I selected a setting for the TR1 randomizer called "randomized options." This gives you a warning when you try to select it, as seen in the thumbnail. It's a bit hard to explain but basically this setting selects various options in the randomizer menu to create outcomes that can range from easy to impossible. For instance, on my first attempt it gave me the same few enemies throughout the game, including skater boy and the cowboy. This seed also gave me no weapons, apart from pistols and magnums, and magnum ammo was quite sparse. In contrast, certain things were not randomized, such as the textures and key item spawns, meaning I had to play the levels dev intended. On the second attempt the levels were in order but I lost my weapons at the start of every level, the enemies were hard, and Lara had no air meter while swimming. On the third attempt I was permanently invisible. Finally skater boy was gone but that didn't help.
At the start of this video I am on level five of my first attempt. I made a highlight video of the first half but did not included it here as it is relatively uneventful.
