly way easier to send people to space than down to the seafloor. But that's not saying we are doing nothing at all with the ocean, we have machines, robots, and technologies that are constantly probing around and looking into the ocean.
